Another great video! What I love about yours is that you are giving us so many of the “little things”, that other just take for granted.

Some great stuff here... all shooters have issues, but most don't have have the knowledge or self-awareness to analyze their performance and successfully identify them... it is great to see someone with your competitive experience talk through your process of identifying and troubleshooting. Congrats on a very respectable first official barebow outing. Glad to hear both you and Heather had fun, did well and, most importantly, are hungry for more!

Thanks for your candour, Jake, it's much appreciated, particularly for those of us with (much!) less experience... it certainly highlights that shooting under stress brings its own challenges and is arguably one of the hardest elements of mastering archery.

I'm really appreciative of this video. Can't be stressed enough having a defined repeatable shot process. When things start getting tough rely and follow the process; it's unbelievable how much this helps.

Kudos to you and your wife for shooting very credible scores. Heather has only been shooting for a few months?? Wow excellent job.

Good advice! My shot cycle is slightly different from yours (I shoot Olympic recurve) but I try to keep it consistent.

As always, your Videos are the best thing out there for Barebow / Recurve shooters. Something I don't see covered in your series is BowStrings. What materials, pre-made or make your own, Strand count etc. Thanks.

i have a question that i am curious of in international or world challenges...are anyone useing thumbdraw and opposite side riser windows in barebow? I am curious of that style shooting being used on the line in these compititions.

havent ever see anyone doing it. the advantages of thumbdraw and shooting on the right side of the bow is offset by modern centershot risers and arrowrest/button. thumbraw on the right side of the bow allowed to move the bow out of the way of the arrow while shooting and therefor the arrow dont need to bend around it and starts its path more stable and straight wich is exacly what you archive by using a centershot bow with arrow rest and button: it isolates the arrow from the bow. the difference is, asian style you have to learn and practice for years to reliably archive this while modern centershot risers do it on there own and you dont need to take care of it

with that score you would have won the indoor barebow state championship in my state of germany, and by far. 493 was the winners score. have to admit , my state in germany(rhineland /palatinate) is the weakest archerywise. german championship you would have taken the bronze medall for your age class and 6th of all barebow shooters. this numbers are taken from the 2019 results list as we have not had a competittion since february 2020. i hope it reopens again for the 21/22 indor season, for me to shoot my first statechampionship.

But she killed it. 448/600 for a two month old shooter essentially, I’d say fantastic!

Hey Jake, Thanks for the honest self-review. Can you please describe in detail how your "grip seer" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqbNh2umq86rrNk) works? I just don't understand how that works as a pseudo tension/draw-length/etc check. I have a lot of problems with a slow collapse on bare-bow. Any tricks I can use which might help with this would be great. It sounds like your seer thing might help, if I could only wrap my head around it and how it works.

Jake nerves, nerves, nerves, I feel like one big part of your shot cycle you forgot about was having fun, get it down to a routine, but KISS !! I'm sure you know this, or maybe you don't (kiss) is"keep it simple stupid", the first rule to most anything is relaxing, and having fun.

I shot field archery and many competitions back in the 70's using mu hunting compound at 65# did OK , Just decided to try to get back into archery shooting barebow! However I have notice with all the videos I have watched its been very complicated and nit picking! Good Form YES good technique YES and all that stuff, but over complicating all this I believe is causing problems! Just like any sport if you don't get back to basics and get rid of all the extraneous little things it might be doing more harm than good, Just saying!!!

For sure, I hear your point. However I have all the basics and the basics only get you so far. When you a struggling in any way shape or form, having a bow that works with you and not against you makes a massive difference. Using my grip sear allows me to comfortably aim and mitigate the issues with target panic. It counterintuitively simplifies the shot for me and my purposes. However integrating it seamlessly is where time is needed to be spent to further simplify it in the process.

Good luck searching for consistency with your finger nail clicker substitute. I bet it never works well enough to survive the mental stress of competition and many of the reasons should be apparent. Mainly that action has nothing to do with the mechanics of pulling the bow and expansion. Instead it is a completely separate intentional action not related to shooting the bow. I cannot even begin to try it since the edge on my riser is rounded.
@JakeKaminskiArchery3 жыл бұрын
Considering it’s far better then the negative affects of target panic, the positive FAR outweigh the negative. Barebow and expansion is relative and there is no need for real “expansion” due to no draw checks being allowed.

@@JakeKaminskiArchery I started archery many years ago shooting on occasional weekends with a bow that was way too heavy. I know about TP and how bad it can become. Two techniques have worked for me. First, draw and breakdown occasionally during practice. Second, a Joel Turner mantra. Mine is aim, pull, pull, release. Maybe you found a better way, but I bet you will struggle with it and then change again. Good luck. We are rooting for you.
