I remember this like it was yesterday ! Arcade fire are one of those sea change bands that change everything. I've seen them live 4 times now and each time has been a totally different experience to the last. I, to this day, still don't know what prompted Win to smash that thingy at the end of the song. But I don't care. He made sure I would never forget that performance. Job done Win! Big love to Arcade Fire Marky Ps pop by my vids to see me cover this fine song!! X

Seriously, I had no idea that there was an instrument called a hurdy gurdy until Arcade Fire started using one. They bring music to a whole new level and find a use for every musical instrument out there. Even ones that aren't typically used for rock. To me, it's like they use every instrument except the bagpipes. But with them you never know, maybe they'll add that to their instruments someday too.
@boettin9162 жыл бұрын
Haha bagpipes could be used to fill the same musical space in this song as well as her accordion. The hurdy gurdy is just a string organ basically. Obviously its speculation but I like to imagine that it was chosen specifically as the wheels keep turning sort of symbolism. There is a lot of art put into their performances and I wouldn't put something like this past em.
@alexanderpytko53942 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they’re all talented musicians. When it comes to music, I don’t think there’s anything that this band can’t do!

@purplegirl110294 Yes, he did keep singing, but we just couldn't hear him, and it was for the whole song. My favourite songs on The Suburbs are Sprawl II and Suburban War. Have seen them a few weeks ago here in Berlin, it was a really good concert. Owen Pallet was supporting them and then played the violin with them, which was a very nice bonus (visually more than anything else since it's very hard to hear one violin in all that noise they make).

That makes sense. I have seen them live where his mic was turned off for the duration of "My Body is a Cage" and when the song ended and he was told that, he told the audience something like "We are professionals and if the people who work for us are not then I refuse to play, sorry" and stormed off stage. He came back a few minutes later and the rest of the show was perfect. I'd still like to believe that Jonathan Ross had a part in making him angry. I know I wanted to smash the tv that night.
