I went to a Death Angel, Anthrax, and Slayer concert recently, and I had the privilege to experience the mosh pit for the first time. Keep in mind I am a 5'7 112 lb male, and I had the best experience in the pit. I fell down a few times, and not only did everyone pull me back up, literally everyone in the pit threw me back up, and I was hyped to keep going and enjoy that experience.

Ive never been in a pit but i was on the edge of one helping people back up on their feet. I feel metal concerts are the best to go to. Most friendly environment to be in. A couple times just me walking ive accidently bumped into huge dudes bigger than me and the are hammered and they apologize. People say not to take kids to metal concerts but ive seen people do awesome things for kids at them.

Went to a Children Of Bodom concert a few month ago. Parents brought their kids and they (the kids) were standing between us and the band. The band literally played for them. They received a ton of signed stuff. Another show (Slayer this time) I witnessed: there was a tiny boy standing just next to me, close to the middle-front of the stage... protected by a 200kg stranger who kindly offered the kid's dad to look after his son during the show so he could enjoy it from here. I can assure you that no one managed to accidentally hurt him.

In response to the second sentence in that comment, because of that I honestly think the interviewers that do that, are doing it on purpose. If that's their objective then it's pathetic.

Moshing; the release of aggression in a positive environment. It's rough play in a dance while the blood is pumped by the music. You're not out to hurt, someone falls, you pick them up, and at the ends you shake hands and growl like savages in appreciation. \m/ Metal

the rule number 1 should be, if the people are trying to see the show DON'T MOSH THERE.... move away or go home. People pay money to see the show. If it is just to listen the music you can do it outside. Mosh pit may funny but don't include the others who are just trying to see the show.

I love the feeling that people are like a huge family there just letting go of all their worries. Sometimes someone might get hurt but people usually are there to help, getting them up and most of the time people keep going. I think in that way moshpits are like accepting life with its ups and downs in a smaller scale. Just do what you want to do, party, have fun and keep going no matter what happens.

I live in Brazil. I don't know how it was in other countries in the early years of heavy metal. But I started listening to metal in 1991. Some metal friends of mine are from the 80's. And this moshpit, for me and for those friends, was an exclusive punk or hardcore thing. On metal shows we would only bang our heads. Just like that. It was an amasing thing to look around and see waves of hair up and down. Personaly I don't like moshing. Nowadays I prefer to find a spot and just pay attention to the band. I think I'm getting old. lol

Same here man. Metal dancing is really headbanging. Moshing is different. Yes it can look cool but if you are in a show you should be looking to the stage, listening the music, etc, not fearing for your life because some dudes decided to start pushing and shoving everyone around them...

Been listening to metal my whole life and still can't find the pleasure in moshing. I pay god money and travel hundreds of kilometers to a show to listen to a band perform live, not get bumped by sweaty men, smelling of beer. I hate it when I have to watch my sides for "moshers" instead of just watching the band and enjoying the show.

Yes! I was recently at my fourth Maiden gig, and a person who's seen them for the first time kept asking why people aren't moshing. I don't get it. Maybe I'm weird, but when I go and see a a live show, I actually like to watch and see as much as I can instead of being focused on something like moshing, that I wouldn't even remotely want to do and don't get the appeal of, and have always been told it's a punk thing, anyway.

At the risk of sounding a thousand years old; I must say the vibe is very different now as opposed to what it was like during the Punk/Thrash crossover days. I can remember the exact year the pit became the fashionable place to be; when testosterone-infused jock dickholes started to show up at shows. 1990. Yep, the dreaded Black Album became the gateway for a lot of jokers who had zero knowledge of the scene, it's history, and the respect for the unwritten code of conduct at a show. Suddenly, these clowns were there; going out of their way to hurt people. Their interpretation of the energy manifested itself as violence for it's own sake; NOT as a communal aggression release as it had previously been. They were clueless about picking up the fallen, looking out for each other, and how to SHARE the floor. Over the ensuing years, I have observed this perversion of the pit become the norm, rather than the exception. Of course there are those that will chime in with "Our scene promotes a positive energy" or "I've been in a hundred pits, and no-one behaves like that...or they get thrown out" etc, etc And certainly those are also valid experiences; cool your shows are working out. BUT, I'm only qualified to speak on what I've seen first hand at more shows than I can remember...and in my educated opinion, mosh pits never recovered from what they once were. M.
@thorthunderlungs5171
@thorthunderlungs5171 8 жыл бұрын
100% correct. I gave up the pits when I started hearing 20 year olds running their necks while waiting in line to get into shows about "I'm gonna fuck someone up." Then their buddies all cackle and hi 5 each other. Then these same assholes stand around the circle and throw blindside punches at the actual moshers. Fucking bullshit. I do admit that in 96 at Lolapalooza one of these little bastards got his just reward from myself and my buddy during a huge pit during Soundgarden. Let's just say his dentist was a busy fella. Never had any issues with these kind of douchebags at Morbid Angel or Pantera shows. Always very respectful. I've been in some fucking insane pits but they were back in the day and I never truly feared for my safety.
@Gonboo

