I enjoyed the opportunity and I'm thankful for the chance I was given to put this MIG 200 to work and see what it could do...I commented the team at ARCCAPTAIN for the design and construction of a great little welding unit. Please keep me posted on the use of the NBS WELDING promo code as I will be very curious as to how many viewers decide to buy a MIG 200...if there is anything else I can do for ARCCAPTAIN or the viewers that may help to get work done I'd certainly do my best to be of assistance. Thanks again to ARCCAPTAIN and the viewers Now go weld something!!!

I'm 80 and been welding since my uncle's smitshop when I was 9 and my welds are all over the world so some think I'm qualified to question . My weldsare all over the world and I can't believe you got the penetration on that size material on that tiney machine. In the world of electricity the power isn't about voltage. The power is amps. Big needs huge amps and the offshore drilling platforms were so big we looked like ants on them.. I can't remember ever seeing anyone give a review so much attention . I just ordered their 50 + amp plasma torch today and will probably buy the stick Tig modle cause I like matching rigs. thanks for your effort. I subbed Dandahermit

When running longer stick-out (long-arc), higher electrical output is required versus very close-in short arc. Running the electrical extension cord a long distance can also affect operation due to voltage drop, which may cause the welder to pull more electricity on the longer cord versus a short cord. I suspect this is why the ArcCaptain was acting oddly on 120VAC with flux core at a greater distance, and then showed improved performance when running on 240VAC. Really love these videos! I'm a huge fan of NBS! Each day a new video is posted, it's like Christmas! Hopefully more vendors will reach out for additional no-nonsense, real-world use cases instead of the typical KZbin reviews. I'd love to see YesWelder, Everlast and others provide this channel with some of their welder-cutter products and multi-process models that should stack up nicely in comparison to the ArcCaptain and HF models. Always good to see more PrimeWeld, too! These new upstarts are good options for those that can't afford the higher cost Miller, Lincoln, ESAB, etc.

What a fantastic review. Always from the approach of what a hobby/farm/backyard mechanic would deal with and is resourced with. Of course your talent does not come with the welder but watching your videos will get us amateurs a little closer. Thanks man! I just subscribed! Approaching the review from the perspective of the target user is rarely done in these reviews. You mentioned the possibility of being able to run .045 gas shielded flux core. I have the Lincoln Power Mig 210MP and I run .045 Lincoln Ultra-Core 71A-85 gas shielded flux core with it all the time. It runs it great with voltage to spare! Only problem is, if you’re working on something where you can run 18” long welds or multiple 6” long stitch welds in succession (think about replacing a cutting edge), it gets hot and will kick the thermal overload protection switch. Just let it rest a couple minutes and it goes right back to work. What’s really handy is, since it’s an inverter, if you’re on a bigger job with lots of welding and you’re working with someone who can weld; I’ve run my suitcase AND my 210MP, both with the .045 Ultra-Core 71A-85, simultaneously off my Lincoln 305G engine drives. Pretty handy when the situation presents itself.
@NBSWELDING Жыл бұрын
I've heard that the 210MP shuts off like that...my Buddy was just talking about that yesterday...he's had it happen on long welds with solid wire MIG.
@messybench Жыл бұрын
My Lincoln tig older transformer used to draw 50 amps from the outlet and would shut down on longer welds, like making aluminum trailer doors. I put a bigger vent opening and fan on it, and it seems to have made all the difference.

Absolutely excellent review! I've got a Miller Syncrowave 210 multiprocess that I mostly use; but have wanted another welder just for my 13 & 14yo boys to practice with. I've never heard of ArcCaptain until now, but am very impressed. One request if possible: While I have a primarily "hobbyist" type shop, I also use my Syncrowave on stick mode at 150 amps (max) to arc gouge using 3/16" carbons (which works surprisingly well). I realize that many will think that 300-500A is required to gouge.....but any chance that you could do some gouging with that machine & 1/8" or 3/16" carbons? Having a portable machine that I could gouge with is another reason that I've been considering another welder. Thanks again!
@NBSWELDING Жыл бұрын
I never buy carbons smaller than 5/16" and my current workload will prevent me from putting any more time into testing that right now but I gotta say that if I was able to run 3/16" E7014 rods one after another like I did then I doubt there would be any issue at all gouging with 1/8" carbons...actually I'd say those 3/16" would be more work on a machine than 1/8" carbons Thanks for watching and commenting...sorry I can't post any vids of gouging right now but will keep that in mind if the chance comes up!

120 Volt mode with 100 ft. of cord. The reason the breaker trips is the cord at that length has too much resistance. I'll bet a 75 ft cord would help with the resistance problem and breaker trip. Whenever you can use a shorter cord, do it. Other than that, the welder seems to be great!

As good in what way?...The flux core verses 7018 question could take big discussion if all the points were looked at. Most novice welders find it easier to learn to run flux core and especially easier to run uphill than 7018....flux core is very versatile from thin to thick material...7018 is more elastic and does better to purify and fuse dissimilar metals...far less occasions of crater cracking with 7018...lots of things can be considered.

If you look at the markings on the wire, I expect that it will be shown to be rated at least 300 VAC. You could put new a 230 VAC plug on the cable or make a short adapter so that you get 230 on the cable. The welder you have has the 120 VAC plug that would go into your now 230 VAC extension cord. BE CAREFUL. FYI, I just got this welder and it has the 230 VAC plug, and the jumper takes it back to 120 VAC. ALSO, the manual states that the machine is 60 % Duty Cycle so you have to give it a rest periodically. Another point to bear in mind, that machine is solid state and then you trip that breaker, that machine is very warm and then you lose the fan. When the happens, you need to haul ass and get the fan back on...

