I agree with your assessment that Arccos is the superior system overall, particularly in terms of data display. However, after transitioning to Shot Scope, I discovered that while their data presentation might not be as polished as Arccos, it still provides the necessary information. Considering Shot Scope's customer service and responsiveness, I struggle to rationalize paying a subscription fee solely for aesthetic data representation. Since switching to Shot Scope a year ago, I've been highly satisfied with their ecosystem. Moreover, I've found Shot Scope's accessories to be very affordably priced, particularly when purchasing additional tags for clubs.

Didn't get Arccos because of the subscription and frankly, I don't need advice, distances or anything else from this tech on the course. I have a laser gun and two feet to pace things off as needed so only having the H4 device is fine. Last year was my first with Shot Scope and I've incorporated it into my ritual before each shot (I still forget but that is what the web interface is for). I like it, it is great data and their customer service has been exceptional and responsive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Shot Scope also records the pin position when you press the button for "Pin Collect".
@nupezb8 ай бұрын
Yes, they do. You press the Pin Collect over the hole, and that’s it. However, one thing missing in this review is GPS accuracy. Usually, it’s a few yards either way. It’s not a big deal on drivers or approaches, but once you are on the green, that is a different issue. I have had Arccos, and I now have Shot Scope, and putting data on both systems requires data adjustments.
@pbode18 ай бұрын
@@nupezb Good point on the GPS. I have the X5 for a couple of months now and I suspected these deviations.. It's a good thing I review the round on the web dashboard the same day I play, because putts do indeed need adjustments. Even the pin collect isn't perfect, there's always a couple of holes where I'm going 'hey that wasn't where the pin really was'

If your GPS is a little off on the Shotscope consistently (at the same course etc). Let their team know by emailing them that their GPS is not linked with the on course results and they will fix it. It’s most likely a mapping issue and they just have to fix that. I’ve had a shotscope since V2 and used my X5 last night on my League track. Spot on with the GPS on the cart.

I’m an Arccos user and was an early adopter. Paring with Apple Watch has always been the killer setup, and I don’t mind having my phone in a pocket mid-game but I despise having to have it in front pocket. Watch based shot listening on any non Ultra watch is a battery no-fly zone. Since upgrading to Watch Ultra, the Arccos system is flawless. Phone in hip pocket as scorecard and reference with watch doing the heavy lifting, quick reference and pin locations. Arccos plus Apple Watch Ultra is where it’s at.

Great review, I was using Arccos for the last 3 years (quit the subscription this spring) and if I can add my comments. PROS : the data you get is awesome, the app is truly excellent. CONS : >> I don't play more than twice a month and the cost is hefty for the nice-looking stats, I don't like the subscription model when the sensors are already pricey, >> the sensors die quite regularly (Arccos kindly send some replacements but not always so you have to buy more), >> having the phone in your pocket is a pain and the link options are again expensive. Like in the review, I use Garmin watches - currently use Venu 2 for golf, swimming, running and any other sport I may want to try - to track my health. I have an apple watch as well that I rarely wear as I find the Garmin more versatile. Struggling at the moment to justify buying the Garmin sensors so will probably continue manually adding the stats in the very poor Garmin golf app. Shame that Garmin cannot up their Golf App game.

@davevecht7205 ай бұрын
I have all three. Shotscope was the first system I purchased. I like that it doesn't require a subscription, it records the putts, you can view and update data on a computer (as opposed to in the app on your phone), and you can reassign tags to different clubs and it keeps the data club-specific. The hardware is relatively inexpensive. The tags are low profile. And you can pull several clubs from your bag and it doesn't have a problem knowing which club you used. I got the Arrcos because it has cleaner data analytics. Plus, with Shotscope, I was resorting to wearing my smart watch on my right arm so I could stay connected to my phone and continue recording health data. It doesn't track putts as well as Shotscope. You can reassign tags but the data is linked to the tag instead of the club. I use the link, which is cool. However I did accidentally turn it off trying to locate a pin and didn't notice until the end of the round. So I lost the data from that round. The pin location button is small and is right next to the power button. I push the button without taking it out of my pocket and it's not easy to feel the button through layers of pants and pocket. The Garmin watch has better GPS. It tracks all my health data and keeps me connected to my phone. I don't have the tags and it doesn't record putts. You also can't add strokes to the end of your approach, so short chips onto the green don't get recorded either. All that being said, I am using Arrcos with the link and Garmin when I play.

