Nice technical breakdown of even the chip set! I don't know much about optimizing hard ware but sounds like your impression is that many of the drawbacks for the screen or maybe the accelerometer could be have been fixed in the software. Hope A1up considers updating these in their next gen pins or possibly a future patch
@Restalgia3 жыл бұрын
They can likely optimize the accelerometer for sure with software, but the screen will only ever get a partial fix inside the Zen software. To make the screen contrast improve, you'd need to adjust the settings of the monitor itself, and I don't know if that's doable through the board. In fact I'd say it's unlikely 😞

Restalgia, Wow! I really like a critical review when there are critical points to be made, and you nailed it! One of the best reviews of an Arcade1up product and you pull no punches. I think you summed it up nicely when you called it "good enough." That's how I've felt about most of my Arcade1up products, "just good enough." I'd love their products to be great, I think we all would, and I only own one of their products that I think they got completely right, and that was their Star Wars Arcade machine. Out of the 7 Arcade1up products I own, it was the only one I had a flawless experience with, including no "scratch n' dent" aesthetics out of the box. They had to nail that one for me, because it's my all-time favorite Arcade game. If they screwed that one up, we wouldn't be having this conversation now, as I would've given up on them. Thank you for providing real-talk on Arcade1up pinball. Have a great one! vgv

Thanks for sharing this review. I really wanted to get these tables, but I think I'm going to have to pass, unless I can find a way to fit a page magnifier in front of the tiny DMD, as the 1/4 scale displays are just not acceptable, in a 3/4 scale cabinet. They just look wrong, and wonky, to say nothing for being too small for me to see that DMD. I'm forced to spend a little more, building my own machines, from Recroom Masters, and Gameroom Solutions. I would like to see gameplay video, at some point.

The nudge is a huge disappointment and the lack of feel in the accelerometers is also. I was excited about these tables as I thought Zen's involvement was going to bring real pinball feel and optimization. Not so much. Still fun but not what I expected.
@misterchip19843 жыл бұрын
I wonder where the accelerometer is located. Is it on the board itself? I know they should have dealt with this before shipping the product - but I'm wondering what we can do to improve it on our own... we need @restalgia to figure this out - and then send a bill for time / labor to A1UP!
@avis51143 жыл бұрын
Do you feel the screen is salvageable? I was going to mod mine with a PC and use one of the LVDS-to-HDMI converter boards which actually includes picture quality controls such as brightness and contrast. Also added bonus is the DMD is actually full screen HDMI, although for some reason A1U decided not to give you the option to use the whole size. Still, good for modders!
@Restalgia3 жыл бұрын
Yes 100 percent I wouldn't swap the screen. It's a full 1080 display that can do 60 fps. With the video converter board you can substantially improve the screen. Keep in mind it's not the best screen, but it's def good enough.

Curious if you tried messing around with the position of the accelerometer. Maybe closer to the front or up on pegs. On the ALP machine it looks like they placed theirs horizontally on one of the side panels. Don't know if changing the orientation would mess it up though since it's calibrated being flat.

I tend to agree with you. There are ALOT of issues with this machine. Almost all are a result of lazy design/development. That being said, someone who's not super into pinball, will 100 percent pick this up, play it and this is totally fine out of the box. For anyone else, there are much better options in the market

Oh yeah, quality control on these is terrible. The DMD looks awfully scaled, and the nudge/tilt doesn't work AT ALL on my machine. We have tipped it and bashed it as hard as we can without breaking it and it still won't move the ball.

Solinoid dead after 4 hours of play, this is such a piece of garbage. If anyone has a detailed step by step teardown please let me know, arcade1up has been no help.

1. Remove the 2 screws on each side of the lock down bar and remove. 2. Remove the remaining 2 screws in each of the side rails and remove. 3. Remove apron and set aside 4. Remove plexiglass and wooden riser above moniter 5. Remove 4 screws holding moniter panel down 6. Lift miniter and lock in place. 7. You have access to all solenoids now. They are mounted with just 2 screws holding the housing to the device. Remove those and you have access to whatever needs replacing

A thousand bucks Canadian has never converted to $599.00 US, so I can't understand why you're basing the review on that price point. None of the 1Up's are worth anything over $550 Canadian. They've artificially jacked their prices because of Covid and it's eff'ing shameful, especially given the washed out screen and jagged line quality on this machine. Sadly, I doubt they'll drop their pricing once lumber does go back to norma... not that they use lumber or anything.