Not much formal education at all...mostly only went to training centers for qualifications

@@NBSWELDING The training centers have served you well...The BootCamp of Professional Welders IMHO.

Could you possibly put out a list on what size rods worked and which ones didn't work. I have to say awesome video hands down you really put that Arccaptain mig 200 through its test😎👍
@NBSWELDING9 ай бұрын
All sizes worked...3/32"-1/8"-5/32"-3/16"....they all work The only rods I've found that don't work with these budget inverters is 6010 in any size....but my testing showed that you can replace 6010 with 6011 if you need a cellulose rod that will weld downhill...I'll include a link to the 6011 video, the 6011 testing is at the end of it kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWG3n5KvbrKefcksi=3tlxdZ6v9aAnpo9-

Ran a full 5kg box of 3.2mm 6013's today using an even tinier Yeswelder 145amp stick machine. No idea how the thing stuck it, it never even tripped out due to heat, not once. I had it turned up to all the beans, all day, welding 6mm plate - meters & meters of it. At the start of the day, I was waiting for it to trip out - by lunchtime, I was so sick of running rods I didn't pay it an ounce of heed, I just burnt rod after rod, ignoring the machine - it didn't even cough. Unbelievable. Better yet, I had it plugged into 220V, off a 50m extension lead, all on 13amp fuses. No way in hell did I expect it to run more than 8 or 10 rods before crapping the bed due to overheat. Machine didn't blink. I'm gonna ask it to do the same again tomorrow, run another full 5kg box of rods - I expect it will, will be surprised if it doesn't. How bored of running 6013 rods am I now? Very bored. How impressed am I by the tiny tiny welder? Very impressed.

I chucked the factory supplied leads, stinger & earth clamp in the bin right out of the box btw - am using much better quality, heavier ones - but that aside, the machine is bog standard.

Do you think this could do lighter dual shield jobs? I wouldnt see why not as long as you pick mix or c02 and have your polarity correct. I just picked one of these up instead of getting a suitcase as i dont have a dedicated mig in my shop so this would be going out with me on jobs and getting fed off my bobcat when im not home
@NBSWELDING Жыл бұрын
I'm sure it would work good for dual shield. When I MIG welded with it to build that awning over the swing I ran it off of the 240 volt outlet on my Trailblazer with .030 solid wire and 75/25 gas...worked great This is a more versatile choice than a suitcase and much lighter
@NBSWELDING yeah I would have gotten the xtreme 8 so it'd run the smaller spools to save weight cause I already have a tig set up for my bobcat and of course it does stick so all I needed left was mig but for the price and weight I figured it'd be a better option since it's cheaper and lighter

Thanks for the great review. I do have a question and your opinion would be appreciated. I am looking at the ArcCaptain or a Lincoln SP 140 T (price wise are about the same) entry level. Lincoln 140 is just a flux- gas mig welder vs all the capabilities of the arc captain. I am new to welding and just a hobbyist. Which of the two would you purchase if you had to make that choice and why. My only worry about the arc captain is long term performance. Where Lincoln will last and work for ever. Thank you.

I definitely would choose the ARCCAPTAIN for its capabilities and it's unlimited ability to allow you to expand your skill set as a welder, fabricator, and repairman. A flux core 140 is a very limited machine and although the professional machines from companies like Lincoln & Miller are in fact built bulletproof I don't find that their hobby machines like the 140 are all that great...many people have had issues with them. So it's my opinion that unless your ready to spend thousands of dollars on a welding system then your better off going with a budget priced multi process machine from the start. It's true that the cabinet and other components are built lighter and with cheaper materials but as a hobby welder you can control how the machine is cared for much better than a company with many employees using the same equipment. When it's your machine to care for I don't think your gonna smash and beat on it like guys do when they use equipment that is provided to them...so I don't think it's really likely that your gonna have problems with your budget machine.

Thank you for your advice, I think I am going to go on a limb and order one. One more question if you don’t mind. Would you recommend me buying the wire from them ? and is their large view helmet any good. I think I may also order their plasma cutter, have you tried it ? Thank you.
@NBSWELDING9 ай бұрын
The flux core wire that I used in the review video when I was welding on the tractor trailer landing gear is from ARCCAPTAIN so you should be able to see that it did real well...that flux core is the only wire from ARCCAPTAIN that I have tried....I think you should compare their wire to what you have available near you and decide what to buy from that. I show the ARCCAPTAIN hood in many videos...I like it...it's the lightest hood I have and it has all the features of a high cost hood...I think you'll love the ARCCAPTAIN hood. I have not tried their plasma cutter.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions and advice. As a green horn here some guidance is always appreciated. I have been a CNC machinist for over 20 years so I understand metal. I just never melted metal I always turned it or milled it. Not used to adding material I have always taken material away 😅 Thanks for your input 👍🏼

I would say that you beat the piss out of that little machine. Great review. Did you ever try the tig?
@NBSWELDINGАй бұрын
I don't find any use for DC TIG...I can MIG weld thin material with .030" solid wire and I just don't run into anything that I would want to TIG on DC. I have an ARCCAPTAIN TIG200P that I AC TIG with on aluminum though and it's the best TIG I've got

Does it TIG aluminum?
@NBSWELDING Жыл бұрын
If you TIG aluminum with it you'd have to do so on DC....no AC TIG on this machine You actually can TIG aluminum on DC and there are vids on KZbin about doing so but DC is not the normal way to do it....AC TIG is considered best for aluminum

@NBSWELDING I think you can get a 15' their website has a module sg15 I've got a question sent to them waiting on answer if so I'll save the 10' for aluminum and use the 15' for everything else
@wendell45410 ай бұрын
That would be a great idea just leave the Teflon liner in the 10 ft at all times
