It shouldn’t tell you everything about his past/origin, but it shows you where he ends up. Some people entered this show knowing most of the champs but not knowing their backstory, so the show was still interesting to them because they didn’t know everything

I just personally believe Viktor has romantic feelings too from paying attention to the smaller details. But even when they end up hating each other I’m sure the emotions will be more complex than just hatred.

But the way Viktor looks at Jayce, isn’t interested in Skys advances, the bedroom joke, associating Jayce with love(in the scene with Signed), his important symbol in the promotional artwork being Jayce etc. points towards the possibility that he has unrequited feelings for Jayce. Obviously the rejection of Sky is mostly to show how obsessed he is with his work, but it can have multiple meanings.(like he doesn’t see the point due to his health, or perhaps even that he’s aroace, but the juxtaposition to Jayce with Mel may be symbolic of romantic feelings) It’s just an interpretation. People shipping them romantically just goes to show how intimate and deep their relationship is.
