Franklin Cover had to grow on me. I liked this Aidan guy right off the bat. He wasn't a stereotype of the "Golly Gee" white guy that all of the black comedians and black sitcoms made fun of all of the time. Franklin Cover most certainly was.

Who's the great actress playing elder Mrs Jefferson?
@rickames13 жыл бұрын
In 2009 my 'English' teacher used that word in class. She saw an expression on my face as I looked around. At the end of class she played it off as if she didn't know what the big deal was. When I confronted her, she acted as if that was a compliment. She is an Italian American & the thought of the 'stereotype' that she did was unprofessional. I asked her to view this clip; and I knew she wouldn't do it. I wanted her to view Mrs. Jefferson's thought's of being called that in the 70's.

One thing I LOVED about this ep was it showed the fact that racism and bigots come from all race of people not just whites.As a black man George was just as much a racist bigot as Archie was.In fact George's favorite color was green...as in money LOL.

If people never rise above the way they were "raised", we're in big trouble. Ignorance and stupidity is so common, that's why this show shows prejudice towards EVERY group of people. It's so RIDICULOUS because if we hate everyone who does that leave? As adults we have to make more informed decisions based on experiences and educated, which is much more important than our upbringing.

The personalities of George and Archie are only good for a TV show. People like Tom Willis, Lionel and Mike Stivic come off as smart and civilized. (well, Mike does most of the time)
@thoomolong12 жыл бұрын
Well, that is because Cover played the character for near a decade. I grew to like Cover's Willis. But this guy I liked because he probably would not have let Tom devolve into the "goofy white guy". The way Aidman played him, the writers probably would not have gone that way.
@StarfieldRailway11 жыл бұрын
George was a racist, not just mad at the individuals who stepped on him. He thought the races shouldn't mix, and that's a racist perspective. But good God that T.V. show was hilarious.

Lionel's would-be father-in-law is a typical liberal schmuck type, but with Lionel, his daughter and Meathead you can at least forgive for being young and idealistic. Ironically, the people you're "supposed" to dislike, Archie and George, come out looking the best of the lot, especially with that "cheers" scene at the end.

I'm kinda lost on the 'Mammy' thing. It must be a derogitory term to call a black mother. Why?
@BarekHalfhand10 жыл бұрын
From Wiki: "A mammy is a Southern United States archetype for a black woman who worked as a nanny, often for a white family nursing the family's children.[2] The word "mammie" is a variant on the word "mother", and means "mommy" in Dutch." I don't think Archie meant it to be unflattering in the context it was presented but it did make for some awkward classic comedy gold from some very gifted actors.
