I got interested in traditional archery for hunting. I wanted it to feel like a fair challange. After buying my first bow and shooting for a couple days I have bruises on my arm, a sore thumb, scratches on my bow hand, and a few successful hits thanks to you. Now to try to get to hitting things at 10 yards.

Great advice! I practice alone in my home so I've given very little thought to this issue. I am going to try and make your method a new habit. It makes perfect sense and seems very efficient.

Simply - works easy, fast and save … perfect for me as a beginner to start in this way. I am not able to do it as smooth as Armin but give me some years of practice 🤣

This will help a lot. I mainly need to know how to nock faster so that I can get through my arrows more quickly. That way I can spend more time pulling them out through the other end of my target made from a cardboard box filled with straw. ...Really, really thought I made it dense enough.

When I went on my introduction course at our archery course, we were specifically told to knock the arrow before we put it on the rest. I’m not sure why, I assume it has something to do with damaging the very flimsy “super rests” (the white plastic ones with really thin plastic holding the arrow in place). I assume this is standard procedure taught with beginners at uk archery clubs as all coaches are affiliated with the same governing body. Obviously this wouldn’t be an issue with horse or shelf shooting bows. I pretty quickly worked out to hold the arrow closer to the nock end, as having only one working eye my depth perception isn’t great, sometimes nocking the arrow is the hardest part for me, so doing it by feel rather than sight is a no brainier really. My horse bows I put against the bow before nocking, but my recurve that has a plastic rest I still nock before putting the arrow to the bow. Probably just out of habit at this point.

I gave a thumbs UP, because it's an excellent video on a silly mistake. I thought it was perfectly natural to knock the arrow holding it at the butt, as you properly demonstrate :) But it's very good of you to make the video for people who wouldn't have realized it. I hope you make more videos so I can give them a thumbs up, too! Always a pleasure ^^

It always kind of annoys me when people do that. There is no reason to do it that way. When I shoot with other people, even when shooting relaxed and for accuracy, I shoot about 2 or three times as many arrows as others in the same amount of time. I don’t think it's particularly dangerous, but it takes so much time those people could use practicing. I usually place my arrow on the left side of the bow, but I load through the string like the kassai speed shooting method. That way I don't have to get my bow out of the way or swing the arrow around as much.
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 6 жыл бұрын
I do that too, but when you have a newbie with one of my bows... they tend to scratch the bow with the tips :) thats why here the (even for the bow) safer way :)

@@ArminHirmer thanks, It didn't seem to make a difference for me but my groups are not 100%consistat yet. I'm shooting a black hunter, so off the shelf shooting. My nock is quite high so feathers don't seem to hit the shelf but I didn't know for sure. Thanks again 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I had no idea that people knock their arrows sideways or backwards. I agree that is pretty unsafe and counter productive.

On occasion at least, guilty as charged. Thanks, I have clearly slipped into a sloppy habit from too much solo archery. Several other things worth mention may be nock fit . Also, more than one person approaching a target to remove arrows at the same time.

There is definitely neither reason nor sense in doing so for olympic shooting. Couldn't imagine, how it should work. You have to put the arrow between the clicker and the riser, than nock in. I think, it is just a bad habbit, nothing else.

Shooting at a target club my personal pet hate is people tilting the bow horizontally to nock, there is no need to do this and you are getting in the way of other archers. I have lost count how many times I've been hit by people's bows - especialy English Long bows. It is also against the rules in Olympic style recurve for just this reason.
@Archer-op9cp
@Archer-op9cp 6 жыл бұрын
Obviously, you had never shoot a manchu bow. Also, there's a lot of horsebows you've canter the bow horizontally to nock the arrow, cause that it's the traditional way. Do not think that this faint-hearted shit, also called Olympic style, means something for archery schools lasting hundreds, even thousands of years
