As a note, I want this nerfed. Ive complained about Archers for a very long time, since last year in March 2020 when I started playing the Alpha. If you dont like this, speak up. If you think Archers are overpowered, say something. This match is horrible. If you see someone who doesnt think Archer is unfair, send them this video. I am not an Archer player, I am a Melee player. I do not enjoy Archery, I do not practice Archery, I am not even that good at Archery. Imagine what a dedicated Archer player will look like with 1000 hours under his belt. Fix this.

Easiest nerf for them to do is just not give archers a secondary weapon... This won't fix the inherent issue but at least itll make the archers much easier to kill when you coordinate and peel for them. Best nerf would be to adjust the damage or make a way to block the arrows imo.

The best is when you're winning a 1 v 3 or more, landing hits, blocking hits, only a few more hits and they'll all be dead. Block. Counter. Riposte. Block. One down.. Two left. Another one joins, you block and counter attack as a 4th enemy joins in the attack. They're flailing everywhere, hitting each other. You've got this. *Archer completely ignores the other 31 targets available, sees 5 of his teammates attacking one guy. Takes aim at point blank range and shoots you, stealing the kill, ruining the fight for both sides and just being the scum that they are. Knights dueling knights should be minimally affected by basic arrows

So all the times an actual new player archer would have died he lives because of how much melee experience he has. It'd be just like if I had 5k hours as an archer I'd have been in melee enough I would not be a new player at melee. Hell in my first 20 hours in the game I actively would go into melee with archer when it came up on shuffle because at close ranges melee is simply a way easier kill on enemies than bow. I just flank the guy hitting my team mate and kill them. And I've outfought 3 vs 1 before as Archer in melee. So yeah, pretending that his archer being level 0 means he's having the same experience as a new archer is stupid AF. He could go in there as melee archer and prolly top scores.

Sniper shootouts among competent archers is a waste of time. With dodge you are nearly immune from ever getting shot as archer 1v1 at distance. Bad archers will sit there and take the hit, but that shouldnt be the common thread; you are more helpful to your team by taking down melee.

id like to see crossbow require one of those clunky reloaders instead of the spur-and-yank method. Make the crossbow user have to play a QTE style minigame where they reel in the string so that they cant just keep yeeting bolts across the map. Also remove the crosshair on all bowed weapons and give them sway that gets worse the longer you ADS. It was good enough for kingdom come deliverance, its good enough for chiv and if any archer gets a headshot without the crosshair and stamina sway id feel a lot less cheated because that actually takes skill

Short Sword on archer is kinda unnecessary. I feel bad when 3 people jump on me and I kill all three of them with an archer. Probably couldn't do that with a cudgel. I think the skirmisher class should one shot the other two archer classes. That way people would play skirm more often (less archers) and there's a class that now hard counters archers (less archers). That and maybe add like a timed way to stop arrows. Maybe the first second of a held block can stop an arrow/bolt.

Crossbow HAS TO one hit archers to the chest. Thats how it is in Chivalry 1 and it resulted in crossbowmen hard-countering archers. Basically crossbowmen should be counter-sniping the archers, therefore make the crossbow 1-hit against archers.

Way less damage on limb shots, slightly less on body shots, 12 bolts instead of 15, slower fire rate, fewer resupply crates and adjustments to the "deserting" distance. The worst feeling is catching up to an archer who is running away and not being able to kill him because he is in a safe zone you can't access. Either make us be able to go further to them or shorten the distance they have to be to the fight.

Honestly. You should be able to block an archers bolts just by holding parry. And if you use a shield and do it maybe you get a stamina boost for doing so. Archers are meant to shoot distracted opponents and slow them down. You’re so slow if you’re always tap blocking anyway

Frankly I think the best route to "fixing" archer is to make their gameplay match the complexity of other classes via new mechanics. Perhaps you load an arrow with M1 and have to draw it with the scroll wheel. Point is it should be more mechanically challenging to play archer.

