Als zum Fussstart alternative Hangstartart bietet der Rollstart mit Gummiseil grosszügige Möglichkeiten. Es sind sichere Starts von sehr flachen Hängen oder bei genügend Neigung auch bei leichtem Rückenwind möglich. Zwei verschiedene Seillängen erweitern die Einsatzmöglichkeiten zusätzlich. Der Archaeopteryx ist ein vielseitiger high-end Hängegleiter in Segelflugzeugkonfiguration mit aussergewöhnlicher Steigfähigkeit. Konzipiert ist er für den Fussstart von Berghängen sowie für eine Vielzahl weiterer Startarten wie Gummiseilstart vom Berg oder Auto-, Winden-, Flugzeug-, und UL-Schleppstarts von Flugplätzen.

Nice looking aircraft! I normally fly a Pilatus B4 and a Combat154 Hang glider. The bungee launch looks okay. I've done a 'gravity B4 launch from Cross Fell, via Eden Soaring..

Folks here complaining about the price fail to realize the engineering that went into its design and its costs. This aircraft was designed to stretch every ft-lb of strength out of its very expensive carbon composite construction so that it is light enough to be footlauchable, yet have the flight characteristics of a full size sailplane; hard to do!! From what I recall, it took many years to design and test flight. Laying up carbon composite molds is time consuming and expensive in itself. What was achieved in the design is quite remarkable. No other hang full axis enclosed cockpit footlaunchable glider has achieved what was built into this marvel of engineering! The only other competitor would be the Swift; another fine design (flying wing). $100k is a lot of money, but what you are getting is the most advanced hang glider/sailplane on the market, achieving flight characteristics never before seen in this category of aircraft. It is a breathtaking beauty. Kudos to all who designed and built it!!

I don't understand how they can justify the price tag of 100 thousand dollars for the base model on these. I mean, seriously, I could buy a good, used Cessna 172 and still have enough left over for fuel and hangar fees for two years.

Maybe you’re referring to the enclosed-cockpit model? According to the website, the open-cockpit version, as flown by the female pilot in this video, is called the “Standard” and costs €62,000, which is approximately US$69,000.

This aircraft is expensive because it's precision hand-built at very small production rates. If there were a few hundred orders a year, the price would drop dramatically. If only it were so!
