Archetype: Aggro

We are taking it back to basics, and talking about the most universal of cube archetypes; how do we support aggro. Let's burn our opponents to the ground, or go wide with tokens. All I know is that it time for the fun police.

Hey, I really liked the video. I think aggro is definitely essential. I'd be really interested in a deeper look into aggro, though. I thought listing the cards was a good start, but I often find that people effectively drop this list of cards into their cubes and then complain that aggro isn't being drafted. I think it's important to really think about what you want your aggressive decks to look like and build in some crossover from other decks. Often, *cough* MTGO cubes *cough* mono red is just on the rails drafting and players don't want to get locked into that sort of thing, so aggro suffers even though you "did everything right." Clearly that wasn't the focus of the video and I think what you covered it great. I'm just saying that I'd love to see a more in depth about ways to make aggro more diverse and cross-pollinate with other archetypes.

Another card I really like for aggro is Jinxed Choker. It plays like a sulfuric vortex, but it can also be played in mono white aggro.

Very good video man except i didnt see armageddon/ravages of war. They are the best aggro support for white really. Swords/path comes more relewant in aggro when u are facing t2 griselbrands.

Next do a video about enabling multicolor aggro decks! In most cubes it seems like there's no reason to go multicolor instead of mono-red or mono-white.

Good video! I recently drafted 4c aggro in my cube (had 7 nonbasics!) and it was insanely good. I knew my opponent would go for the big flashy kill so I drafted every 1 drop and Thalia I could get and the best white and red removal. The main kill in my deck was using Recruiter if the Guard and Imperial Recruiter to tutor Geist of Saint Traft and present a very resistant threat. In 4 games my opponent didn't do a single point of damage. I love drafting aggro when I can.

Hey I love your video I have watched it a couple of times for inspiration and to review the cards. Can I ask how many 2 drops, 3 drops, 4 drops ect. You think the cube should have?

Running a peasant cube. Have you done a video on pauper/peasant cubes? If not could you? Most of your videos have good advice in general. Supporting red black and white aggro. Green ramp blue control and subthemes: token counters and artifacts

I don't really have the time to do videos at the moment, though as you can see, I am still very reachable. I have toyed with making my own peasant cube, but between updating the Legacy Cube, Pauper, and Test cubes, and then maintaining our set cubes.... well let's say I am preoccupied. the thing i wanted to see more, is how you support it on other colors. One thing i do on mine is try to support aggressive archetypes on the other colors too (black aggro creatures, tempo creatures on blue, small creatures on green and elves, for exemple)

While red is trying to haste, and white relies on on-board disruption + going wide, black's supporting "theme" is hand disruption as well as good draw options and brilliant cheap removal

I agree to 90%. 1 disagreement: my cube has 1/2 of mentioned 1drops and boros is almost almost making finals. Can link it if someone is interested.

I don't really understand either. My cube is light on aggro 1-drops, but aggro wins a disproportionately high amount compared to other archetypes anyways.

@@januszo.2180 Could be. People like playing fancy midrange and combo cards, while the aggro player just curves into Tangle Wire and beats the shit out of them

What sorts of cards would you recommend for aggro in other colours? Specifically, I'm interested in green aggro as well as red and white.

What he said, but it you really want to force green aggro, cards like pelt collector and experiment one are decent one drops, along with cards like jungle lion, and Skarrgan Pit Skulk, maybe river boa, and the other boa, along with the merfolk branchwalker/jadelight ranger The problem is you can't support the green aggro deck, and mana dorks, because it is too many many one drops, and as a result green becomes schizophrenic. I also think that most of the green aggro creatures are sub par, and it makes the deck untenable when the other colors are playing the most optimal cards for their archetypes.

Green Aggro in my experience should play more like fast midrange, with play patterns more like dork into primo 3drops rather than 1-2-3 curves.

So the thing about green aggro is it needs a specially designed environment for it to exist. The math is the same in terms of number of 1 drops in a deck (7) and you have to adjust your cube to compensate. I have far more success with midrange. @@cubefortwo yeah I watched everythiny you put out so far. It makes sense. I was looking at the numbers and I had that fear that the green one's compete for different archetypes. I kinda want them to have more overlap in the future when they make more cards. Just did a quick scryfall for green one's with 2 or more power. Well only 16 have ever been printed!!! Most have a huge downside. Most recent was Hexdrinker. Green aggro might need more 1/1s with a bonus than these I'm seeing... I think the closest thing to ideal green agro is probably ends up a bogles like build.

@@cubefortwo thanks! So at 540 I am gonna need more than 7-8 to support aggro... Hmmmm might need to change it. I have 8 one drops in white and black and red. I have 14 two drops though in each. I thought 2 drops were more impactful overall. Might need to ask my aggro players if they got enough

Matthew Peterson so at 540 you are looking at 14-15 one drops for mono colored aggro. Don’t forget you can use cards like gingerbrute, to help also.
