This album is by far the best album I've heard from them in a long time. Not one bad song. I Headbanged to this one so much. One of their best.

I saw the their Wacken livestream, and they played ‘The Watcher’ live for the first time. You are 100% right about that song. And ‘Eye of the Storm’ is heavier live!

It is a great metal album but nowhere near as melo-death as their first several albums and that’s where I am disappointed. Tracks like “Handshake with Hell” and “The Watcher” are the only tracks that sound just as epic as “Burning Bridges”, the rest is a mixed bag to me.

Sounds like it's going to be great. Add 'The Watcher' from Wacken and I've already heard over half and I like what I've heard! I also love the brief moments of Alissa's clean singing and wish for more. I guess the band feel it would change the core sound too much.

I am still waiting for my CD copy. Kind of worried,though-is it possible that this is going to be the "softest"' AE album so far? The last ''soft"' melodic death metal approach was on KAOS Legions ,the band got heavier again when Alissa stepped in but now I think they are leaning once again towards this familiar 'soft" side of their music. It doesn't have to be a bad thing but I sort of miss times when AE were literally violating my anus with the raw power of melodic death metal.
@APREACTS2 жыл бұрын
It does have a more melodic, heavy metal undertone to it. That is clear, but it still bangs!

He only does like two solos and just mostly chugs, I mean, it sounds heavy but super repetitive. Jeff Loomis needed more shine, idk what Alissa’s problem is with the song writing.

I am a huge Arch Enemy fun.I adore the old albums of Angela era and Wages of Sin is one of my ten top death metal albums of all time but a band must evolve and i think that Deceivers is doing just that and it's doing it perfect.It's their best work since Doomsday Machine and absolutely the best of Alissa era.I've been listening to it two months now.Jeff Loomis can offer much more than he does (maybe he will in the future) My rating would be 4/5 and i honest believe that is the best metal album of 2022 untill now.

Thanks for this review that mostly goes conform with my first listening too. I may review some of the reviews here ... It may is typical for nowadays reaction that you only write something when you don't like it? I read a few comments here: Complaining about Alissa (or AE) not doing more cleans Complaining about Alissa (or AE) to have gotten softer, even complaining about Angela (the former singer - decades (it feels) ago) and praising their first singer Complaining about this, complaining about that In the meantime this album explodes on first place around every Heavy Metal billchart worldwide, "The Eagle Flies Alone" heading to 100 (!) Million views in KZbin, their concerts are sold out months ago. If you read all the comments you are wondering if someone really like them? I - for myself - enjoy music and (as still being critical) have come to the point, that Arch Enemy raised their popularity (even WITH Alissa White-Gluz ;) ) in an enourmous way. As "poisoned arrow" with that comes the various expectations from different directions. You can't satisfy them all! One side wants an unplugged clean-singing campfire Arch Enemy, the other wants something in the direction of Once Human or Jinjer (but of course without cleans!) - I'm more than certain Arch Enemy would be able to deliver both but have to find a way between to satisfy most of their listeners.

I want so badly to like modern Arch Enemy...but it just does not click for me. And it's largely Alyssa's vocals, though not only that. To be clear up front, I liked most of the Angela material too, but the Arch Enemy I REALLY enjoyed was the earlier albums with Johan Liiva on vocals. Not just do I feel his vocals fit the band's sound better, but I think they were hungrier and wrote better material back then. That and having both Amott brothers on guitar simultaneously was excellent. I also just feel that Michael Amott has been writing the same AE song with some variation over and over again since at least Chaos Legion too. They have an amazing musician in Jeff Loomis with them now, they should really let him do some writing. I think it'd freshen up their sound quite a bit. Every time they put out a new album I try and always end up disappointed. I have to accept that the Arch Enemy I really enjoy is just dead and gone. I guess I can still hope that Black Earth actually releases a full album one year.

I have to say I disagree about their approach to releasing half the album as singles. As an album person I don't want to have most of the album spoiled pre-release by having half the songs be singles. 2-3 singles max imo is the way I personally prefer it. With that said this album is great. Best in the Alissa era imo.
