I watched the videoclip of "Enemy" before watching the entire series, and I was like awww cute friends, they look so good together. When adult Ekko appeared in Arcane I was like oh, they were childhood friends. Wouldn't be cute if they have a crush too? And then THE STARE happened and I was like I MUST SHIP!! THIS IS A BIG ONE!!! God, I love friends to enemies to lovers trope. I really hope in future seasons at least show some hints, cause I really don't think Ekko x Jinx would be posible. Only if it takes very very angsty, like if Jinx dies in the finale, and Ekko cries for her, like Ray and Kylo Ren kind of stuff.

i mean. this is explicitly in canon a line from him being _incredibly_ unhealthy. this is a bad thing that he says in an incredible low point. its incredibly clear jayce is at the very least someone he cares so much about, immediately after this line; "Jayce will understand." he is abandoning legacy, something he always strived for before his death, and love, something he holds for jayce (canonically, platonically.) because hes dying and hes grasping for straws to save himself, to progress. honestly that line just further spurs me on to thinking theirs a further relationship between them lmao, at least on viktors side. jayce clearly means a lot to him.

I totally believe Powder and Ekko had a mutual crush on each other. It makes sense. They are both roughly the same age. Both very inventive and mechanically inclined. Also it is highly likely that hanging out in Benzos' second hand shop with Ekko, is were Powder learned to differentiate between what's valuable and what isn't and why during the Piltover heist. Vi trusts Powder to look for the good stuff before Mylo fills the bag with junk.

Wow thats a long stretch, im impressed. Its genuinely amazing what someone can interpret out of a clear stare as a plea, and a look of nostalgia and shock. Writing wise, to me that whole scene was a confirmation it was NEVER going to happen. It could literally be signified as the end of the possibilities with that explosion if you want to get technical on a writing symbolic level. And i have an associates in creative writing (shooting for a major in a year or two when the virus calms tf down) I can see how people could like them together. Theyre cute. Writing wise it doesnt jive or square up. And I think that scene is supposed to show the downfall of them. The literal chance of them "blown up". Not to mention, there has been no indications of Powder having any morsel of romantic feelings for the kid. Not even once. Not even a bit. Further more its even a bit non compos mentis and absurd to really entertain the notion when all things considered. Not only do we know jinx canonically will not become any more sane, but why do people forget how quick Ekko was to give up on her? Going so far as to attempting to convince her sister to do so as well? What about the firelights shes killed? His friends... Working for and being the adopted daughter the man that killed his mentor/father figure? Attempting to murder him? A few times actually. If people really feel that way i fear how they think of me and my hetero best guy friend since childhood. Especially since he had a crush on me too at one point. Yikes. Not even being a dick. Just bringing up the obvious. If they get together, its just fan service. Shallow and it knocks the writing down a few notches. I have good faith in Riot at understanding and knowing that as well. Especially with the high level writing they have been using. I can say im fairly confident not only is it never going to happen, but im also fairly confident that crush was very one sided. I also believe (this is a hunch and not backed up by evidence) that the introduction of Zeri is going to be used in Arcane and i fully believe her and Ekko will be far more likely than him and Jinx ever will be. I even partially believe thats why she was released now at all. If you keep up on datamines, there were people in the files before her that have been unreleased. She kind of came out of nowhere shortly before Arcane. Like super shortly. And i legitimately believe she'll be built up with Ekko. As a way to make Ekko fans happy. Food for thought. Not hate.

@@Kyoril actually hes right. Jinx is 4 years older on league of legends official website. Ekko is 17 in game, jinx is 21. Which means in part one where its estimated jinx is around 11-12 Ekko would be around 8. I think they just look the same because Powder has an especially small frame and build, you know?

Yea it’s proven many times that even since she was younger that powder/jinx didn’t respond emotionally to some situations. That she always had mental issues such as when her parents died unlike Vi who was balling on the floor. Powder was teary eyed but really no reaction. She doesn’t do well with high anxiety issues. Either is extremely emotional or emotions less.

Diana and Leona were created together as lovers but when they were released they softly implied that there was a deeper relationship before they hated each other. Now in lore they were officially a romantic couple and Solari propaganda makes them enemies.

