There's something about Arcades that makes him a wonderful beginner friendly commander. Usually helping with making the overall price of the deck cheaper thanks to his defender archetype. But you gotta love how his archetype is backed up by the lore behind him. An elder dragon who founded a sprawling city which acted as a bastion to academic study and protects whom ever seeking such a life out.

The thing with Arcades decks on MTGA is that when you go to combat phase, all your walls have power equal to their toughness, which is quite misleading since Arcades says they assign combat damage equal to their toughness. So in some circumstances, you or your opponent could make some silly moves because of that.

Hi Legend, I'm thinking of building some paper commander decks using proxies for some of my family who are completely new to magic. Do you have any suggestions for 2 mana commanders that have clear beginner-friendly themes I can build some decks around? Since I'll use proxies, the cards don't have to be limited to the cardpool on Arena. Thanks for the great content over the years!

To teach new players I would probably seek out some of those old sample decks they used to give out for free. Commander rules would probably add an extra layer of complexity that you don't need to start with. Once they get the hang of basic rules they might already have a color preference that you can use to pick a commander.

Do you think River's Rebuke should be banned from Historic Brawl? It's such a big tempo swing that effectively gives the player who uses it multiple extra turns for only 6 mana which in brawl is basically guaranteed to be gotten to eventually. Yes it is possible to win when your opponent uses it, like LVD even did in one of the games here, but it's also possible to win when your opponent plays a black lotus, doesn't mean it doesn't give an extreme amount of advantage.

It's definitely one of those auto includes like there are in almost every color. So many decks relying on artifact ramp is also what makes it better. Maybe a year ago I felt like nobody respected the card, but now I'm seeing it a lot more. Land based ramp is one of the better ways to mitigate its impact.

Protection prevents targeting and damage, but it doesn’t prevent non-targeted destroy/exile/bounce/tuck effects

Only a few draw cards, Chaplain would be the best one to blink but we're not guaranteed to find it every game.

My modern and comander versions of the deck go hard with jeskai barricade a 0/3 defender with flicker for 1 colorless 1w though my decks lean more aggro and more toughness with ok etbs (wall of runes comes to mind/wall of blossoms)

In hindsight I think you maybe shouldve played gleaming barrier instead of wall of blossoms match 4 as its would've helped your mana and you wouldnt have had to discard. But thats really just retrospective backseat gaming, especially since you did not know rebuke was the next card.

Hey, LVD! The post-production de-essing you do in your more recent videos is a little much imo. It makes your voice sound a little unnatural at times. I get why you do it, some of your 'S' sounds are a little sharp at times, but I think this is a little much. Although maybe I'm hyper-aware because a) I've watched a lot of your content over the years, so I'm just used to the natural, unedited sound of your speaking voice, b) I know what de-essing is and I recognize its usage in your videos, and c) I'm a sucker for languages and am very perceptive about those kind of things. Anyhow, keep up the great work please! Love your channel
