I own the Tempest Legacy cab. I pre-ordered the Centipede cab. What got me more pumped up was hoping they make a dedicated Missle Command cab. Looking at monitor and seeing Missle Command cab on screen.

Awesome video Michael ! Very good and fair . I played more today ! I love breakout with the leaderboards and again Missile command with the 3 button layout on the left is so good and all the other games. No one on the leaderboard ! Easy to be number one ! Lol . I’m super happy with this cab. I felt like a kid again last night being first to get it ! Christmas 🎄 came early ! I’m super glad I did not let the monitor issue detract me from buying this cab . Some may be bothered and that’s Fair, but I’ll be having fun. Just looking at it is amazing and similar to how blown away I was with the Tron cab look.

I’m loving this cab !!! It’s really good overall ! Just enjoying it ! Missile command plays so well. Looks so good , so many great games , tons of leaderboards , volcano buttons. Fantastic looking with a top notch marquee, coin door , waterfall deck …..the monitor could be better but it really doesn’t bother me personally ! Too many cool things about this cab to let the monitor bother me. Have fun people !

Is Centipede actually taller? I heard they just cut the sides differently, but it all equals the same 58" as the previous legacy cabinets? Can anyone confirm that it is actually several inches taller like people were hoping from the same "type" of lower cab design of like Big Blue used?

The centipede screen didn't seem to be stretched, though he didn't comment on that. That was another big concern. I ordered mine last week. Hoping it arrives soon.

The monitor on Tempest is so much better, no comparison. But, even so, I would still get this cabinet if they had just put a vertical screen in it. I would even take a compromise. As in a dip switch setting that allows you to play Centipede, Millipede, and Tempest vertically with digital bezels. This is a no brainer. Having those 3 games play correctly on that... would make it a fine addition to place right next to the Tempest cabinet.

I really like what Arcade 1Up is doing today. The monitor is not too bad. I think you're going to have some people ok with the monitor and you're going have people not ok. If I was going to purchase from Arcade 1Up I would steer towards the XL or PRO line because I'm not a fan of the riser. But the price of the Legacy is cheaper and for a lot of people that maybe fine. thanks for the preview and getting the information out. i will be getting it mainly for the leaderboards. i am also going to try to replace the trackball and spinner with Glens. we'll see how that turns out. i don't care about details like the colors of things, or the screen type or ratio. if i can play the game, thats good enough. i can honestly say, if there any other centipede experts, i would love to hear from them. the max score is 999,999 (unless they fixed the leaderboard to go higher). so thats what i'm shooting for. i hope phillychick gets it for tempest, so we can see the high scores for that, i'm good at some other atari games, but not great. later -1

Unbelievable that A1UP went BACKWARDS and delivered these with TN monitors instead of BOE monitors!!!!! It was one thing to have the marquee game...a Vertical Game...being played on a Horizontal Monitor...BUT...it's totally unacceptible that 4 years after the 2018 release of Cabs and the TN Monitors that they went back - they blew it with this cab!!!!

My contention with the monitor is the fact it is a horizontal screen on a Centipede cab when the majority of the games should be played vertically. They squished the aspect ratio which is a crime.

That looks awesome, and comes with quite a decent mix of games. The art and the marquee really look good! I hope it gets imported over here, they have recently launched the Terminator 2 cab, so the range over here is improving. Just picked up two new real cabs (one Nintendo original and a generic) though, so not quite ready to buy another cab yet so lets see if it gets support over here.

I love the look of this cabinet…planned on getting it as soon as it was announced. Having the old 12 in 1, I realized the monitor orientation didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would…normally I’d want the orientation based on the cab artwork…but playing many of the games on the machine, it does make sense to have it positioned based on whichever orientation would be used more. That being said, the monitor is making me question purchasing it… #monitorgate Why can’t Arcade1up just make a cabinet right? It’s always something.

By the way, Centipede is NOT a horizontal game. It's vertical (portrait mode). The monitor should've been a portrait mode, like the wave one. Also, I think I got very lucky with my wave one Centipede. It's monitor looked a lot like a BOE, in terms of contrast, unlike my wave one Galaga, and Pac-Man.

Based on when I played it yesterday I would say the contrast was lower than my gen 1 Centipede (like you my gen 1 Centipede is really good and I was lucky) but better than gen 1 Pac-Man. It’s hard to be precise when you don’t have all of them side by side but that’s my observation

@@carll8596 Indeed. My wave 1 Galaga, Pacman, and Rampage, all have gray, washed out NP displays. My wave 1 Space Invaders 40th, Centipede, Mortal Kombat II, Streetfighter II, Final Fight, and Golden Tee, as well as the afore mentioned all have correct contrast, and decent black.