Loving yet often separated by their nature and methods of operation(while actually having a bond/relationship that persists anything the other does that they disagree with). Ekko and Jinx still care about each other; everything within and surrounding their fight illustrated it. She willingly joined in the game he wanted them to reenact and was gleeful while doing so. Before that she blew up the enforcers, which some may see as her attacking them out of confusion over Vi and Caitlin's hug. I see it as retaliation for Marcus shooting and presumably from Jinx's perspective killing Ekko. Prior to this Ekko was projecting onto Vi that Powder is gone, yet he wears a mask whenever he interacted with Jinx prior. Which can be symbolic of him hiding his true nature toward her, even with what became of her, when they interact; a.k.a he never believed his own words. He's just manifested this outer shell, that melted when Vi hugged him(similar to Jinx being what protects Powder and that melting away when Vi hugged her). Also have ya ever noticed how whenever Jinx thought about/saw Ekko it wasn't with the associated distorted sketches and manifestations that appear whenever she remembers Mylo, Vander, Claggor or even Vi(during the boxing contraption scene in ep 5 and when she was revived in ep 8). Even with the difference of Jinx being infused with a variation of shimmer. It suggests there's a sort of clarity to her now. She's fully embracing who she is rather than holding onto what she was, just as Silco did and affirmed with his dying breath. Ekko is the only one shown any hint at accepting her, as she is now. Unwillingness to finish what he started in their face-off, just as Silco wouldn't betray her for his life long mission. Since they'll be on the same side of the war; doubtful Ekko suddenly will join PIltovers side, given he only allowed favor to Caitlin due to Vi vouching for her. It seemed more like Ekko will open the mind of Heimerdinger and he'll become apart of Zaun's efforts. Ekko and Jinx will be inclined to team up and likely be a pairing. We've already seen Vi joined up with Caitlin who both had opposing views that helped further shape each toward greater understanding and clearly a romantic relationship. Given the ever present duality. Ekko can be the relationship to Jinx, what Caitlin is for Vi.

@@gimmeyourrights8292 well I never said they're meant to be carbon copies of my example. Ekko is far more sociable, approachable and outgoing than Batman ever is. Jinx is far more sequestered than Catwoman. Though they both present a front around anyone that isn't those they cares for; ex: confronting Sevika and 'Chuck'. And there's been instances where Catwoman definitely harms someone Batman cares about or is in the midst of trying to save. But he is willing to understand the layers to her actions. Just as Ekko could or already has contemplated given his extensive memorization skill.

Varus is TECHNICALLY canonically a gay couple trapped inside a body that is helmed by a cursed Darkin bow... I think? But its never shown because they're essentially just offscreen spirits that have nothing to do with actual Varus the character There is also a dynamic between Graves and Twisted Fate and the writer (who doesn't work at Riot anymore) has come out to confirm that they were meant to be a married couple, but someone at Riot disagreed heavily And thats about all of the mlm gay relationships that LoL has; One that should have been but isnt canon, and one thats technically canon but not actually visible in anything other than the lore

Varus has music video just about gay couple so it is quite visible and shows that Riot isn't afraid with such content - we don't have any lesbian couple in cinematic yet, but we have Valmar and Kay. So it is not only confirmed mlm gay relationship, it even has it's own music video!

I am a huge fan of Jarvik, but I don’t mind having them in a platonic/rival relationship. However, I can’t seem to wrap my head around Mel x Jayce. Keep note, I would’ve accepted this ship even though I like Jayvik. It’s just, the way Mel x Jayce started dating, I didn’t feel any chemistry between them. Hell, they weren’t even friends, Mel acted more like Jayce’s boss/supervisor at the start. So, I was more than surprised when they kissed and did two person push-ups, when their relationship didn’t really have a good foundation. Mel and Jayce are both great characters individually, but together they just feel…eh. But, maybe that’s just me.

I think that was the point. To me it felt like a (slightly) manipulative relationship from the start. Mel was attracted by Jayce's intelligence and physique, and she won Jayce over by guiding his and Viktor's success. She cares about Jayce and she's proven herself compassionate but as a complex character Mel is also manipulative, works to get what she wants and knows she can control Jayce. That was her approach in the beginning until Jayce sought her out to be comforted. She asked why from being genuinely confused as to what Jayce wanted from their relationship and mellows out a bit.

