Just a correction - LMDh is Le Mans/Daytona Hybrid which is an attempt to combine the WEC and IMSA prototype categories, appeal to manufacturers who support both series, and allow IMSA teams and WEC teams to compete at Daytona/Sebring/Le Mans in the same categories. LMDh is essentially a step up from LMP2 and is the next evolution of IMSA's DPi regulations. These cars are required to be homologated on performance and do not require street legal versions to compete. The LM Hypercar regulations are what you are referencing and they do require 25 street legal prototypes, except Peugeot will be allowed to run a LMP1 car for the first year (after buying Rebellion racing) without needing to produce street legal prototypes.

Considering the patents and promo vid, I think this was intended to be Porsche’s road-legal-run-of-25 Hypercar to meet the requirements of the old Le Mans rules for 2021/22 (where 25 road legal versions of a racer had to be built for homologation). However, since these rules have since changed to incorporate the LMDh class - using spec chassis - Porsche unveiled teaser images of a Le Mans entrant for ‘23, but for the LMDh class. Since these don’t require a road legal version and are much cheaper to develop, this along with the pandemic, lead Porsche to pursue an LMDh car over this, an LMH car, since it’s miles cheaper and easier.

Like a manual transmission with ~1000hp? Don’t think it’s possible, the cluthes are already extremely heavy on supercars with ~600hp so they have resorted to only paddleshift autos

@@onelyone6976 It’s definitely possible. Nissan was making transmissions in the early 90’s that could handle 1600 crank horsepower (RS5R30A) reliably. The issue is finding the drivers who can handle that level of monstrous power without throwing it into a tree when releasing the clutch. On that point, I think you’re correct. Most modern drivers simply don’t have the skill to handle power levels that high with a manual transmission without extensive training. Perhaps they’ll make balsa paddle shifters instead. 😅

The LMDh class is also comprised with the LMH class. Both of these classes will race at the same time with very few differences. LMH is basically like LMP1 where you can basically build anything you want, while there is some restrictions for the LMDh such as chassis, and gearbox.

Idk, as of now, both Porsche and Audi have confirmed the their chassis r gonna be from Multimatic, so if Porsche and Multimatic work closely together, they could potentially actually make the car. Depending if Audi and Porsche have different designs, which I assume they would, plus I’ve heard they aren’t working real close together, so depending if Porsche decides to go with this, Multimatic builds the chassis, Porsche does what they do to the car, we could see Roger Penske Porsche 917 running the Rolex 24, 12 Hours of Sebring and of course Le Man 24 Hours. That would just be wicked!

The LMDh was presented at the Goodwood FOS. They will make a few units of this as the regulation stipulates. We'll see what happens

Is Porsche working on a new hypercar? Most probably! Is it the one featured in the 2019 video and the one discussed in the video? Highly unlikely. Why? It was a concept and there is a full size model inside the Porsche museum. Porsche would never EVER put a future model for anyone to walk around and take pictures of, let alone a hypercar.

Never say never, especially when the occasions have ALREADY happened. 918 was firstly shown only as a concept at Geneva motor show on March 2010. Plenty of photos were taken by journalists and the spectators around the car at the motor show. Even Porsche haven’t decided to make the 918 into production back then. Three months later, Porsche approved the further development of the car because of the high interests from buyers. And the production began much later in 2013. Similar situations for mission E concept and Taycan. As a matter of fact, many of the Porsche models was hinted by a concept car years before they announced the production, even 911. With that being said, I do agree that it’s very likely they are developing new hypercars and it’s unlikely to look like this 917 concept. But for entirely different reasons, mostly from design and engineering point of view.

@@scratchy996 Not really, Tesla made it look like that but Taycan proved otherwise and Lotus Evija will showcase what a hypercar level is, of course not as fun as petrol cars but far from boring in fact they provide different experience so for owners they will love it cause they already own petrol cars! Having to switch between electric and petrol hypercars make you appreciate both more. Keep in mind next Porsche hypercar will be Hybrid not electric (mark my words)

The Porsche 917 Living Legend patent is apparently meant for Gran Turismo. The car was supposedly going to be in GT Sport within last year, but because it didn't happen, it will likely be saved for GT7 instead. Apparently, because of a unique partnership, the 917 Living Legend will be a Gran Turismo-exclusive Porsche, and will also come with Porsche's own yet-to-be-seen Vision GT car by then.

Back in the day.....a big "problem" was having the driver's feet out further forward than the axis line between the front wheels. It was a safety concern....enough so....that the 956 racing car was lengthened a few inches to create the 962....and thereby comply with the new safety rules that demanded the front feet behind the front wheels' centerline. Looking at this car....it seems impossible for the feet to be behind the front wheel centerline..... right? The greenhouse is "very" far forward.........

Porsche have confirmed LMDh. But this formula is based on chassis supplied by 4 constructors. Dallara, Multimatic, Ligier, and Oreca. This would not be eligible.

The old 917 was a 180 degree V-12 / flat -12 ... but putting two 6 cylinder 911 "Boxer" motors together.....with a main bearing between each cylinder longitudinally...would make the already long old 917 engine even longer.....and with that...introduce even more complications that needed to be addressed on the old engine.

Well at least they will do Le Mans and Daytona again in the top class. But they will use a chassis from Dallara, Oreca, Ligier or Multimatic, because they will go in the LMDh class and not the LMh class, so they won't use a chassis of a production car. We need to wait and see if they will still build it.

the Porsche 917 has a 12-cylinder boxer engine, it is not V 12, the pistons have their own crankpins, which is not the case on V engines, hence the name boxer Too bad, they put a V 8, it is only a "copy" ... it will never have the sound of the 12 cylinder boxer
