He felt guilty for what he did, so as an act of "redemption" he "saved" Vi by hiding her from Silco, and saved himself by throwing a criminal behind bars - to at least get credit for getting the job done despite the casualties. 2 birds with one stone. Marcus threw Vi in prison to spare her life. when he captured her in Ep. 3, he said "He'll (Silco) kill you if he sees you". After the death of Sheriff greyson, benzo, and Vander's kidnapping, he at least wanted to atne by sparing one life. Unfortunately, that separated her from Powder. Afterward, Marcus stayed under Silco's thumb because now Silco blackmailed him for the whole deal. I don't like Marcus either, but he is doing all of these things because he can't face the consequences for his actions. When he blows up at Silco for Jinx's explosion in the tent, where he lost 6 officers, he needed to hold someone accountable. Silco protected Jinx by using the firelights as a scapegoat for that attack since they were also seen on the same day on the airship attack, which was also Jinx's fault. Silco is protecting Jinx, like a father would, but he uses underhanded dealings and blackmail to do so.

It really breaks my heart to see Powder and how desperate she was to love and be loved again. All these years thinking she's been abandoned by Violet, suffering the anguish of living in a mental purgatory. She was so close to healing, so close to filling the void.

I love how Jinx is a reflection of Zaun, and vice-versa. This is explicitly exposed in the way that Silco raised Jinx. to be someone strong, that learns and grows stronger from all the shit that happened with you, but he doesn't know how to help her with all her mental problems. And the undercity is the same, Silco made Zaun so much more rich and prosper than when vander was in charge that people from piltover call's him the industrialist, but, the counterpoint is that a lot of people are suffering, because of the results of being someone addicted to shimmer does with you.

In defense of Marcus... It's clear that he respected Greyson and is seeking to follow in her footsteps. For years, she kept the peace with the Undercity by working with Vander. Unfortunately, for Marcus, taking the same approach means working with Silco, who is a completely different kettle of fish with a completely different set of principles from Vander. Realistically, if not for working with Silco, Marcus's only alternative really would be harsher crackdowns on the Undercity. IMO the real failure in leadership here is the Council, who have turned a blind eye to the struggles of the Undercity and who instead view them with suspicion and prejudice.

Why Marcus tossed Vi in jail is so fascinating. Marcus is pretty much everyone most hated...season 1 character. And for good reason, he is probably the closest thing we get to a, "Bad guy". But he does think he is a good guy. He loves his daughter, he respected Greyson for her ability to keep the peace, and he tossed Vi in jail because he thought it was the only way to save her life. He was willing to save Vi, but not quite willing to oppose Silco openly. It wasn't heroic, but the act of a flawed, hotheaded, power-tripping man who genuinely thought he was doing the right thing, eyes clouded by his own self-interest. That's the closest we get to black and white morality here.

The fact that Silco hated Vander for making a deal with the Enforcers then does the same thing as Vander really pisses me off. He thought he was oh so much better a tactician than Vander.

an interesting point but to be fair silco very much had marcus wrapped around his finger and easily manipulated him with threats vs vander having a “mutually beneficial” agreement with the enforcers (imo more beneficial for the enforcers)

Silco's problem is not the deal in itself, but who has the upper hand in it. Vander's deal with grayson has a very obvious advantage to piltover, the undercity stay in its place and if someone shakes the balance the enforcers go down there and beat people until everything is settled. In marcus and silco's case everything happens the way silco wants to happen, not only marcus gives away a lot of information about the council and other secrets of the government, but he also cover up silco and his gang's crimes.

My guess on what happened between Vi, Marcus, and Silco is that after Silco took in Powder he had his ppl search around for Vi because Powder said she left her meaning she was, in fact, alive and walked away and ofc when they couldn't find her I think Marcus would tell Silco he had found her dead due to her injuries from the explosion and the fall and that he disposed of her body when in fact he took her to prison. I honestly think Marcus would be too much of a coward to kill Vi himself so he believed prison would've been the better choice plus since Greyson's death he had taken over her position and run the prison so he could've gotten away with it. Not to mention the time jump is around 7 years I think so even if Silco didn't fully believe Marcus at the time Vi not showing up at all for 7 years would confirm Marcus's story.

It's hard for me to hate characters in this show (except for that one character in Season 2, tho maybe if that character was explored more, it would've made a difference). Marcus made a deal with the devil and now he can't run from it. He has a daughter and even Silco threatened to take her away from him if he showed even more incompetence. I honestly felt so bad when he died in the explosion. You could tell how he was struggling to choose between his conscience or his daughter safety when he was going to shoot Caitlyn. And for his last words to be about his daughter, it really broke me. I assume he's also a single father because of the lack of presentation of the mother in the show, which makes it worse. "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?"

I agree on animation and music, but anybody who thinks Season 2 had better story has a terribly short memory. Act 3 of season 1 is better than the entirety of Season 2 in every way that matters.

​@smileyhappyface5864 Naw, Overall, S1 is better than S2, but not S1A3 by itself! If any act in S1 has a claim of being better than the entirety of S2, if would be A1. It is the setup and draw for the rest of the series. If it wasn't as good as it is, most of us wouldn't even have finished S1, real talk! But, to be clear, I don't believe any single act beats out either season.