I'm with you, 12 in 1 Artwork is great especially when you replace the kick panel, and matching riser. The black Centipede is the best, with Astroids artwork it's awesome. I've upgraded spinner, and trackball. Lighted marquee is next. The problem i have is the bloody leader boards, resetting with any game change.

Thanks for sharing this Michael. Personally, I'm sticking with my Tempest cab. I think the issue I'd have with this is that so many games have a plain black background that it's so easy to see that the black levels just aren't as good as on the other monitors. I might feel different about the MK cab because most of those games are more colorful. Hoping that one looks a little better.

Thanks for bringing this information to us so fast. I was planning to get this cabinet but A1UP changed too many things from the original design that now I am on the fence. Primarily removing the white spinner for the left over black spinners and screen washing out at angles or for taller people. Wrong screen orientation, etc. All the small things add up and it doesn't matter how pretty the side art is at this price if it isn't fun to stand at and play. I know people say we are "lucky" at this price point but it feels seriously overpriced when we look at the entire package. Very cool seeing a video the moment it started shipping though, really appreciate Peter and Carl helping you get this video out.

The screen/monitor does NOT look good. You have to look at it from straight in front or it will look blue and with too bright washed out graphics. I know as I bought it. I bought it as it looked really nice on the outside looks, but this issue is too big to overlook.

The cabinet is beautiful. But if you cannot get the monitor aspect ratio right, you really messed up. I mean I don't expect perfection for the monitor. But goodness we need a monitor that was rotated correctly and have the correct ratio of the original game. This is a no go for me :-(

The monitor's bezel art is incorrect, and that TN monitor has GOT to go! It's atrocious to look at. I would much rather have paid an extra 50, to 100 bucks for a proper BOE monitor. Guess I'll be modding this cabinet, after all. An entire bezel will have to be made, and proper graphic printed. Guess I can get an old Centipede bezel from a wave one cab, and put in a portrait monitor. At least that would be closer to accurate. I really wish A1up would quit mixing formats, and slipping cheap grade stuff on us. But, yeah, the rest of the cabinet looks good, otherwise. Thanks for sharing this.

Actually the bezel art is correct - It is wrong on the New Wave’s Toy’s version, if that’s what you are comparing it to. I own the original machine. The 1up version and my “real” one have the same bezel artwork. Now, there could have had a variety of bezel artwork on the original cabs back in the day…I totally agree with you on everything else tho. You are so right in that the small errors add up.

@@farmerstephen6080 Nope. I compared the incorrect bezel art on the Arcade1up Centipede Legacy to actual coin operated Centipede arcade machines. Look again. Arcade 1up moved the instruction section from the bottom of the bezel, to the top, and shifted the monitor down. This is incorrect.

I just finished building this cabinet. I'm disgusted, and down right angry that A1up decided to slip us a garbage monitor from the gen 1 fiasco. I've told them as much, and were it not for the many hours it took to assemble, I'd send the whole thing back. I'm outraged over the washed out, gray quality of this monitor. This is something you'd expect on a mid 1980s early colour LCD display. It's awful. I'm literally going to just have to gut the monitor, and put in a retropi, and a real monitor, I guess. It's really not playable for more than a minute before the gray screen starts hurting the eyes. It's that bad. But, on the positive side, the trackball, and spinner in this cab are the best I've seen A1up provide, thus far. The spinner provides at least 6 seconds of spin time. The trackball actually behaves more like a true arcade trackball, in that it freewheels more like the real one. The cabinet is quite rugged, and definitely taller than the other Arcade1ups in the room, except for Star Wars, and the ALU. Such a beautiful cabinet to have such an horrific display. ...Sigh

I mostly turn on all my Arcade 1ups and leave them in attract mode. I enjoy them turned on as I walk around and look at them from a distance. This washed out screen will NOT EVER sit well with me. I will not have any of these washed out screen cabs again as it doesn’t fit my style. the cab itself looks beautiful though. Marquee looks impressive. The screen is just bad. No buy!

This is honestly worse than Golden Tee when it comes to the new monitors because at least Golden Tee isn't primarily black backgrounds. The black background looks blue from barely right of the cabinet. Awful considering the rest of the artwork as you said is phenomenal on this cabinet.

Arcade 1up what a joke. That screen looks awful. It looks blue where it should be black, the image is squashed and has a smoothing filter. None of those things should be on that cabinet. Not sure why they keep getting a pass for this stuff.

TN screens tend to have better response time despite having crappy color... TBH no lcd style screen will ever feel 100% like a true CRT arcade cabinet especially on games with vector-based graphics
