Saturday outdoor market in a small Northern California town known for easy living and pot culture.

This is a place where you will start feeling guilty for not bringing your own bags to the grocery store. You will suddenly find yourself getting into brewing your own beer, jarring your own pickles and walking or biking to work and school instead of driving. There is an endless list of outdoor activities to enjoy, as well as heaps of community events and festivals to attend on the weekends. I've been living here for almost two years now and I love it

I had some dumbass college kids give me dirty looks at arcatas wildberrys for using their paper bags, its like.... I compost, you fucking piece of shit, and the damage is already done, I wasn't the one who made the paper bag, and sold it to a liberal store who bought it for their customers

7 years later and it's required to bring your own grocery bags. Do you have any more observations, if so, please share them?

@@mrtimezone8658 Nope because I haven't lived there since 2014, nor have I been back to visit since then.

@Harrison Bergeron I haven't lived there in 7 years. I've moved to 3 different cities and another state since then and Arcata is still my favorite place I've lived. I get that it''s not for everyone, but I personally would gladly move back to the area if I could afford it or find work there.

Arlyn thanks for the tip. I have friends from Hupa rez, and some Hupas who live in Arcata, which I love/hate due to the amount of tweaker and rainbow kids on the streets. I want to move where people don’t treat you differently for having brown skin. That’s my only concern.

How is HSU? I really want to transfer out there for a wildlife major, and where I live is way too urban and way too hot to enjoy the outdoors (I live in the desert area). I heard they have a lot of good organizations for living more responsibly and green, so it seemed like a good choice.

Kinda. It’s a cute little city and you’ll see little gatherings like this in certain spots on the weekends. There are some tweakers and homeless people there but it’s definitely not the worst part of CA lol. A lot of the people in these comments are hyperbolic because they’re from bland little suburbs so they freak out when they see some homeless people

It costs more to live in Beaufort, SC (total cost of living) than in Arcata, CA. With rents between $650 and $950 and the ability to buy a full buggy of groceries in Eureka for under $180, it costs between $900 and $1,300 less to live in Arcata than what it costs my family to live in Beaufort.
@johnnyblade12935 жыл бұрын
NatureBoi Hikes the town of Arcata is super full of tweakers. I’m just saying. I’ve seen people handing lit joints to children downtown. I’ve seen young adults standing on the sidewalk so wacked out that they shit their pants. You see some crazy shit in Arcata. No thanks!
@NosillaWilla12 жыл бұрын
I lived in Arcata for over a year before moving to Loleta. Have to say, Arcata was a very cool place to live. Great vibe, and there are a lot of cool people. It's the place to live if you are a college student.

@Zed Love its on a land trust. The forest can't be logged I live in a half acre clearing
@NosillaWilla Жыл бұрын
@Zed Love everything humans do has a price. A lot of forestry practices in logging can be sustainable, especially select cut practices. Housing is in short supply, building with wood is one of the least carbon intensive practices there is. There can be a balance with sustainably and future development, but it becomes difficult in today's world of profit driven practices.

"They ought to throw a net over the whole bunch of 'em." - Dirty Harry, 1971 Still, as a libertarian, to each his own; America's still a relatively free place - for the time being - so if people want to live like this so be it. However, if EVERYONE in the country wanted to live this way - as non-producing remoras - we'd be in very big trouble indeed. Still, I can respect someone who decides to bum around as long as they don't expect someone who doesn't to ante-up and provide for him.

Man what a great time we use to have. Now everyone is scared of each other, and guilty of their right to be alive, especially if you identify as white. Miss this little hippie town of activist, renegade cannabis growers, and natural remedy believers of intuitive health. Comply and signal you are PC and compliant is the new norm. Polytech college with more students then infrastructure can handle, but hey it's the future $$$. Keep it real Humboldt, our children are watching

I'm a libertarian as well, but I approach it from a very different perspective. First off, as a libertarian, you should be fully on board with the non agression principle. You let people live as they wish (regardless of your personal opinions) so long as they do not initiate force upon you. That means no "throwing a net over the whole bunch of 'em". Live and let live. Secondly, it's fallacious to think the whole country would want to live like that. It's not possible with a free market.