@OllieMartinGamer kinda, yeah. There are times when the Shotscope takes a really long time to lock onto the GPS signal, and I'll be a couple holes into a round before it starts tracking. I may not renew the subscription and go back to using the Shotscope, however.

Nice video! After watching, I feel even better about my decision to just stick with Garmin. I use my Fenix 7 for so much more than just golf- it rarely leaves my wrist. I use it for mountain biking and hiking as well. As for golf, I don't have the sensors. I feel the watch does very good with tracking swings, and I don't really care about putt distances. If I hit a long putt I will walk it off to get a guesstimate on the distance. I am one of those people that works very hard to reduce subscriptions, so I appreciate that Garmin gives that to me.
@aupperlee8 ай бұрын
I use the Garmin S70 and have the three pack of sensors. Sensors went on my three wedges as the watch has a harder time picking up less than full swings. Otherwise it recognizes every other club, and prompts me to enter which club I hit. Takes less than a second every shot. I too wish Garmin had better SG data and more insights. I’d even pay a subscription for it! I also wish they made a sensor for putters that fit putter grips better. The white CT10 looks so goofy on a big over size putter grip. One feature of the Garmin shot tracking you neglected to mention in this video is that it uses your actual distances to inform AI caddy for help in club selection. I’ve actually found that AI caddy helps me “club up” in times when I’m perhaps a little more bullish about my distances than I should be.

It is a premium watch, the GPS numbers are usually spot on and I love the Virtual Caddie feature. I also have the 3 x CT10 tags which you have to pay extra for. However, Garmin's customer service and development of the game analysis on the Golf app and online is deplorable. And it's putting set-up is useless. But as I say, the watch is fantastic. I recently acquired a Shot Scope X5 from a friend and I understand why he was keen to offload it. It is very buggy, laggy and the touchscreen is quite poor, especially in wet conditions. He and his regular crew have gone to Arcoss but I am not interested in yet another subscription. Fortunately, Shot Scope have come to the party and are giving me a store credit for the dodgy X5 so I will get myself a V5 and enjoy it telling me that my driving off the tee is currently at the level of a toddler.

I've had Shot Scope for a number of years now. The software is cumbersome because after your round you have to sync the watch to your phone to upload the round. After the upload you have to go through each hole and verify each. In some cases shots are missed so there are gaps at times. I eventually stopped using it for data tracking and just use the GPS aspect of the watch.

Nice review - thanks! Here's a question i never see talked about - I'm a guy who's always had poor vision - I need reading glasses for anything under size 72 font (alright, not really 72, by you get my point!). Consequently, most GPS watches have too small fonts for me to see w/o reading glasses. No one wants to constantly put on/ take off reading glasses while playing - it's slow and my eyes have to constantly re-adjust to distance. I am not technically challenged at all, but want simplicity in my golf playing, and i already have too much crap in my pockets and don't want my iphone in my pants. Sounds like Arccos with its new link thing is the way to go! PS. I would consider a watch with larger or adjustable font, but then my Mr. Magoo (showing my age) eyes wouldn't see much data due to the large font on a 1" screen! And yes, i don't care for a subscription model, so I may also consider the Shot Scope product just because of that. But maybe do Arccos for a year or so, then dump it? bottom line is this question: what application works best for us Mr. Magoo's with poor eyesight? looking forward to answers and comments! thank you!

