Unearthing Italian WW1 Trenches: Archaeological Discovery of Significant Howitzer Position

Archaeologists and volunteers have recovered the trenches of the Italian stronghold from World War I at Dosso Merlo, on Lake Garda. The archaeologists have also uncovered the story of a position of a large 305/17 howitzer nicknamed "Vulcano," which worked in tandem with a heavy-caliber naval cannon, dismounted from a battleship like the Cavour and repositioned on land, by the lakeshore.
