Responses from Game Room Solutions on product issues:
#1 They're going to replace any damaged boards with new ones (free of charge) - ALL GOOD
#2 The rear door just needs some adjusting and they provided me with the fix - ALL GOOD
#3 Riser Update: One is in development and is currently undergoing testing. I saw the preliminary pictures and it looks like it will be a nice complement to the cabinet. It will also be pre-routed for T-molding so that's pretty cool!
#4 I have not received feedback on my monitor problem. In their defense, this might be something I did wrong - awaiting a response from GRS.

I built my own cab from scratch several years back to run MAME. These look really nice. I have a tip I learned when I built mine. Don’t use glass cleaner on plexi glass. It will discolor the plastic over time. Use plastic cleaner which you can get at NAPA or Auto Zone.

I have this cabinet, it’s sweet. For those mentioning the Widescreen monitor, I use a pi image that includes custom bezels so it plays all the games play in 4:3 and are perfect! Other than that this cabinet is sturdy, easier access to the back with the door to adjust anything it to get to your Pi, I’ve modded several 1up cabinets and you have to unscrew several screws to get access to the Pi in the back.

From one who has done both an Arcade1UP and a GRS Level Up like Retro Ralph, each one has their own advantages and disadvantages depending on what you are trying to do. From my experience, the issue that happens with the 1UP's is that at first it starts with a very inexpensive purchase, but then as you start getting involved in the modding process, it tends to become addictive. One goes from joysticks, to Raspberry Pi, to bigger screen, to better speakers, to new artwork, to changing from PI to PC. It keeps going and going and going and all of the mods needing to be done need more tools and more tools and more time and more money. When you put all of the cost together, your time spent, and all financials on parts, the inexpensive purchase you were so frugal about just turned quite expensive. There's drilling and cuts, as well as forth thinking that need to be done, but one tends to deal with it as the rewards are pretty cool and you tend to loose track of how much you are spending. If you are playing with adults often, after some time, you have a sense of dissatisfaction being shoulder to shoulder constantly and wish the cabinet was a little wider because you enjoy the gameplay, look, and performance since you put the time and effort. This is where the GRS Level Up comes into play. It is pretty much designed for a custom experience. The artwork that Retro Ralph has is not something that Ryan provided as Ryan does not make artwork for the kit. He only provides the artwork that others build, so if the artwork was done pretty inadequately and stretched, then that's what you get as the design is for you to do your own artwork. As far as putting it together, yes it is more work than an Arcade1UP, in the assembly. On the other hand, other things are rather easy compared to modding an Arcade1UP, such as the control Panel. On a 1UP there is the dissembling process, new holes having to be drilled, and if you want to go with Suzo Happ controls on a Marvel or SF2 cabinet, there is more modding with the joysticks, where on a Level Up, it is Plug and Plug. So when all is set and done, it could be a wash or possibly cheaper depending on what you are wanting to do. I will say that I, like Retro Ralph, have had QA issues with the cabinet like the chips in the melamine, and it is inconvenient to have to wait for replacements and such, but the ending result is quite rewarding. For myself, since moving from a 1UP to a GRS Level Up, it has been a much better experience for me and all issues that I used to have on the 1UP such as spacing and sound, have been remedied on the GRS Level Up. I agree that it is not for everyone, but if you are one who is thinking about getting a 1UP to mod all the way like I described, perhaps the GRS may be a better experience. I wish that I would have known that this cabinet kit existed before I got the 1UP as in my case it is what I should have gotten from the beginning. Below is a link to my GRS Level Up cabinet with my own custom artwork, that I go over in great detail, including all parts and artwork available for download for anyone that is interested. You will see that when done appropriately, it is quite a treat. You are more than welcome to hit me up with any question you have on this kit. Just my 2 cents. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5yZY3V4er2Hos0

The quality of the build is fantastic. However, I just can’t believe the blatant disregard for aspect ratio going on here. lol. I mean, the marquee is squashed, the bezel art is squashed, and I cannot fathom why they used a 16:9 screen because all the games are also squashed. I thought it was really surreal that there was no mention of this. I kept waiting for all this to be addressed. Did I miss it? May have. It’s just so bizarre and blatant how squashed literally everything on the front of this cabinet is including the game it’s self. 😂🤷‍♂️

@jpcrafton69

The emulation software can control the aspect ratio of the game itself. You can set it to 4:3 if you like, and even add scanlines if that's to your taste. If you choose to use 4:3 (or 3:4 for "upright" games), you'll obviously have borders. Most emulators give you the option of having in-emulator bezels which actually fit the game. Would it be more "correct" to use an old 4:3 monitor? You bet! At least, it would for most older games. That said, the vast majority of new screens are, in fact, 16:9 instead of 4:3. Because of that, most modern arcade cabinets - especially those expected to be used with emulators - will have a 16:9 cutout, mount, and bezel.
@underourrock
@underourrock 4 жыл бұрын
@@jpcrafton69 Yeah, I would gladly have a widescreen with side marquee borders because if I play games that are widescreen capable, t would be nice to have the full screen for that. (I'm thinking if I get a cabinet, one of the first things I'd do is set it up with a RetroPie.)

