Have made Flemish strings for a long time with hit and miss results. Watched this, got my homemade board out and made up the nicest, tightest, most round string I’ve ever made. The 20-30 counter twist between loops was the key! Thank you.

Still. Chris made a gem series on making your own strings. I love bearpaw but 60 pounds for a piece of wood .. Gimme a break Unless they send Sandra to teach me and give me a rubdown after the session I ain't paying 60squid for a board. I love you Chris you saved me a bundle. Thank you mate. AX Xenios.

Fair point... But I got mine free ;) but no English instructions which wouldn't normally be a problem but it's slightly different to any of the other string boards I've used... What do you use buddy?

Grizz, I've never made a string. Only just started fletching my own arrows with a bear jig .. After watching Chris Billingsgates videos I am off to the hardware store to buy my board and nails. I ordered string and serving and a serving tool from 3Rivers .. Will practice with wool or string and see what comes of watching the videos. Would love a bear board however it's mad expensive .. Will try and keep ya posted.

There are markings on the right side of your string jig where you measured the end of the bundle from the nail to the lower marking to represent the length needed to make the bottom loop and then the upper loop. What are the actual measurements in inches or centimeters needed to make the right size lower and upper loops? Thanks, great video!

as per your video and the bearpaw string board instructions I have measured my string but string board seams to be 3 inches out! on the tape measure my string is most definitely 58 inches but the string board says 61 inches. do I just go by the string boards calibration to get the correct length?

i think i twist too hard. my 48" measurement yielded a 35" string. first try, im sure the 2nd or 3rd try could be a success :)
@Traveler211210 жыл бұрын
I have a question. When you take the string off the bow to measure it in the beginning. Does that tell you your bow length and not the string length. Because you measured it at 52 inches and that is the actual length of the Kiowa bow. A recurve string would be about 4 inches shorter than the bow I believe. Your translator says string length. Could you explain?
@michaelaskin704410 жыл бұрын
When they took it off at first and measured it, that was the bow length. But when making the string, it is made so that the string is longer than the bow length. So the 52 inches is the bow length.
@michaelandersen545310 жыл бұрын
Michael Askin I think you have that all backwards. string length is measured for the AMO of the bow not the length of the bow. recuves should be about 4" shorter than the AMO of the bow. The AMO of the bow is from string groove to string groove.

Beeswax works great for bowstrings, I might worry about that thread, if you are talking less than 50 lbs on the crossbow (more in "fun" territory than hunting) then it might be okay, but usually B50 dacron or other bow string specific material is used. The old English longbow makers used linen, but they REALLY knew what they were doing, and they had to.

look folks they are making it to complicated. Get a 2x4 at about 8-10 feet. Drive a nail in both ends. Run 18-20 strands around the nails. At one end seperate a loop. Then do an opposing twist for about 5-6" keep string from kinking. Next twist string and wax. Next measure to bow. Tie a timber hitch to bow notch. Then slip string loop on other notch. Make adjustments as needed. Keep it simple guys. This will go to 90lbs of draw weight. I call it the American simplified flemish twist.
