They slowly stopped playing games together and she’d just play on the TV in the actual bedroom. He started becoming a slob and she turned into his maid overtime, cooking and cleaning and laundering after him… and when it was all over and they broke up bro tried one last time to go out for a drink with me and mans had ZERO personality or character to him. Dota isn't doing much better. I think the genre is pretty played out a decade later in a way where I am ten years older but the people that are still playing are not mentally ten years older, even if they have been there for 10 years. It's officially a social-level problem that everyone has failed to solve. I hadn't played in two months, booted dota up, within the first game I am queued with two duo lanes who wanted to play alone. No one came when I asked for rotations mid vs Shadow Fiend (free lane for SF if no rotations happen). Within 5 minutes all of them are bitching at me, calling me names, making excuses for themselves when I ask for rotations instead of just coming to the fights. I have 10k dota games played. I literally just asked people to show up to places and help any time I spoke. They turned into animals and scapegoated me in an impossible matchup, when every single game someone is going to lose mid. The fascinating part is watching someone with 4k games played on my team act like he doesn't know these things; he has to. He just perpetuates the same thing and never improves, never tries anything different, never works with teammates. The genre is dead. Communication skills are dead.

Let me tell you my experience as someone who did download league as a result of watching Arcane. A big part of the reason why is I have friends who are really passionate about the world story and gameplay, and I assume the person reading this might know someone of a similar volition. They helped me understand the gameplay because that game DOES NOT TEACH YOU SHITTTTTT. I can’t possibly imagine someone ever sticking around without help from a third party which is so absolutely absurd from a game that has existed for this long. It’s like if a fighting game only taught you how to move, jump and throw a punch or a kick. What’s blocking? Shut up and look it up. Continuing the fighting game comparisons, the game definitely has a similar appeal of learning a character and everything they’re capable of and way to use their abilities in creative ways. And I can definitely understand why the game is engaging/addicting from this perspective. If you’re not familiar with league gameplay, you have to unlock your characters 4 main abilities by getting kills on players or the minion enemies. In other words everyone is playing Jamie sf6 in every game and is in a race to get to level 4 so they can actually have fun with their kit. The fact that they really thought they could get a casual audience into a game like this is baffling. I dropped it for Marvel Rivals in like a week and a half.

Pat is both wrong and right. One of the spin-off games, Convergence, takes place in Zaun and stars Ekko. @malum947815 күн бұрын
it's a shame too, because convergence is a great game as far as gameplay, but the story and characters are WAY weaker than arcane's. the only really cool idea is the concept of future ekko with the z-drive built into his body. but his whole home life, his random friends, and him being like...13 years old are all way less engaging than the moody, late teens to early twenties, gang leader/revolutionary underdog messiah-of-the-steampunk-slums thing he's got going on in arcane.
@GoldLight7315 күн бұрын
@@malum9478 I respectfully disagree. I like Arcane Ekko, but I also adore him actually having parents. The scene where Ekko's dad scolds him for basically trying to save-scum a conversation with his mom goes hard, and really puts into perspective how something like the Z-Drive can fuck with your perspective on life. What are consequences when you can just rewind until you get the outcome you want? You know it's for moments like these that I never got into League of Legends. To me it's a bunch of shit thrown at the wall that doesn't stick, and I doubt this discrepancy between between the game and show (despite the recent despreate tie-in retcons I heard from long time fans) is going to help 2XKO's (still a god awful name) matters either as that's kinda being it's own weird thing.

Ill never forgive them for shutting down Riot Forge. I like the idea that there is a shared world between these different games that seem to tackle a range of genres with different characters, settings, and art styles (something akin to Steamworld). I guess all I have to look forward to are those other proposed animated series they're working on post Arcane and 2XKO but that is it. Unless there's more supplemental material like comics and such that is worth looking into.

5:18 FF14 is dying because the newest Expansion has little to nothing related to any of the previous stories because the last expansions story was written as a definitive ending to the whole setting. FF14 story is done for most people. Like that is a finished story that you can watch and digest. It's not like WoW where there's always some wiggle room. They really said "And you main character retired as an Adventurer of the World. Lived happily ever after...." And then the plot kept going.

Riot actually shut down Riot Forge, the team that was making most of the spin off games. And the team for the digital card game got gutted so they had to pivot to only making new content for the roguelike deckbuilder mode. The frustrating thing is Riot Games is capable of making high quality products, but they're so stuck on League's business model that they can't see anything else as a success. "League does just fine posting a music video to KZbin once a year, that should be all the marketing any project needs."

