Awesome video! One thing I learned while doing my first arch install the other day, sometimes the computer's wifi card is blocked by default and you will get something like "no station for wlan0", so before using iwctl run the command "rfkill unblock wifi" idk if anyone else had this problem, but I thought I'd put it out there just in case

You can use systemctl on multiple services with one command, for example systemctl enable NetworksManager bluetooth cups sshd lightdm I tried it out. The only downside is that it might be more cumbersome to read the output because you have so many lines in a row. The visudo file is not space-sensitive, you can just remove the # and leave the space.
@eflinux3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter, I know, but in videos for clarity I rather do them separately as well as the spaces in files. Personal preference as well :)

i am coming back to linux after years of brake from it. Main reason is because I started using my old laptops again. I have always done partitions this way. boot, swap, root and home. A video on how to make a new install, but keeping home partition would be nice. I think I understand how it would go about. Like a normal install but you keep the /home partition and mount it again? great videos as always

Did a couple dozen beta installations recently. Some used reiser. It behaves like ext4 in Calamares. I also did some btrfs installations. It doesn't directly allow multibooting afaict, but it does allow for sub-volumes, and that is precisely where I stopped beta testing. :) Have you thought about doing a video on the major advantages and limitations of the various file systems? I searched a fair bit on btrfs, and most results addressed dual-booting with WIndoze only, while two separate Linux iso's is a bit of a needle in a hay stack.

That's a great idea. The topic is huge though, and also, I don't have experience with all FS available, but maybe with the most commons.

What exactly do you need xdg-utils and xdg-user-dirs for? I did not notice any problems without either of these tools (dwm). I looked it up, apparently it does something while creating the user-folders and it is involved in a desktop-integration but that is awfully vague.
@eflinux3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter! User directories, can be useful in a DE as well as in a WM, but it's not strictly necessary.
@peterjansen48263 жыл бұрын
@@eflinux But what is the difference compared to when the user makes those diretories himself?

Let's say you create a new user in the system with "useradd -m username". The m switch creates the home directory with all directories automatically added.

I edited lightdm.conf to use bspwm user session. The strange thing is if i configure .xinitrc and run startx, everything is working fine. I have also tried creating ~/.xprofile and starting bspwm from there but it didnt work.
@eflinux3 жыл бұрын
I assume you are on Arch. Make sure you add your graphic card in the modules section of the mkinitcpio.conf file (for intel: i915, for amd:amdgpu, for nvidia: nvidia). Then recreate the image.

@@eflinux It still didn't work. Weird thing is i have tried everything including a vanilla arch install, endeavour os base install, arco linux base install and then their scripts but the problem is the same. It must have something to do with VirtualBox. I read that the drivers of Virtualbox are just virtual drivers of the host pc. So since i've got an AMD cpu + gpu, i should still choose amdgpu drivers on installation right? Anyway, I guess im going to depend on xinit for the boot with no display manager.