I would have to say, awesome! Only thing is fully done up with a pi your sitting at 800 bucks add the 22 inch screen 900, we are talking 2 fully decked out raspberry pi 1up arcade mods for that price, not one but two! So this is for serious people that want the hardcore personal graphics if you ask me. Can be done on a much cheaper scale.

I just bought one of these level up cabs about a week ago, I was hesitant because I kept comparing the price of that of the Arcade one up, but after watching your video I know I made the right decision. People in the comments are right about it being pricey, but I think the ease of access to the controls, the back, and the sturdier materials and buttons are worth it. To those that say that you could have a full size for this price, you're right. I have a full size and it's great, the issue is that it sits in my garage because I can't get it into my house. This 3/4 size is perfect for a gameroom that doesn't have that much space left, and for keeping the wife happy. Thanks for the awesome review man! I'll be coming back when I need to build mine ;)

It has both terminal connectors and a 20 pin harness connector for easy wiring. For more details, just go to focusattack dot com, and perform a search. The UFB is the top choice for custom fight sticks.

Interesting. Though the build quality is better, I think you are looking at two very different markets. A1UP makes a product for casual users who just want a Street Fighter Cabinet. No soldering required. Plus, if something is effed up, they just return it to Walmart or wherever. In my opinion, 1UP offers the best value, especially with the new Turtles Arcade machine. 4 player control board and stereo speakers. This can be easily be modded and will suit all your arcade needs.

Folks like us who are handy would have no issues but we still have to spend at least 2 hours to get it assembled. A1U takes 20-45 mins depending on your skills but I would think with all the buttons to wire yourself, total time I’d say is 4 hours. For that reason, I would buy it.

I still prefer the Arcade1Up Cabinets despite all the issues with the Cabinets. The Cabinets look more Arcade Authentic... Other than the Control Board. The GRS Cabinet looks to Robotic or some sort of a Kitchen Cart Storage Cabinet... PS You could always eliminate the screws that hold the Back Panel of the Arcade1Up Cabinet. Just install two pieces of Velcro to the top of the Rear Panel and you never have to worry about removing any screws...

Wow did not know that a Genesis console was inside. Possible to use a Everdrive? If it does work I wonder if you can buy 2 Wreckit arcade and change the monitor orientation on one unit to be vertical, the other stays horizontal and use the Everdrive to install games that fit the vertical or horizontal profile of each arcade?

to increase the holes, you could use a trim router with a small, trim bit from Harbor Freight.

The cost of the game room solutions arcade is to much for what's being offered. You're paying around three to five hundred dollars for a cabinet without a monitor and that's crazy! I do think that the durability and design of the cabinet is better than the 1up cabinet only the high price tag pushes me away. With that being said I really like how thorough you are with your videos and reviews.

WoW 😮 well the cabinet is Awesome and Looks Great 👍 BUT - HOLY HELL - THE 1up cabinets ARE WAAAAAAAAYYYY EASIER TO PUT TOGETHER! Hahahahaha lol 😆 I would NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH ALLL THAT CRAP I WATCHED YA GO THROUGH HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA LOL 😆 SO Awesome Cabinet but I’ll stick with 1up! LoL 😆 Cheers 🍻

That's too bad about the back door, but you could always go down to the big box store and just buy a strip of L shaped aluminum molding and screw it on, to give it a nice finish. Other than that, nice build! I really like the hinged front where the buttons are. Nice feature. I am going to try to make a bar top from scratch, wish me luck!

Sure... this is actually wired for Jamma so you would have to re-wire the cab but you could put a RetroPi in. You would just need to put in a few USB encoders and you would be good to go!

Instead of comparing the 17" vs 22" monitor size during your comparison, I would compare the 17" vs the size of a 4:3 aspect ratio on a 22" screen since most people are not going to want to stretch classic games out to 16:9 / 16:10.

I wonder if you could get a large screen protector film for the plexiglass.... Too many people in my household willing to grind dust across a plastic screen causing scratches when they are trying to "clean" something.... at least with the film if it got too scratched up, I could easily replace it. Maybe even a tempered glass screen protector, that'd be a trip getting one that large.

@RetroRalph

The cable I'm using outputs a RGBS video signal and stereo sound from the Model 2 Genesis. You can find the cable here: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=372582279357&view=all&tid=1081685174024 You will also need this in order to send the video and audio signal to the LCD panel. www.amazon.com/TNP-Converter-Adapter-Upscaler-Connector/dp/B0177DG71S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1551070946&sr=8-3&keywords=scart+to+HDMI Note: I think this is cheaper on NewEgg. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

How much did this Arcade cost you in total? I Love Wreck it Ralph, so much my Wife and I used the Original Soundtrack at our Wedding and Walked down the aisle to "Wreck it Ralph", then walked out to "Arcade Finale". Plus played a bunch of songs to dance to, finishing off the Wedding with "When can I see you again". It was awesome. I really want this Arcade, it's Beautiful.