Vi x Caitlyn is canon if you pay attention to Vi and Caitlyn's in-game interactions. Like you can't tell me it isn't. However, Jayce x Viktor probably isn't gonna happen, and if it does, it won't last because: *SPOILER ALERT* TL;DR Jayce and Viktor become enemies later on to the extent that Jayce becomes self-centred, not crediting Viktor for his scientific advancements, Jayce and Viktor clash over how ethical Viktor's research is and Jayce destroys Viktor's lab while Viktor is trying to save the lives of Zaunites which results in their deaths (however their quality of life should they have survived is questionable).

However, Viktor, unlike Singed, doesn't experiment apathetically and truly believes in saving and improving lives, and that doesn't excuse stealing credit, so I'm still on team Viktor.

There is at least one canonically gay ship in LoL lore: Leona and Diana Also when asked why we didn't get a CaitVi kiss, one of the creators replied that they knew very early on that there would be a second season. It most likely didnt happen due to pacing reasons, not because they are afraid of portraying a gay relationship. I believe (and hope) that in season 2 they will take all the gay and RUN with it

I have seen a few comments (not only in this video) of "why do you keep looking for romantic pairings, why are you people so obsessed with ship every f*cking character, Arcane isn't even of that". I like to theorize about this: love and sexual relationships is something that the big majority of people can relate to. It's something beautiful and it feels good to be in love with someone. In series like Arcane, a show with such an cruel and depressing world and story, it's not that weird that many viewers start to looking for some hints of happiness and love. Look at Attack on Titan! The shipping material is savage there, and I think it's for the same reason... idk

The reason to this is because I feel like they're building up the actual lore in league... which if you know the relationship between Viktor and Jayce... then you'll know they won't be friends for much longer. Ngl, there's an AU of post-episode 3 that lives in my head rent-free. That Ekko distracted Silco & co after Silco approached Powder and got her away from the situation. And then she and Ekko find strength in each other and go on to build and lead the Firelights in opposition to Silco, together...She still has her bombs and guns & even the unhinged energy, but it's less trauma-fueled and has more of the "i just love destruction" vibes her game character emits. The big glaring reason that Powder latched on to Silco in that critical moment was because she thought she had been rejected and abandoned to the fate of figuring out life all on her own, for good; all while processing what had just happened and her role in it. Had Ekko been the one there for her in that moment, and they worked through their grief and the downfall of relative peace in the undercity, together...Powder probs would've been Powder, all along. Even Ekko points out to Vi in the show-proper, that Jinx could choose at any time to not deal with her pain by chasing Silco's approval with violence. Until he'd witnessed her kill a whole bunch of his friends and comrades, he was probably willing to be there for her, too. Probably wanting to lean on his old friend as he grieved their mutual loved ones, too.... Man, I just want them to heal and be on the same side again, at least. Such good writing, to make me care so hard... BUT. I know that "Jinx" had to happen. Jinx is a popular champion icon for League so, lol. I can dream in AU land tho.

I'm cool without the Jayce x Viktor, It's really refreshing when all the " main " characters aren't in a relationship 1 and 2 not in a relationship with eachother. Yes, they share common interests, but I just don't see vicktor in love? He knows he's dying so he commits to his studies and that's what makes Viktor, well, Viktor. The determination to change the world. And a relationship of any sort will kind of draw the attention away.

Jayce and Mel's relationship seems a bit of sometimes. They're sexually attracted to eachother, but only Jayce seems to be trying to get some semblance of intimacy and connection between them. Considering Mels past, that might be a bridge to far for her. The opposite side of this is the budding romance between Vi and Caitlyn. Vi has massive walls, harden through losses in her life and the solitary confinement in Stillwater. Caitlyns mere presence makes those walls seem like mist. Her heart, naive in parts, but with a burning desire to aim for justice and protect people tear through them. With her Vi can relax, lowering her guard. Rest a bit. With Vi Caitlyn sees a fellow warrior in the fight for right, albeit unpolished and sometimes a bit rude, behind it all a passionate heart that's ready to fight. Despite all her hardship she hasn't lost herself. Caitlyn, raised in comfort and convenience, must find her quite refreshing. I'm actually quite happy with that they haven't kissed yet. Their relationship is based on intimacy and love, while Jayce and Mels seems to be of physical attraction and mutual benefits. I would like them to take time, to show trust in eachother. To much of so called love stories of today seems to be of young, photogenic people having more sexual urges and physical attraction and so much less about falling for the person and not the steel buns or flowy hair. Can't wait for to see how theirs relationship develops in season 2.

