Viktor turning into the Arcane goes along the rest with the season, by putting the social dynamic between Zaun and Piltover into the background and just HEY GUYS LOOK AT ALL THIS MAGIC WE GOT HERE, LOOK AT THIS ARCANE I EVEN MIGHT SAY Viktor pains and healthy problems comes from Zaun and the whole conflict in the first season was born for the class disparity, but the Arcane (the magic) makes every social aspect being resolved quickly to just focus on that. Viktor problems? Are now beautiful imperfections, and not consequences the poor life zaunites live. The final enemy? Mannequins and a prophet POWERED BY THE ARCANE (all the class stuff was resolved thanks to it forever yay)

And this without say how Arcane Viktor is just a mesh of every other mage-voidy in Runeterra, while the "Mechanical" Viktor was unique (even if poorly adressed and develop) Arcane Viktor also has a lot of less autonomy and agency, every achievement (his leg and so on and so forth) and his path to messiah feels always lucky or accidental, while "old" Viktor had a lot more of agency and the fact that he built, installed and then started to go even further on his enchantments felt more powerful Viktor legs feels not like something he has certain and had control and feels more like a desperate gambit

I agree, old viktor is really tied with zaun. As a teen his inventions reduces workplace accidents by a significant amount. It's so amazing university of piltover invites him to be a student. Then when the gas leak accident happens in zaun, he leaves his university and builds blitzcrank to save them. Arcane viktor contribution to zaun seems miniscule (he only helps after hexcore combines with him). And to the people who says old viktor are "old and tropey" yeah ofc he's from 2011 ffs, but so is aatrox, mordekaiser, urgot, warwick, etc. Their job is to make viktor more interesting but still keep his core identity. One thing that I feel people even more glossed over plot wise, Singed using Warwick's blood...juice(?) to somehow resurrect Viktor but also help him ascend to higher plane of existence. Singed made Warwick so he could have a bargaining chip when negotiating with Ambessa. He wasn't aware, at least not fully, of how Viktor could evolve at that point. It feels so far fetched that he would be able to make the killing machine that Warwick is while also having him be the perfect source of regenerative juice that also allows half hexcore'd Viktor to morph into a god.

Singed didn't make Warwick to be a bargaining chip, he specifically made him as an experiment to find a way to bring orianna back from death. That's why Warwick has such a strong healing factor. It's not really far fetched to assume that if Viktor absorbed Warwick's regenerative capabilities and combined them with his arcane abilities he could find a way to "save" orianna.

@@cleo3228 I disagree, Singed got himself captured on purpose in order to have Warwick kill everyone in the prison and show his capabilities. He correctly presumed that someone in power will want to replicate it and he wanted a patron for his research. He later found out about how Viktor is evolving and realized he has better chances of curing his daughter by siding with Viktor. Otherwise, what stopped Singed from going to talk with Viktor before even having Warwick escape. The whole reason why Singed even met with Viktor again is that he was tracking Warwick for Ambessa.

What I was expecting is something similar to you with Viktor abandoning magic (or using it to power his technology, but not to outright fuse with it), then go to Zaun and use his glorious evolution to start actually helping people in there, against Piltover (but not taking away their free will and putting them in a hive mind, while og Viktor did create something that took away free will it was only for a specific purpose). I think Viktor just became, boring... Honestly, after he fused with the Arcane he basically just didn't really have problems, he's completely focused on his objective magically and really doesn't struggle that much. An objective evil that materializes out of nowhere and didn't have enough build up to make literal or narrative sense (i.e. Victors plan to go back in time to set all of these events in motion just so he can stop all these events in motion is stupid). "There's no prize to perfection, just an end to pursuit." - I liked the theme of forgiveness. Piltover has done terrible things to Zaun, and Zaun has done some terrible things to Piltover, but in the end, the only peaceful way to stop the cycle of violence would be to forgive one another. That's the alternate world that Ekko saw, a united Piltover and Zaun. On the other end, if they don't learn to forgive each other, they'll end up with the alternate world that Jayce saw. The Piltover and Zaun class conflict is still ongoing, but they at least took a small step in the peaceful direction. I wouldn't say S1 or S2 is better than the other. On that note: the fact that Camille was never mentioned is a failure in itself. She would have been the perfect villain, truly representing how brutal Pilltover can be. I don't care that it wouldn't've made sense in terms of time-line. Camille is an amazing character and she deserves more attention. And I know that this would have turned the show extremely dark, having both Pilltover and Zaun on their worst behaviour, but that would have enabled the actually good-hearted characters like Ekko and Heimerdinger to shine even brighter, without having to resort to alternative timelines. I might be slightly on crack but after some commentary from the writers and....the way the social climate of 2024 is, I wouldn't be surprised if they made Viktor the god religious "greater guru" figure instead of the machine/technology herald, because right now people are much more sympathetic and fond of the former rather than the ladder. Considering the end of Season 1 started to frame Viktor as being in conflict with the direction Jayce and Piltover was going in, it wouldn't surprise me if the team behind Arcane and Riot decided that it would be in "bad taste" for the anti establishment figure to be the fantastical version of a tech bro which is something associated with people who are against the sort of values your average casual watcher might associate Viktor with. Still a fucking horrible decision, and a showcase of why sometimes its better to ignore certain ongoing social things when making fantasy media.