The series wasn't meant to translate to *new* league players, it was meant to get previous players who stopped to return to the game. Like my stupid ass. God dammit.

"Let's completely remake the lore of our game for the 5th time, and then pass this detached thing as cannon, by saying it is the main universe of our multiverse franchise in which lore doesn't really matters, because anything goes really" "Oh people are really liking the characters, setting, and story, wonder why they are not jumping back into our main product which has pretty much nothing to do with it, because the lore doesn't really matters, and anything goes really?" Did they forgot that their main product was a MOBA and not an RPG or even and adventure game? well they can make one if they really want, they actually have multiple games now
@Oscar97o19 күн бұрын
Arcane doesn't completely rewrite the lore of the game. Outside of the whole hextech stuff and Viktor becoming an entirely different character, most of it is very minor retcons.

Demacia does have a spin off game in "The Mageseeker" the problem is all these games besides Song of Nunu which is connected to the canon lore. Runeterra's lore is a mess but I love it so much. As for the game itself, it can be really fun with buds.

i was actually close to giving League a shot, as a long time casual Hots enjoyer. around when I downloaded it was when they announced they were adding that sketcherino kernel anti-cheat that monitors everything on your computer EVEN when you aren't playing League. that last part was what really got me. so i ended up deleting it and waiting to see if theyd back down, and then the update came and the reports came in of vanguard bricking peoples machines and I decided yeah, I don't want to play a moba *that* bad. so i can image that kept a lot of potential recruits away as well. ironically though i havent watched arcane

The craziest thing I’ve seen come out of this was Riot August, a lead designer, coming out an saying in response to”we don’t make Arcane to make money for League, League makes us money for things like Arcane” which is not only some insane levels of cope (I know he’s a dev so he literally has to say it for his job security) but it so blatantly untrue considering Riot’s big projects to expand the League ip have slowly been getting cut back if not out right canceled. The only things now are 2XKO and the MMO that totally still exists.
@MrShirotomo19 күн бұрын
They also have the Tcg they are gonna release next year.
@Valanway19 күн бұрын
It's not that crazy. FFXIV is the same with for Square Enix (even if, just like with lots of League projects, they squander what they already have by taking the budget away and allocating it to bullshit nobody thinks will succeed, and oh surprise, mostly hasn't.)
@acksawblack18 күн бұрын
Except its not insane you just have no idea how to build a brand. Arcane isn't to make money for league, its a platform to allow riot to grow beyond league.

Pat mentions the existence of other games in the same setting and kind of brushes them off for not being in the same part of the world. But do we actually know one way or the other if Arcane got anybody to buy convergence or mageseeker or to play tft?
@Mattismen19 күн бұрын
When people got upset that Arcane didn't win Best Adaptation at The Game Awards I got somewhat confused, because regardless of its quality, it is not exactly a faithful adaptation of its source material, or the experience of playing it.

6:00 (unless things have changed from back when I played) actually league tries to sidestep the "balance optimization" problem by using it's fuck off sized cast. Rather than try to find a perfect balance, they would just rotate the meta every season by buffing & nerfing various characters, which because they have like 1,000 of seemed to go mostly fine.
@Vanity066619 күн бұрын
This is why they were also making a fighting game, card game, mmo, adventure games, rpgs, and tabletop games. The Ekko metroidvania, the Ruined King RPG, and 2xko are the only ones that made it out.

It’s not AAA, but there is Convergence, a 2D platformer revolving around Ekko. Of course it doesn’t use his Arcane design and backstory so show watchers might not get into it.

Fallout is one of those franchises that was an easy W in the making. Not everything needs to adapted sure, but it definitely helps longevity. Soulcalibur could still be alive if Namco bothered to let even a crappy OVA pass.
@RicochetForce19 күн бұрын
@@li-limandragon9287 I'm surprised Soul Calibur hadn't gotten an open world adventure game with the cast in addition to an OVA or something. Their single player modes in the games show they'd work quite well in something like that. Unfortunately, Bandai-Namco has no interest in developing the Soul Calibur franchise.

As goofy as it is, there WAS tie in content for the first season, but it wasn't with LoL. In Valorant you could buy Jinx's revolver as a skin but it was limited time, I'm not sure if it's buyable anymore