I have an Apple Watch and a Garmin S70. I have been wanting a tracking system, but the main goal would be only for club selection recommendations (ie the club to use based on average distance.) I like that on the Garmin golf watch I can see the entire hole and my understanding is with the Arccos on the Apple Watch that is not the case. If these are my main concerns, would you recommend me sticking with the S 70 or giving Arccos a try
@thomasday33618 ай бұрын
Just FYI - Arccos also has an app for Android watches. It is not fully integrated, but it will give you your distances to the green. I use it on my Galaxy watch just for the distance to the green - front, middle and back. If I need to see a picture of the hole to see distance to a hazard or the shape of the hole, I pull out my phone. I do love the shot tracking of Arccos. I used to use the golf pad sensors, but remembering to touch the sensor to my phone before every shot was a hassle.

I use a Coros watch for fitness, and it has no golf function, so I needed something else specifically for golf. Arccos didn't make sense as I have nothing to pair it with, and I have a dislike for subscriptions. Garmin, similarly, made no sense, given my Coros watch, so I bought a Shotcope V3. ShotScope has excellent customer service, and a solid product, so I never looked back. The V3 did miss a fairly high number of shots, requiring some editing, which was a minor inconvenience. When the X5 came out, I moved to that, and it misses a lot less shots, and it adds score-keeping and some other advanced features, however, the touch screen was not ready for prime time. It eats battery, it doesn't work in the rain, and it takes input if you bump it, plus you have to unlock it whenever you want to do anything. Now I am switching to the V5, which should arrive soon. I love ShotScope data, and I think the V5 will be the watch I like best in the end. It will have a long battery life like the V3, accuracy like the X5, and will avoid the touch screen issues of the X5. For $250 with no subscription, it's going to be a winner.

Sean, a couple of things about the ARCCOS system that were not mentioned. You CAN use the ARCCOS with an Android watch, it is not as polished as the Apple and it causes a bit of watch battery drain but if you use the Link and range finder but are not able to see the pin the watch will show you distances without your phone. I’m thinking of making the same switch as you, do you input your club selection into the watch to better inform the virtual caddie feature or do you just ignore it? I don’t currently even think about it with my Garmin sensors but I’m trying to figure out the “workflow” if I switch to Arccos and keep using my Garmin watch.

So when I did research to decide between arccos and shot scope, i learned that the arccos sensors can die and they do not have a chargeable/replaceable battery. so once they die, you have to get new ones? The shot scope ones don't need batteries bc it uses the same technology used with apple pay so you just scan it to your phone and your phone does the work. I chose to spend the $100 on shot scope and not the $200 for arccos, however much for the subscription and a potential extra $200 once they die.

Not a stupid question at all! If your clubs came with the sensors (not the built in Arccos grips), then you'll have no problem switching them out when/if you decide to get CT10 sensors. If they came with the Arccos Smart Grips, then there's no hole at the butt of the clubs, so you won't be able to use the CT10s with those.

Great awareness review. there is definitely more in depth analysis needed on how well it functions on the course (individual videos have been great though) so people reading this should check those out to see them in action. For me, actually using them was far more important than the looks/data. IF you have the apple watch, get the arcos. Many of my friends do this and love it. I am not apple user so Shotscope v4 is best for me. you can do pin location on manual putting mode (not specified in this video very well). I've tried the Garmin system because I have the R10 and wanted to sync up and found it wasn't worth the cost and the benefits really werent there unless you are an absolute data nut. My only complaint about shotscope is that the tags sometimes dont ready quickly enough with the proximity sensor on the watch or If i use the same club twice in a row, it misses the second shot. Good overview. Would be nice to see the "refined" aspects of the arccos vs shot scope. You have hundreds of rounds using these devices so would assume you have some video footage to help illustrate what you are talking about. These are the two I would choose between, but not having an iwatch or any apple products, I would be leaning towards shot scope I guess. Garmin not having good UI is just odd. They have been doing GPS for as long as just about anyone in the industry. You would think they might have stumbled upon the best UI by now.

