Last time I did a campaign with her (a Vortex mind you), after I cleansed the whole Araby of every single undead (and rats) present and settled at Settra's (heh) capital, I decided to go full Deus Vult on high elves, because I figured the pointy ears were rich and I wasn't. Turns out the IA Malekith had the same idea, so we actually divided Ulthuan in two before making peace and we went on eradicating the lizards instead. At this point I was rocking four armies entirely full of Grails Knights and Guardian, while Repanse was carrying the Sword of Khaine. And no, Repanse isn't bothered by a sword that incite mindless carnage. She can't hear it over her Lady asking pretty much the same.

Pretty much, yeah. The Hundred Years war was less a war between nations than it was a long series of violent bickering and power play between related ruling houses and dynasties. Frankly most of the wars in medieval Europe were that.
@broadbandislife
@broadbandislife 3 жыл бұрын
@@Khenfu_Cake Not like "nations" in any modern meaning existed yet anyway. The HYW did more or less kickstart the early developement of separate "French" and "English" identities though, both because the ruling classes of the regions started seeing themselves as distinct from each other over the course of the whole mess and due to the practical geopolitical fact that by the end the English had been conclusively kicked off the Continent and were thus free to sink into total island mentality without distractions. (Technically they hung on to Calais for about a century longer, mostly because neither the French nor the Burgundians could be arsed to finish off that toehold, but same difference.)

A thing about Bretonnia's name because it was mentioned at the start: Bretonnia's name is based off the French Bretagne, this is the name for the most Northwestern province of France (Brittany). However, the etymology of Brittany and Britain are linked: In French, Britain is referred to as Grande Bretagne to distinguish it from Brittany, and Brittany is sometimes referred to as Little Britain. That's where you get 'Great Britain' from, Great is referring to its size relative to Brittany not its prestige. TL;DR Britain/Bretagne refers to two different places, one of which is in France, and this is where the name comes from.

Also a lot of Bretonian region are based on real French place. Like Moussillion =Languedoc-Roussillion Lyonesse=Lyon.

@Cody Bonds, hey if you are planning to do Count Noctilus, you should call him Saltbeard constantly, i played a 2 player campaign as him and both of us never referred to him by his real name. Only ever called him Saltbeard, it was great.

Bretonnia is from Breton (people of Bretagne in France) , Lyonesse from Lyon, Artois, Aquitaine, Carcassonne are the same in France, all the culture characters and cities are from France not England. Besides, England is somehow already a French version of Anglo-saxons. Henri le Massif is Joan's famous compagnon La Hire

I would imagine Bretonnia is a reference to Britanny, which, while I stand in solidarity with the Breton people, is a region noticeably more French than England/Britain.

Joakim Ängehult Nah, Louen is quite open-minded for a Bretonnian. He was the one to ally with Karl Franz when the rest of their respective kingdoms called them heretics/traitors for doing so.

It's fantasy, if this were 40k then that would and has happened. There have been times were lowly people lead their planets and the imperium to victory and claimed to have been spoken to by the emperor or sometimes even prove it with golden anti deamon light yet the imperium has just executed them anyway

IIRC the king at the time was Louis the Young who was barely 12. He succeeded his father Louis the Bold who true to his name went against the beforementioned Chaos Lord without much hope for victory.

Bretonia could also be a reference to Bretange (Brittany in English) in Western France.... people from there are called Bretons so it does seem the most likely inspiration
