Wow!!! Technology is incredible. I didn’t think it was SO involved.

Could you please go into detail about how each mallet instrument is plugged into the one next to it? How does one set that up? We've got two of those D'Addario stageboxes as well and we have everyone plugging directly into those then running that core cable to the TIO. Thank you for posting this.

We recently put out a video all about daisy chaining which is the method Arcadia uses for their mallet mics. I highly suggest watching that video.

Could you explain how Mainstage is patched into the Yamaha Stagebox? Is there another interface that converts USB->XLR?
@CatherallAudio Жыл бұрын
The Yamaha TF series mixer has a USB type B port on the back that allows you to plug the laptop directly into the mixer and use it as an audio interface.

This walkthrough is extremely well put together! One question, what do you guys do when it rains? Is there a procedure for protecting all of the equipment and connections or do you just forego the PA that day/show?
@CatherallAudio2 жыл бұрын
During the fall if its raining hard enough then we would just go without any of the audio equipment. but if its light inconsistent rain then we will use a lot of blue plastic tarps with bungee ties to strap them down to the speakers and the synth carts to keep them dry.

How does the midi controller turn on and off mics?
@CatherallAudio Жыл бұрын
The MIDI controller changes patches on Mainstage. The mics are connected to audio channels in Mainstage and when we change patches it mutes and unmutes the mics.

hey so I'm a second year at my highschool and I was put onto electronics and synth, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on the gain levels and sound tuning for Marimba's. They have 2 mics and i just think they could sound better in my opinion lol. Thanks

Hey! it is highly dependent on the instruments you're using, along with the size of your full band and front ensemble. But just a few general tips that work best for me. 1. Check how the mics are mounted, you'll want something that can act as a shock absorber to help eliminate the thud sound of the frame shaking. An easy solution is using bungee ties or canopy ties from Home Depot or Lowes 2. Place the mics in the general area that each person plays in most. Typically the parts will be written either in the upper end or lower end of the instrument for marching. Look through the music and then determine the best spots for the two mics. 3. Utilize the EQ on the mixer to help eliminate any of the sounds you don't want. You should start by turning down frequencies rather than boosting frequencies in the EQ settings. A solid Hi-pass of around 100-120Hz is a good starting spot. It can be helpful to do a Lo-pass as well around the 12k+ range. Hopefully this helps!