What is nice is that shield can sometimes passively block arrows/bolts. You don't have to be holding it up all the time. I've blocked a surprising number of shots just carrying the darn thing.

Plays archer extremely well, with good aim, great positioning, great spacial and strategical awareness and impecable melee prowess when defending. I respect the hell out of this guy which is why I'm here but he's wrong about archers, and definitely does have a touch of elitism engrained into him which is likely a side effect of so much experience. Put the average player in his chair and let them play that exact game he played and they wouldn't have done half as well as he did. Nobody (at least not me) wants archers to be removed, but they are clealry not balanced because if someone that does not play archers (even tho he still is very good at the game in general) can pull this off, a player that mains archers for some time can do even worse than him and nobody can do anything about it. Of course the majority of archers suck, but that does not mean the class is balanced.

Theres good melee players that get ridiculous scores aswell even with this casual game. Archers in this game are fine just look in chiv1 archers they were truly broken. I played a lot of vanguard during beta and had no problem with archers, have been oscillating between archer and vanguard lately and I'm pretty fine about archers in general. People complain about sniper-like classes in any class based game from what I've seen. I haven't really died to archers that much because as it was said, they miss a lot, and if the archer is good, props to the player who is skilled.

The biggest threat to the xbow is the warbow. Decent archers on the other team really impede your performance as you have to seek out protection every time you reload. The warbow especially is dangerous as it one shots you. The thing about archers is that they have to be very good to rack up points. A mediocre archers will killed non stop, miss a lot and just overall useless. Its a powerful class but hard to play. Unlike the melee guy where they just swing around a lot and kill stuff, archers have to be surgical. They should not be nerfed, they are just really hard to play well.

if this game was trying to realistic i would get it... archers really WERE extremely powerful on the battlefield. however! they could be targeted and taken out of the fight. imagine if archers had limited spawns? like 2-3 spawns per crossbowman, one crossbow player per battle. 1 of the other archers per battle too, same spawns? edit: ALSO! make it so that when a player dodges, he becomes immune to arrows for the remainder of his dodge cooldown. you could also make it so that sields have an extremely large hitbox for arrows, in a plane in front of the shield to protect teammates in the area 2-4 metres behind wherever the shield is angled. for this, also allow sprinting with the shield up (even if its slowed sprint) and allow the shield to be held up without draining stamina unless a kick or heavy attack hits it. shields break anyways. you could also have shields automatically block arrows without user input! Archers are not overpowered, there is a little porblem with the physix because sometimes it feel like getting shoot by an cal.50 or something. But for example Archers are used in history to stop knights and cavallry. Longbows are able to penetrate the heavy armor of knights also xbows but not everytime its also possible that an arrow can bounce of…. The battle of Anzincourt is the best example. The well trained french elite knights got slaughtered by the english longbows.

Ok I seriously don't get why literally everyone keeps hating on archers in most games. Archers are only bad if the whole team spams them and just camps ppl but the game doesn't allow that what do you want them to do? Make archers do only 10 dmg? Would that make you happy? That would not be realistic in the slightest bit. Archers are a very important part of an army. Sure infantry is good for holding back the enemy but they lack in attack power (my definition of attack power is being able to do dmg without taking dmg your self.) That's where archers come in. A good amount of archers and a good amount of infantry and you can maul though the enemy just what this video shows. If the defenders were more organized with their defense, they could have won but you could barely see any enemy archers and the ones we saw were barely making a difference but this guy is very good and he was instrumental to the attackers push through the village. Hence his rank as number one. You think the attackers would be able to win if they went all archers??? You think they also would have won if they went all infantry? No cus then all the defenders would get shield and destroy them or most attackers would go archers. Which brings me to my second point. Shields can protect against bows but you have to be smart in order to use it effectively. You can't fight recklessly knowing an archer has a bow pointed at you. Fight infantry with your shield up and fight archers with your shield as well. The game evens says it. There is a counter to every weapon or tactic in the game. You just have to have enough braincells to discover and use it. Throughout history archers have been phenomenal to winning any type of engagement. Why do you think guns are now used instead of metal batons??? Which is better killing your enemy at a distance and win or letting him come close to you and duke it out where you could either win or lose??? Hand fought combat is rare now and only happens when guns are too big of a risk or the enemy is too close. No modern fighter or military would prioritize charging the enemy head on over destroying them at a distance. Just take a look at Desert Storm. American tanks used superior range to destroy Iraqi tanks than get in a dogfight with them and the one time they did get in a dog fight, their superior equipment decided the fate of the Republican Guard. Long story short, long range attack = definite win If you disagree I'm open to have a civilized discussion about it. Don't go raging in the reply section about how an archer killed you when you were about to kill someone. Edit: forgot to add this: Rangers are lone warriors who use stealth and bows to ambush their enemies and destroy them before the enemy knows what happened. Most times they worked either aline or in groups of 4-5 sometimes more but that's the most I know of. A group of veteran rangers could ambush and take out a small part of a army then hide and strike against and again and again. This type of constant dread of an ambush would severely affect a soldiers morale and effectiveness. Just a few men could take down an army all because of the bow.