Awesome video! In regard to your question about Gay characters in LoL, the answer is no. The only thing, in the entire history of League of Legends, those 20 plus years, that came close to being considered actual good canon gay rep, is a series of tweets from writer Yichao about queer rep in large IPs, from which he afterward, on a "completely unrelated note", link a story about a Pulsefire Timeline Ezreal and Ekko, to which the usual aholes in the fanbase proceeded to lose their mind about, being so butt-hurt at the mere allusion of gay characters existing (because an allusion it sure was, since without Yichao tweet it would have been another example of queer coding, obvious to queer people but invisible to the straights) that they started to harass those that enoyed the ship and posted art about it. To top it all off, when the crystal rose skin came out, along with Lux x Ezreal ship implications, they started to push that ship everywhere and scream "in your face!" in a completely hypocritical manner, clamoring the "canonicity" of their ship where before they bashed others for liking a "skin relegated ship", all the while playing the part of the victim, acting as if THEY were the minority and the one bullied for "daring" to take a stand against the first gay ship in this game. Also the reason lesbian characters are present while gay one are not is because lesbians are seen as more palatable to mainstream audience and more easy to sell, along with being "inoffensive" and "harmless", in a very condenscending manner no less, which is a whole problem of its own. Some can argue that Varus is also a queer Character but he's not really, he's just an example of the "bury you gays" trope and plausibile deniability since he's his own person and therefore nor a gay Character. Taric gay memes and jokes were born from those stereotypes typical of the time.

I only started shipping JayVik as a joke. My friend is an extreme LoL/Arcane nerd and asked me to tell her about my experience watching it for the first time, sort of like live tweeting. Just to irritate her, I kept on writing missassumptions and interpret things weirdly. One of which was Jayce and Victor having a thing. The thing that always annoys me is how everyone just assumes Powder "doesn't feel the same way" towards Ekko with literally no evidence. I can guarantee that, not only is Ekko's voice line in the game the sole reason why they're shipped by the Arcane fandom in the first place, it's also the reason why the fandom interprets their crush as being unrequited from Jinx's side - considering she doesn't seem to have a unique voice line for him. The thing is, if people are open to suspend their disbelief enough to interpret their scenes together as children as being emblematic of the prospect of there being a crush at all - scenes which are more easily interpreted as them simply being friendly and close to each other -, why would they also simply settle for unrequited love just because "the game said so" ? Like the prospect of them having a crush in Arcane, there is also no concrete evidence (both as children and adults) on this crush being unrequited, besides the game's voice lines being one-sided - and, time and time again, we've seen Arcane grabbing ideas from the game, but then changing them in at least one way or completely turning them on their heads. This is coming from someone who actually ships them - I just hate how limited and unnuanced the fandom's perspective is.

I've noticed this and I can't pinpoint why that's the default state for so many. I have to wonder what those same people will say if we get flashbacks to their past and a romantic interest from her side is presented. There are some people who just dont like the ship and swear jinx was never interested as a way to discredit it without getting any flack but there are others who just accept that as fact without any evidence to back it up and atleast some evidence to oppose it in that at the very least they were close. I really don’t see how “No… not in front of… all of them” is evidence for Jayvik, it’s Viktor not wanting to go out on stage in front of all of those people because he’s nervous. She mimicked his movements and everything before it went down. If the point of that fight is to show ekko grew up while jinx was still the girl of calamity, then that emotional portrayal shows how she felt back then while being more capable of expressing it now. She Def has feelings for him, she just won't let that get in the way of what she wants to do/who she believes she is now, a curse, who's bad for anyone she gets close to, becoming jinx was simply embracing that, and at least as enemies they know not to let their guard down against her allowing her to do actual harm to them.

