When I first shot a bow, I did so bare fingered. Then I used my yard work gloves. Then I learned and bought an actual shooting glove. Now I use a tab.

Cool thing about tabs is that you can use them on top of a glove, if it's really cold.

You wasted your money. Your fingers would have hardened to start with and a cheap construction glove works just as well if not better.

I've used these exact gloves, but in black. They do protect your fingers, but they wear out extremely quick. It's great for a Halloween or movie costume that you want to be functional, but buy a few pairs at once if you're going to be shooting regularly.

Love this I found that welders gloves can work if you modify them into the archery style there good and heavy so they handle wear but need to be tailored down for better accuracy in use also just like a baseball glove use leather care products that keep the glove in good condition for years just sad I lost mine and not had opportunity to make another pair But I do love that this has come up seen folks try light gloves with heavy pull and tried to worn them it won’t feel good but they learned their lesson

As a seasoned motorcyclist, I'm pleased by this video; I have a number of "no longer waterproof" leather gloves that fit well and are "broken in". As a complete novice I'm struggling with tactile feedback with any archery specific finger protection I've tried, but my "leaky" 2004, now relegated to "summer slip on gloves", are prefect as far as I can tell. The reason I'm pleased is I no longer feel stupid for using them. Now All I need is a "Are old racing leathers a suitable replacement for an arm guard?" positive video result, then I can shoot in public without a helmet with a blacked out visor, and they might stop calling me "The Stig".

I have tried numerous tabs and have not found one that works for me as yet and so I use a glove. The various archery gloves that I have used have provided mixed results. Even with more mid ranged gloves with enclosed finger tips I have had problems, my latest glove has been a £25-£35 Bearpaw glove. This glove has the same problem as many others that I have tried and that is the low quality of machining of the finger tips, they are often misshapened and leads to an odd overhang that can catch the string on release. I now use army surplus German grey leather gloves that are unlined. Using 50# plus bows there is some string bite until you build up some calluses is a bit of a negative but if you buy the tightest fit, they do provide a good release (I shoot Mediterranean). As a trad field archer who shoots in a woodland range throughout the year they add some weather protection although they do get sweaty when shooting in high temperatures (25 centigrade and up). Another benefit is that they offer some protection should you be unlucky enough to have an arrow shatter in the bow (unlikely but still a possibility). It is one reason that I wear a full wrap leather bracer and a glove on my bow hand.

I had a few sets of leather work gloves so I took one and cut off the three center fingers and use that. I also cut slits along the top of the fingers for more flexibility. It works fine, though I should probably fashion a wrist lanyard out of para-cord or something.
@bloodlove934 жыл бұрын
Before my health got worse and I couldn't do archery anymore, I used to use a finger tip free weight lifting glove, the synthetic material came to the first knuckle in my fingers which is where I gripped the string so it worked perfectly for me. I also had one of those mechanical releases, I forget it's name but it wasn't one of those sticks attached to that wrist thing, it was something held in the fingers with a fully rotating clasp on it and used the thumb to press a small bar down to release it. It was quite comfortable to shoot with, I got it from cabelas.

I used a regular glove type (if there is such a thing) on my bow hand for ages shooting traditional (arrow off my bow hand) and it was fine. Eventually wore a hole but that was a couple of seasons in.

This is a fair question, especially if you anticipate doing any winter shooting. I've always wondered why no one has tried to make a combination winter/shooting glove for cold-weather archers. It's also worth noting that the parameters of this test might change if, say, someone was using a bow with a mechanical release.
@kmarchery4 жыл бұрын
That would be great . Though market would be small. I shoot in winter. Using mitts or gloves . Thumb draw . Have not been brave enough to risk my higher weight bows . Tried shooting fingers ,gloves are too thick . Thumb draw was ok . Release not as clean as I would like it . But in the context . Shooting outdoors in winter . As cold as -35 c with wind chill .on occasion . It was just fine . Gotta shoot . Even if I need snow shoes to fetch arrows . Cheers

I’ve never really shot with normal gloves, but there is a winter fingerless glove that fits under my regular archery glove on my right hand, I cut the thumb off that I use a lot. That one is for protecting the inside edge of my hand because the nock/string both keep slicing it open whenever I shoot thumb draw. It was really nasty and kept drawing blood, but now that seems to have fixed the problem. I also have a pair of bike gloves (not leather, it’s something else) that look like medium winter gloves. Sometimes I use them to draw it and test the draw strengths when I can’t be bothered getting the actual archery gloves out my bag (or worse still, the fear of forgetting to put them back in and being left with no glove at the archery).

Well i was dabbing into archery with a pvc bow and dowel duct tape arrows.. After 20 shots and a day later my fingers were swollen like boiled hot dogs.. I need to get some kind of glove or finger tabs.. I decided to get leather garden gloves i can cut up but i plan to buy an archery glove for $10 with good reviews.. I was thinkin about wrappin my tips in some electrical or duct tape but yah. I also seen a dude called backyardbowyer who used an I bolt trimmed up as a trigger release.. He also made a pvc finger release setup which looks pretty good.. I am now not worried bout string slap but boiled swollen sausage finger tips. Soo far I am happy with my pvc bow and cheap archery arrows from amazon. Havent got a chance to shoot em today but as a beginner its ok.. If it continue to get into the sport perhaps i would purchase a decent setuo but for now shooting into a cardboard box in my backyard it has proven to be quite entertaining. I know a lot of Aussies cannot firearms and i live in So California.. Ammo is expensive and ya cant shoot in your backyard with a firearm.. I am invest $40 into a hobbie that i may take it or leave so no sweat on me. I am really enjoying barebones instinct shooting but I like learning new adaptive techniques.. My next video watch is gona be how to cut up a gardening glove for archery haha. Cheers mate.. Learned a lot of basic fundamentals and ques on how to and what not to do videos.

I've taped the fingertips with insulating tape on a few occasions while using a 32 lbs flatbow. Worked better than a synthetic fabric shooting glove. But not as well as the leather shooting gloves I've used. Don't know if it's just me, but I've numbed my fingertips for 3 weeks from just one shooting session with bad shooting gloves

The only real issue with a full glove is if it changes your anchor point, thicker gloves change your shaft reference if you anchor on bone (which I do) and use the shaft to sight (again, which I do). Gardening gloves with some sports tape on shooting fingertips work great on cold winter days. Not too thick and warmer than bare hands.

I've used nomex/leather aviator gloves in one 3 our shooting session so far and they seem to work great. Good protection for your fingers and pretty good feel for the string. Also easier to get a good grip on the arrows when pulling them out of the target than with your bare hands. Didn't notice any wear on the gloves but then again it has only been one session. Seems like a viable option anyway and as a bonus you get to feel very tactical :).
