This is why you see the montage of child Jayce being given numerous different runes. Without Ekko's Z-drive fracturing Viktor's shell, he can't be driven away from the path of the Glorious Evolution. The Z-drive is made from inversions of Jayce's acceleration rune. In all other timelines, Ekko is either stuck in the alternate universe, or is unable to build the device capable of damaging Viktor. "Throughout all timelines, only you can make me see this"

Ekko's Z-drive exposed Viktors humanity, allowing Jayce to show him his memories in the only state Viktor was capable of connecting with. Without that particular rune, the acceleration rune, Ekko would not be able to build the device capable of deconstructing and reverting Viktor's state of mind.
