Yeah! I moved to eureka right before the pandemic started and work in healthcare. I was a dude from the Midwest out there on my own trying to do my job but also manage my mental and physical health during that craziness. Good and bad memories which is fine. Beautiful area of California and reminded me of Midwest pace but with a nice view.

I've attended college of the redwoods Corsair back in 81-84, played on the basketball team. I have great memories attending school, night life and attending events. I never experience any bad situation or racism. Majority of the people's treated me great.

There are alot of people that live here that won't let their kids free in local parks .It's a sad thing compared to when I moved here from the SF Bay Area 30+ years ago.The city does alot of Covering things up .Like when Cruise ships get here they clear the homeless out of specific areas for tourist Kind of like Gavin Newsom did for the Chinese leaders in San Francisco

Having lived here for about 15 years, I can't say I'm a fan of this video. While it's well-shot and narrated, it's not really representative of the city. The first half of the video- to about the 11 minute mark- of this is *barely* Eureka... It's mostly Samoa and Humboldt Hill, which are like 2% of the area of the city of Eureka- at best. Despite what is claimed, that area is *not* a vacationer home area... Samoa is home to some of the poorest people in the area; though you barely get a hint of it in the video, there's a lot of homes there, just off the main roads,that are little more than shacks- ratty, poorly maintained, and barely livable, rented to those who don't care enough to complain or who can't *afford* to complain. There's also a very large homeless population living in the dunes and forest along the coast... A few hundred people, most times of year. That may not sound like a lot to some people, but 250+ in a city with a population of ~25,000 is a pretty high proportion. Also, swimming in the ocean isn't a big thing here at any time of year; this far north, even in August the water is pretty damned cold. You can't spend any significant amount of time in the water without a proper suit up here because hypothermia is a real risk... I write this on June 15, and the daytime temperature today was 58°F /14°C, and typically won't rise beyond 72°F/22°C more than once or twice at the hottest part of summer; that doesn't make for pleasant water to swim in. For the second half of the video, it's basically a cruise down Highway 101 (the main north-south road through the western side of California) that, again, ignores most of Eureka. It shows none of Old Town, which is literally just four very short blocks (you can see it in the video, the blocks in Eureka are only like 5 buildings long!) west and features a lot of amazing shops, restaurants, wine bars, pubs, and other interesting places for visitors. The video doesn't go east from Highway 101 *at all*, and the city goes east for several MILES. No visit to any of the best restaurants, no stopping by dozens of cool shops, and-perhaps worst of all, because I adore them- no stop to the zoo to visit the Red Pandas. (Seriously, they are amazing... Not only pretty,, but brilliant animals, too,, at least as smart as the zoo keepers. One or more of them will escape once every other year or so and go wander town, and every time they do I spend my free time looking for them, lol.) Seriously, Eureka has *so* much more to offer than this video shows. It's like driving by a series of restaurants and showing Burger King, McDonald's, and Subway; but not the cool local joint that makes like 50 flavors of milk shake (we have one), the place that makes hand-made chocolates (there's a few), the one that does amazing sushi (there's like five), or the place with amazing barbecue (we have several- what style do you want, Texas, St. Louis, Memphis, Louisiana...?) I give the video 8/10 for what it does show... But 5/10 overall because it misses just sooooo much. Still, 👍 for showing people Eureka exists and is worth visiting, mate. ***edited to fix typos
