That blinking input cursor summons many memories ) It blinks in so old fashion way.. PS Thank you very much for swaymsg. I looked for something to rotate my screen under wayland as xrandr does. Now I think I can use wayland with my Raspberry Pi -) PSS I would be nice to see something about using sway with high DPI settings. For me personally this is a show stopper. Now I do not use any WM/DE and run Plex Player with xserver directly. But to have a full power of WM/DE in some case isn't a bad idea I think.

I recently did the installation in this video, except I did NOT install a display manager (ly). After logging in, I just run sway and it "starts" Wayland. My question is, can I also install X (xorg) with BPSWM and then after logging in I can either run "startx" to use X and BPSWM, or run "sway" to run Wayland with sway? Will this work? Or will there be some kind of conflict preventing it from working? I ask because I occasionally use skype and it doesn't seem to work on Wayland.

I don't see why it shouldn't work , although I've never tried this setup.

In a previous video you showed how to install bspwm on arch without a display manager. As I recall, this was done by installing xorg-init, adding “exec bspwm” to the .xinitrc file and then running startx to start x, which also starts bspwm. That is how I have it set up on one of my laptops. I’m going to put Wayland/Sway on my other laptop. Is there a way to do something similar with Wayland/Sway that doesn’t use the console display manager Ly?
@eflinux3 жыл бұрын
Not that I’m aware of, but maybe someone in the community has another idea.
@randallpaulallen55383 жыл бұрын
@@eflinux I can't believe how simple this was. I simply disabled ly and restarted. After logging in, I just ran sway (like I run startx on my laptop with BSPWM) and sway starts up. It's as simple as that. On another note: input type:keyboard{ xkb_layout br } didn't work for me. I got an error message that it was expecting two parameters and got only on. What worked for me was replacing "type:keyboard "with "*" as in: input * { xkb_layout "br" } which I found on the Sway page of the Arch wiki.

If I have multiple distros installed, do I need separate swap partitions for each of them? I know we can skip swap altogether but does each distro need its own swap partition or can they share one? I am thinking so cuz for my noob-logic swap is like RAM on HDD.
@randallpaulallen55383 жыл бұрын
I have had triple-boot systems (Windows and 2 Linux distros). The 2 Linux distros used the same swap partition. The only warning I'd give, is that after you make the swap partition for the first installation, do not alter it (for example, change its size) in any way when installing the second distro.

Makes sense to do only one swap, as only one system is running-suspended at a time.

Hello sir, I wanted to address something regarding the Windows 10 + Arch Linux dual boot video from a while ago. The thing is, Windows creates a 100 MB EFI Partition by default which is definitely insufficient for using additional kernels, some GRUB themes and Plymouth. I don't think the dd method for creating swap is necessary anymore. I'm not 100% sure but there were some issues with it and the dd method was useful earlier but now u can just create a swap for UEFI as u did for the MBR partition
@eflinux3 жыл бұрын
I think you’re referring to the fallocate method. That is not used anymore. The ed method is recommended by the Arch Wiki. You can of course create a swap partition instead.
@randallpaulallen55383 жыл бұрын
@@eflinux I am curious why you used a swap PARTITION for the MBR installation, but a swap FILE for the uefi installation. I found the following quote while doing some research, but since it is rather old (from 2016), I'm curious if it is stll applicable. Since I'll be installing on a uefi laptop and I'll want to suspend/hibernate at times, I'm leaning toward a swap partition, but again, I'd like to know if suspending is still impossible with a swap file. QUOTE: "The only thing to add here is that if you machine is configured to "suspend to disk" what is actually happening is that stuff in memory is written to swap. For this to work, the swap must be on it's own partition as the swap can't be on an active filesystem for this to happen. Therefore, if you have a server, you probably don't use this feature and could happily use a swap file. If you have a laptop, you probably do want a swap partition so you are able to "suspend to file" for hibernation."
@eflinux3 жыл бұрын
There is actually not a particular reason, but generally on systems with enough Ram a swapfile is saving space and has the advantage to be deleted and recreated if you need a different size.

Hi Ermanno, thank you for your video. I am not sure why but the mouse pointer does not seem to appear after I load up Sway. I have also installed it in the Virtualbox. I have tried to use the fix command given in the sway wiki but nothing happens. Also, the command swaymsg -t get_outputs doesn't work. It returns "Unable to retrieve socket path". The fix written in the wiki doesn't work either. It would be really nice if you provide a little help here. Thanks Ermanno! Keep up the good work. @EF - Linux Made Simple. Oh God man why are you complicated not necessary installation Archlinux. This video is for very high skill Archlinux users not newbie. Bugs: 1) You using git - only more complicated installation but no need it. 2) you using strong non standard packager "paru" not default pacman. 3) In your material can't find information how you installled boot loader MBR/EFI! You show a lot of unnecessary things by unnecessarily complicating a fairly simple installation process. Ask yourself, who are you directing these inexperienced or advanced videos to? I bet beginners won't even understand half of these things why you do them. This is the most complicated Arch Linux install I've seen in >>10 years of playing with arch. Overall score 2/5 - material only for professional Arch users. I included this material because I was looking for an EFI installation but I did not find it in your material how did you install it? You left out the most important things.
@eflinux Жыл бұрын
I’ve done tons of installations in different styles. Some of them are more complex than others, but I have some on the channel geared to a more classical approach of installing arch.