It really all depends on the bands you see and where you see them. I live in the Bay Area and if you go to a metal concert around here its usually a positive experience. There are no jocks and other than a few drunken dicks here and there everyone looks out for one another.
@thorthunderlungs5171
@thorthunderlungs5171 8 жыл бұрын
Seamus McFlanery I always had nothing but good experiences in the Bay and Sacramento. The only time I ever had an issue was Lolapalooza in San Jose in 96. But I have to admit that it was maybe 2 or 3 little dickheads out of thousands. I did get drilled blind in the back once at Korn/Metallica at Arco Arena in 97 but it wasn't a huge deal. I caught the kid right after and let him know it would be very wise to not do it again or he'd get carted out in a bucket. I'm 6'5", 220. He took me at my word. Smart kid. The bloodiest show I ever went to was Sublime in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 95. So many broken noses. It was dumb as fuck. Great show but kinda out of control. Brad died 5 months later.
@DreamPurpleFloyd
@DreamPurpleFloyd 8 жыл бұрын
I fully agree. Small local venues almost always have a more friendly audience that care about mosh pit etiquette. And I've also observed that more mainstream acts draw more assholes that are only willing to hurt others. I've seen Sylosis opening for Children of Bodom and even though the two mosh pits happened at the same place and the same night, the mood couldn't have been more different. During Sylosis moshers were more energetic yet more careful (ie instantly picked people falling), while the COB mosh pit consisted of a lot of punchers and drunk guys...
@thorthunderlungs5171
@thorthunderlungs5171 8 жыл бұрын
***** I've always seen the small venues as a place where the crowd tends to police itself much more stringently. Probably due to proximity I guess. Big shows make it easier for the douchebags to melt back into the crowd and hide. Most of the death metal shows I've been to have been in tiny places like the Boardwalk in Sacramento and what is now known as the Knitting Factory in Boise, Idaho. These shows are always good, clean experiences. The El Dorado Saloon in Sac is another. I caught several shows there including Suicidal Tendencies and Machine Head with a badly torn ligament in my foot with absolutely zero problems being in the mix. Well, except for the fucked up foot, of course. I was young and dumb once. Good days.

Alyssa is great in more ways than one. Always enjoy her interviews, and the ones on this channel are often better than elsewhere. I must admit that the thumbnail with beautiful Alyssa and the word "Banger" in the same frame made me feel fuzzy inside.

Andy, because we aim to make the subject look as good as possible in our set ups. What Sam looks like is usually behind-the-scenes or edited out in our actual docs, but these "Raw and Uncut" interviews are presented...raw.

Beside that obvious fact that she looks good anyway, I think it was a wise choice to film her that way even though Sam had to cover his eyes, the shot looks absolutely stunning. With the city in the background, the sun rays and the glow they produced. Amazing cinematographic look.

What BANGER said...you always put talent with the sun behind them. The glow from the backlighting always looks good and they aren't squinting the whole time. Who cares what he looks like he's just asking questions lol!

moshing is its own self governing chaos and its such a great experiance. i will say though i have watched massive pits stop dead just because somone went down. or holes form when people get injured. i personnaly have never been on the ground for more than a second without having 3 sets of hands pulling me up and another 2 to ask if im good. its such an amazing community and i love it

Awesome interview! I am not into moshing myself because I am disabled and have balance problems when standing for long periods of time. This is why I avoid going to concerts. If I were at a concert, I would rather watch it and take it all in.

***** There is no wrong way to mosh as long as you're not trying to hurt people intentionally. Moshing is about having fun and enjoying the music and expressing that by getting "aggressive". No such thing as a "REAL" pit. There's the fun pits and the ugly pits that start fights.

i tore my mcl moshing right before her show while cattle decapitation was playing during the summer slaughter tour in 2015. some 400 pound guy tackled me headfirst into my knee from the side. he knocked himself out, and they dragged me away, never saw him again. when arch enemy came out i could barely stand but still got to see them perform and it was awesome :) couldnt walk for a month after.

God shes beautiful both inside and out. The interviews she gives definitely to me define her as a remarkable person. Her beliefs, what her message is.... she's more than a singer, shes a role model for the youths of metal. Plus she roars like the best of them! Now I'm not taking anything away from Angela but they Arch Enemy for sure picked a great lead female singer (roarer?) Lol I just enjoy her energy compared to when Angela was the front woman. Respect to all the female metal ladies.... it's gotta be hard for them in a male dominate industry. But she does it with grace and with an ass kicking voice.

As a long time rock and metal fan, I have never been into moshing. I've always felt that the mosh pit was rather pointless. I appreciate people who are into it, but I have also observed over the many concerts I've been to, that it often kind of goes against the whole point of being at a concert: to watch the band and enjoy the music. I've never liked being mashed and knocked around by a crowd of people, personally, and the pits themselves are more often than not overtaken by drunken assholes who have a chip on their shoulder and are looking to get away with hurting people. Me? I'd rather find a good seat somewhere and just WATCH the concert, and enjoy myself.

I've been in many bands, so most of my perspective of moshing is from watching from on the stage. It has never looked fun. I moshed at a Slayer show when I was 14, and the next day I felt like I had been through a 12 round heavyweight fight. I pay good money to watch the band play the music that I like, not to get beat up.
