I was a rmarksmanship instructor for the Army. We taught soldiers that there is a natural breathing cycle: Inhale, exhale, pause. The pause was when you were most steady and that was when you should squeeze the trigger. Of course, sight alignment, sight picture, and a proper and consistent cheek-stock weld were all critical to hitting a distant target as well. I find the concepts of marksmanship are similar regardless of the platform. Do things the right way, consistently, and you’ll become a remarkable shot.

I absolutely should try all those 3 methods, great video Armin!

I like your method the best, as it feels the most natural and harmonious, the easiest to attain that serene mental state you talk about. In a way it’s a sort of active meditation where you can create a rhythm with your breathing and body movement. The other methods just seem to have too much body tension and mental clutter associated with perfecting the right way to breathe. Breathing is the most natural thing we do, and no overthinking is required. That’s why I like the Kyoto version, because it’s pretty much just like how you breathe while meditating, keeping you calm and relaxed.

As father said, '' all you have to do son is breath. Everything else requires a decision. '' stick with whats natural and you will do fine.

Thanks Armin, for uploading, I have been wondering about this subject for a while and trying to pin down what breathing technique works best. I will try this next time I shoot.

one of our traditional turkish archery instructors told us to shout a traditional shout (Ya Haq) when releasing (i guess) .. something that reminded me of the Japanese Kiai used in Aikido ... what are your thoughts?

Armin, does breathing your way eliminate the need for a woman to buy and wear a chest protector?
@ArminHirmer4 жыл бұрын
This issue is not related to breathing, more to correct posture

I would like to respectfully disagree with your comment at 1:09 that when shooting a firearm, pistol or rifle, that you do not have a structure to hold. If we define a shooting structure for the body as a specific and intentional method of holding the weapon to ensure accurate and consistent shot placement, then there is no difference between a bow, rifle, pistol are any other weapon. Granted, the shooting structure will differ, but the presence of a shooting structure for serious shooters or professionals will be there in some form. Breathing methods and structure may differ as well depending on the weapon, range to target and the shooting conditions. As always, thank you for sharing.

taking in the context of what he said before 1:09 i think what he meant was unlike a bow you dont need to exert a body-straining amount of strength to work a firearm, then exerting more to hold it in place(unless its a 50 pound cannon or has a 100 pound trigger with 1 meter of uptake ), the breathing part partly contributes to trigger control, not working up the strength to pull it
@ArminHirmer7 жыл бұрын
of course you have to hold your structure, but you don't have the compression of the bow