I had Arccos (without Arccos link) last summer but short game tracking wasn't good. Needed to edit shots manually from almost every hole. A lot more than 50% of holes anyways. Didn't track short chips too often and putt tracking was totally useless. Couldn't even track amount of putts so nothing to talk about putt lenghts etc. Also not a fan of subscription especially because we have 5-6 months season here in Finland. I bought Garmin S70 and I'll try CT10's paired to watch. Don't know what to expect if Arccos is "most accurate". Also can't add a sensor to my putter since it has Arccos sensor built-in grip. Lets see how it goes.

@breakingeighty8 ай бұрын
For me personally, I'd choose Arccos hands down. I'm happy to pay the $155 a year for a product that I think is quite a bit better than the others. Caveat being, I still love my Garmin watch. So if I had that and didn't want to pay for an additional product, it certainly can get the job done.
@glenock7668 ай бұрын
@@breakingeighty yeah i cant argue with that. Im a shotscope user now and i miss the data and app architecture of arccos. But where their software is superior their hardware lags behind. There’s no reason they should be using fragile battery powered sensors that also lengthen and change the swingweight of a club. If they used shotscope NFC type sensors it will be game over

Used Arccos, however, for the limited amount of rounds I got in...paying for stats wasn't for me especially when it seemed I was always fixing a handful of shots per round. I know no software like this is perfect but if I am going to pay annually for something, I feel it should be closer to perfect. May try out Shot Scope this year.
@breakingeighty8 ай бұрын
Definitely give Shot Scope a try - the lack of subscription fee is a huge benefit.
@jamiedugger7696 ай бұрын
I think you hit a lot of the main points on the head here. The stats display and information is a bit more elegant on the Arccos. One thing not mentioned in your video is the sensors are quite larger than the Shot Scope. I wish they could reduce the size. Also would be nice to see them come up with their own watch for use with the product. I think the Apple Watch would be the most seamless and less intrusive integration but it's an extra cost if you didn't already have the watch. You can see it in the video but you can move the pin location in the Shot Scope and the V5 in my opinion is a much superior product to the X5 watch (I have both). The X5 I was bumping the watch and being a touchscreen was very frustrating and I found the touchscreen to be difficult to operate. The V5 is so much better. I assume they still work but I think I still have a set of Arccoss sensors that included the subscription for the life of the product. Maybe one day I''ll bust those out (I've always hesistated because the Link and phone was always a non-starter for me)
@seanbrown67968 ай бұрын
What Garmin needs to do is integrate the trackers with their launch monitor. Get the monitor, add the trackers to your clubs and it just knows what distances you hit on average for each club without messing around.

@breakingeighty8 ай бұрын
Nope, it's something that really only works while on the course.
@chuckhova7 ай бұрын
Just to further explain the technology. What all these sensors do is when they sense an impact (you hitting the golf ball) they send a message ("6 iron was used") to whatever is listening (phone, watch, etc.) which tracks the club and the GPS position it was used at. It then plays connect the dots to figure out the distances. So driving range, lost balls, drops, etc. would not be tracked as they only know where the ball landed because of the next shot.

I've had Arccos since 2020 and there have been so many improvement to the app, the tracking, and the metrics that I willingly pay the $150 per year fee. However I also have a Garmin Fenix 7x SS watch that I got 2 years ago and I wear for everything. So I do the same as you, I will have both running while I am golfing at the same time, and as much as I'd like to drop Arccos to have a full Garmin system, the Garmin app, metrics, and updates are just horrible in comparison. It is lacking so much and I have no confidence in Garmin that they will improve it any time soon.

great reviews of all….I used Arccos or about a decade or so…great product and truly probably the best, as you said…but, I had two issues with it…1. The subscription (which it didn’t have on the first gen when I got it)…AND 2. The sensors are annnnnnnoying!! Too bulky and my hand always seems to find them and treat them as part of the shaft of the club, making me have to keep regripping the club to avoid doing it…this has gone on for a decade and I can’t stop doing it…I switched this season to the shot scope and have only used the clubs on the range with the sensors in the clubs…1,000000 x better. We’ll see how the data and analysis part works when I start playing this season…

