This has helped me tremendously! Learning how to hold my bow properly was a real game changer. My accuracy and consistency improved dramatically by changing my grip.

I remember you doing a previous video on grip and grip forming, decided to give it a shot. Took me a few days to get it dialed in... probably had one of the biggest impacts on my progression. I actually formed my grip so my middle finger has a contoured groove at the side of the bow grip. Bow is a Satori with wood grip, I ended up passing on the advice to another Satori owner, he had great results as well.

I'd love you to explain draw weight. What draw weight should you start on and how would you know as a beginner. And then when do you know you are ready to go up in draw weight and by how much?

Strangely, I've just started archery and focusing on barebow, I use a finger sling and push into the grip without curling any fingers around the handle. Just find it comfortable.

Jake ..loving your series of videos on Trad Archery Basics thank you for all the time and effort you put into producing these videos to help us . As a novice Instinctive Field and 3D barebow Archer I have found it a very steep learning curve this past year . I have bought several bows and built 6+ sets of wooden arrows in my search for a good setup and am still struggling to tune my arrows to my current Bow which is a 35# Ragim Wolf flatbow. Would it be possible to do a video on wooden shaft selection , building and testing of a set of wooden arrows suitable for a traditional bow like yours of say 35-40# shooting field /3D ? I'm sure that it would be a very welcome addition to your series especially by those starting out like me in Traditional Archery . There is so much conflicting information out there in books and on the internet ,its hard to find a clear comprehensive tutorial anywhere.

Thank you very much, I experimented elbow issues probably because I was gripping the bow after the release. Could be an idea to address the common health issues an archer can have, what are the possible causes and possible solutions. Thanks again for your great explanations.

What is your opinion about gripping traditional bows that have more of a straight, "Howard hill" style grip or even primitive self bows with a mostly round and straight profile(think a thick broom stick)?

Thanks, working on my grip and follow thru/finish. Recently purchased a Hoyt Arcos, factory grip ( I think it’s the high) is a love hate thing going on for me. I really really like the factory grip on my Excel riser. I have to try and find a aftermarket grip that mimics the excel.

Hi Jake, great Video! I have applied your tipps and that really helped me with some left/right inconsitencies. I also noticed that I may over rotate my elbow so that it also causes my bow shoulder to rotate forward. Any tipps on how much/ or not at all the bow should should /can rotate forward. Or how to find the correct position?

something new errr. introduction/overview of field/3d. especially when it comes to shooting slopes & high hanging targets (or low for that matter). I reckon all that's available to most of us is shooting a bale on a flat surface & wing it when it comes to field/3d archery.

Very informative. So I am a compound shooter looking to get my first recurve. Obviously I have been looking at a lot of riser and limb reviews and what I hear a lot is talk about the grip angle. Specifically about them being "higher" or more angled than typical compound bow grips which seems to put the riser pressure more into the webbing of the hand than a compound bow. Am I understanding that correctly? Personally I use a sling so never have issues with gripping and torqueing the bow but wonder how that will translate to a higher grip angle...if it does at all.

IDk wha happened but once at full draw, my 50 lb recurve slipped out my hand and came back in hit me in the face . Broke my glasses, almost broke my nose. In 3 years of shooing that has only happened to me once, but once was enough
@billj5645 Жыл бұрын
My recurve with a reasonable amount of stabilizers and weights didn't have much recoil so it was easy for me to keep from dropping it. But occasionally a string would break and this greatly increases the recoil and the tendency for the bow to come out of your hand. Originally I used a bow sling but gradually stopped using it. You didn't cover high grip and low grip, is that not a thing anymore? That used to be a choice that the archer made for their style.

Hi Jake, one issue I would like you to address is how do you decide on the draw weight of your bow so that you can still put in the same level of shot after a twelve dozen arrow round as you can after the first arrow?