I haven't found the archers to be broken, more so annoying as they kill me while i'm usually mid battle. I think you're a skilled player and the scoreboard confirms that, having an equally as skilled melee player would put them on the top of the board as well - that doesn't mean melee is broken. I think that people are overusing and undervaluing the word broken. Go into any game and I can guarantee you the top players are using melee and that the majority of the archers aren't top fragging. If archers were indeed "broken" then it would be safe to say most games would be AT LEAST 40-50% archers, which i haven't found to be the case at all.

If there's actually a statistical problem with archers and not just melee elitists opinion i could think of many possible ways to nerf it until it functions like desired in the statistics. 1: Lower accuracy *especially if the player isn't using a controller.* 2: Slower projectile speed. 3: Lower reload speed. 4: Less ammunition. 5: Damage depend (more) on range. All of these are directly related to how effective the weapon itself is and I've barely played the game yet so I'm not aware of what's already in there but if i mentioned something that isn't it would also function as a variable to consider when picking between weapons and would give more purpose to having a wider ranged selection like a short bow for rapid attacks in close range but inaccurate and high drop off in damage further away for example where a crossbow would be pretty much the opposite and why not add something fun like slings to shoot more blunt type of ammunition? But other than making the ranged weapon itself less effective there's possibilities for other changes, such as... 1: Although slower projectiles would make it easier to react and dodge in time i still think it shouldn't be impossible to block them too, but to remain somewhat realistic and fair though it would have to be very precise and therefore not particularly reliable. 2: Limit restocking somehow, my best idea is each spot having a finite amount or that it slowly fills up over time so there's not unlimited ammo available at all times especially if one or more archers stay in one spot. _(It could also motivate the use of different weapons if the pools of available ammo counted arrows and bolts separately. With the added purpose of slings that use iron balls or something instead, and a boon of the weapon could be that they can still use rocks when ammo run out but deal less damage.)_ 3: Give them less good secondary options, like just knives, hatchets and cudgels to still cover all damage types. I could probably come up with many more ways to balance the game but I think a combination of these things would be sufficient and also add to the game in a few ways like i mentioned.

the only thing i can think of is to make archery more like in kingdom Come: deliverence. remove the dot in the center of the screen and add a bit of wobble to the bow ( like sight sway in an fps) that gets worse when you stay drawn for too long. Ok the arguments in this video really don't make any sense to me. If someone got shot with an arrow in medieval times that was mist likely going to kill you either from the shot itself or an infection. Taking away an archers secondary weapon isn't enough??? So what why not take away their primary weapon as well. I'm sure that would appease y'all. Like just get a shield for God sake or better yet stay where archers can't see you. The solution as usual comes with, more realism, you can't legolas rapid fire a real war bow, like you can a childs sport bow. Same goes for a crossbow. The kinds of crossbows that punch through plate armor are not very nimble to reload. Double the reload time of both and you find a good balance.