Well…in a few short words, I’m back to using Arccos…it’s just a better product in every way except the sensor sizes…I’m left handed but golf righty…the watch on my left hand just drove me nuts and with my 55 year old eyes, the screen and controls are just not very intuitive…kept getting caught on a menu and couldn’t figure out how to get back to the Home Screen….plus, the watch just feels cheap…the strap is annoying, and the clasp is bass-akwards as my dad would say…I will say I’ve used Arccos so long that it’s just second nature to me, so I’m sure there is a bit of can’t teach an old dog new tricks…but, if anyone is looking for a barely used Shot Scope X5, let me know!!

The sensors simply record what club you used, and where you were when you swung it. The only way it knows where the ball went is because you proceed to that location and swing again.

I love my H4 and the adjoining shot scope range finder. And shot scope tracks all my data and they do it for FREE which I truly love however their layout is very cartoonish and their is no place to record my launch monitor data like you can on Arccos also you link Arccos to Clippd to keep track of all your practice sessions. Now I also love Arccos as you can tell their website layout and data is top notch and again you can link it with Clippd to track your practice sessions. And the Apple Watch or the link makes it even better But I HATE SUBSCRIPTIONS that is my only down side to Arccos but. Also understand why. I the end I find that I am using the Arccos system far more than Shot Scope. Hope this also helps

The arccos problem is strokes gained and everything it tracks takes time to average out for your game. It doesn’t bring an immediate value. At least with shot scope you get the watch and get those benefits right away. So you’re subscribing for a phone app that isn’t providing useful data until you get 5 to 10 rounds into it. Which for some of us is all we get to play each year.

I find it baffling that the Garmin sensors don’t work with the G80. I have the G80 and an R10 and like them for what they are and I would have considered their sensors if they worked with the G80. I also have an Apple Watch and a previous gen of the Arccos Link that I use with it, too. I’ll keep it until it dies. I like having the watch on my wrist for quick distances and I’ll look at the phone if I’m not familiar with a course for hazard distances . I find their club recommendations hit or miss and usually club down from what they recommend. Also, you have to use the Link or Apple Watch if you want to listen to music on a BT speaker, so keep that in mind, too. I really like Arccos and think it is worth it, even with the subscription fees. Innovation is not free. If you want new features, you either have to tie them to hardware upgrades or you do a subscription. Developers are not free or cheap. Arccos has helped me focus on the weaknesses in my game and has made me a better golfer. I also like I it tracks all my shots and doesn’t give me a chance to cheat myself. I can now also tie it in to my USGA GHIN so it makes tracking my handicap automatic. The only thing I wish the Arccos app really had is greens contour data like the Garmin G80. If they had that, it would be perfect.
@breakingeighty8 ай бұрын
I get it, but I think there's 2 main reasons CT10 doesnt work with G80. 1) With the G80 being an older device, I jsut dont see them doing much to update it to make it work. If anything I'd imagine a follow up will come out soon if they think there's enough demand. 2) Most people arent playing with their G80 in their pocket, its attached to a cart and their bag. So due to the proximity necessary to accurately track, there would be too many missed shots. Not to mention much of the way the Garmin works is due to watch functions, like the built in accelerometer. The G80 doesnt have that - so again, tracking wouldnt really work very well (if at all).
@adventuresofsb6 ай бұрын
The argument for the link and no phone falls short when it comes to penalties and putts - as you still need to go back to your phone to add the penatly if you loose a ball OB and then again to check it added the puts correctly. Specially if playing with friends and you end up having some gimmie putts. It wont count those, then all of a sudden arccos thinks you're 1 putting and playing out of your mind. Also a side note that arccos does not work for night golf or even low light as the sensors need sunlight to be active.