I doubt you will see much growth in Jinx, relationship wise. People she loves either die or abandon her, so to Jinx love is weakness. Vi has a chance at reaching her but it should take time to re-establish that sisterly connection since Jinx is broken but thinks it's the world and everyone else that's broken. The Vi/Cait relationship will hopefully grow since even the game gives bonuses for pairing them together. Over all this was an excellent origin story for Jinx and the world she lives in and I look forward to spending more time exploring it.

In canon lore in league Varus is a gay character and the only I can think of, he has a music video (Varus - as we fall) and a comic that shows the story of the two warriors lovers that by war became one by the power of a demon bow and form the character that we play in the game. I personally think that in arcane most character (piltover and Zaun) can be gender fluid cause there seems to be no sign of discrimination against sexual preference. And seem to be a place with no gender roles as we see women and men be on the same levels. I think is more a think of abilities and talents kind of society where being smart or physically strong is what determinate your place in society. Also the creators (of arcane, not the game) said that they imagined a place where sexuality was not and issue or a topic of interest.

Ekko and Powder are actually this "One sided love"-Dilemma. You can see it in her reaction. Event when they had their little fight- she just remembered their fun as kids, and had fear in her eyes like shes betrayed from an old friend. But there was no love-thing. Just a really deep bonded-past-long gone-friendship bond. Ekko on the other hand looked and acted different towards her. He was looking after her, mostly fixated on her when they were in a grp. I think he had feelings for her.

Now, I'm very late to this seeing as it was posted a year ago, but I'll give my input in all of this: Jinx and Ekko, sadly, will not be together. I just can't see Ekko letting everything Jinx did go, his sense of righteousness wouldn't allow it. He'd constantly be wondering if/when she'd snap and become a warden rather than a romantic partner in a relationship with her. Jinx on the other hand is too focussed on revenge against the council. Losing her sister for years because of imprisonment, losing Silko (really her only rock after Vander dies) due to her paranoia regarding his possible betrayal with a member of Piltover's council and losing Vi again (in her eyes) to Caitlyn; a "dog" of Piltover. She just wants to cause chaos and hurt right now, so she would not be suitable for any romantic involvement. Do I think the two of them might have had something had everything not gone down the drain? 100%. I think Ekko and Jinx may have grown to like one another as they grew older and built gadgets to help Vi and the others on their raids. I definitely think there was potential and we might even at some point hear Ekko confess how he used to feel about her and possibly have a moment of Jinx reaffirming her own past feelings for him before the two have another huge showdown. It would definitely raise the stakes for the audience. Viktor and Jayce, personally I always saw them as best friends. Viktor strikes me more of an Aromantic and possibly Asexual person. I don't really think they were hinting towards a romantic connection between the two, but rather a really close bond between friends/brothers, who shared the same dreams and appreciation for the expansion and discovery of new and exciting technologies. Now, I haven't played LoL but from my understanding there are many more regions and characters to explore and introduce, so I don't know if season 2 would focus on the current events, we might skip over to a completely new region and begin telling other characters' stories before going back to Piltover and Zaun and seeing how everything is going after Jinx's attack at the end of the first season.

Also, I'm not into League, just Arcane. But I have been watching all the music videos and cinematics cuz they all are gorgeous too. (Seeing Jinx as an anime magical girl in the Burning Bright mv after really only experiencing her base design/personality...was something) Anyway, there is apparently a canon mlm ship (sort of) in League I think???? Represented in one of the MVs. The "As We Fall" music video shows how in-game champion, Varus, is comprised of three minds/souls; two of them are tragic lovers whose struggle to save each other was thwarted by the third entity, a darkin. It's more like a ship-in-limbo tho, since both people are unable to really exist properly (if they're consciousness is even still a thing in Varus' body), so yeah.

People keep clinging onto the line from the game, but the show and game are NOT the same and much of the lore has been changed, there is no indication in the show that Ekko ever had feelings for her, only that they were friends. And now that she’s murdered his friends and family, he has absolutely no reason to give a damn about her and is justified in wanting to kill her. Also zero indication that Jinx likes Ekko, only thing we know is at one point they were friends and played together as kids do. People are projecting their feelings for Jinx onto Ekko and vice versa. Jayvik also makes no sense but fangirls will always ship the most nonsensical and unrealistic ships. Only canon and realistic ships are Mel/Jayce and Vi/Cait. The others are just fangirls wet dreams.