I think that is a huge reach, it's more likely a bad decision from the creative team at Fortiche, Riot gave them too much freedom, which was good at certain aspects, but in Viktor's case it led them to stray too much from the original, you can see in their concepts they actually had very good mechanical, robotic and cybernetic forms to him, but they settled for this void-like purple noodle.

This is kinda BS lol, go watch some Christian Linke and Fortiche interviews, the actual showrunners, writers and artists all believed in the project, and besides there’s no way they weren’t planning out at least _some stuff_ for Season 2 with that big of a cliffhanger.

Really hope riot won't do it again to the next series... They just killed Viktor . In this show and in game lore, replaced him with a character that is not Viktor but use his abilities Whatever Viktor has become.. he is not a machine, he is just a metallic magician.. there's no gear or wires on him.. or even his mannequins.. those are dolls not even a robot. Even Orianna''s design is a downgrade... so if arcane is canon.. we don't really have any mechanical champions.. cuz orianna is just human transformed into a metallical human..not augmented by technology, glad they removed blitzcrank because they also planned to give him life via arcane and have the same aesthetic as those mannequin but big.. then kill him.

Oh thank GOD someone that sees how bad season 2 is instead of glazing it for hours

Okay it has flaws, but don’t pretend this season was “bad.”

VERY WELL SAID!!! They could have easily made more season! Yes, Viktor and Jayce were key elements to s1, but the main focus was Vi and Jinx!! S2 was just too crowded and I think it would have been more cohesive if they just focused on Jinx and Vi & Jayce and Viktor. These four had the strongest stories and it would have been nice if we got to spend more time with them. 😭

I blame riot they ruined arcane

God, thank you for this video! Everyone around is so excited about season 2 and Jesus-Viktor, that I started to think thtat there's somesting wrong with me.

Im pretty sure they changed their original story because freaking internet keep shipping Jayce and Viktor and they wanted them ending "together" rather than being rivals and in conflict, just like the problems of Piltover and Zaun just ignored and pushed aside, forget the years of oppression, the terrorist attacks and the war crime of gassing the population a small army and a magic twink are the bigger threat, im sick of these "solutions" to bigger problems

it's possible although then if that were ture i dont think the writers would have said that viktor and jayce are completely platonic

I really don't like they remove viktor and jayce rivalry, it already set up when jayce says undercity people are dangerous and viktor desperation to quickly improve zaunite's lives.

Remember when Mel was an interesting character? Don't worry guys, we fixed her, she shoots lasers now- Arcane S2's writing was so colossally bungled it brought me out of shitty youtube retirement to make a video on how it completely dropped all its social themes in favor of fighting a canonically-mistaken wizard.

Oh, boy . Where do I start? This video shows why "lore experts" should not be exposed to material clearly not intended for them. Sorry, but very, VERY few people care about the inconsistencies between series Viktor and LoL Viktor, or wheter they eventually changed Ryze (a completely new character that doesn't show up in the whole series) by Viktor in the end. Also, Viktor is never killed by Jayce, so all of your complaints based on that make no sense. And I could talk a lot more about the innacuracies on your video, but I will stick with the biggest one: sorry to burst your bubble, but season 2 has 100/89 in Rotten Tomatoes and 86/8.1 in Metacritic, so no, it was not received with "mixed reviews" but with universal acclaim. Cheers.

that they are upset with the character lore change is just part of the criticism. Also, critic reviews for a tv show tend to come out for the first few episodes only, ie. most reviews were written only for Act 1, before the writing went way off the rails. There were a million things wrong with Viktor's character arc, and I know nothing of League lore. Was Viktor manipulated by the hexcore or not? Was that really Sky? If he wasn't manipulated by the hexcore, why tf did a hallucination of Sky lead him to that specific spot in the undercity? "In all timelines and all possibilities", does that mean regardless of what happened with Jayce and Hextech, Viktor ALWAYS turns into an evil god bent on assimilating everyone? Even without merging with the hexcore? That would mean everything set up in season 1 with the hexcore was useless. What about the timeline where Viktor presumably dies to his disease? Like in the timeline Ekko goes to... or was there an evil Viktor running around in that timeline who we just didn't see? Was the anomaly mage!Viktor's own construct? It seemed to be fully under his control, in the palm of his hand. If so, why wouldn't he do anything to stop his past self from using it as a power source for assimilating everyone? Just... so much wrong, largely thanks to that stupid timeloop. These are KEY questions that should have been answered in the show to explain WHY Viktor did everything he did. If anything he did was HIS OWN WILL. If you can answer any of them, it's only because it is your personal interpretation. There is nothing in the show to answer any of this.

@@laurennightingale4752considering Arcane clearly wasn’t meant to be canon (or else Riot would have said so from the beginning instead of after it became popular), lore contradictions aren’t exactly fitting here.

I WISH they stayed true to the plot of tragedy and how one character actions affect the other. Ekko, Jinx, Vander, Vi, Silco. All of those were brilliant! And then we have to make a giant threat out of nothing... Because "Somehow". Short story: I've played a lot of dnd and similar games. Most old DMs understand the fact of "Time travel" and all that prophecy thing. Don't do it unless you have everything prepared from the start. Also... Can we mention how Victor and Jayce were just a good homies and end up in this weird ass gay relationship? Why? Dark Souls as well with Miyazaki and his feet obsessesion
