For a line that hasn't seem trains since 1933, I'd still say this is in pretty good order. A testament to the craftsmanship back then.

I'm thinking it has more to do with the high quality dense wood of the old sleepers, and a dry climate which limits wood rot.

@5:00 the reason why the route detours through this sandy section is the sand was used with lime mortar to construct the railway. There is a lime mortar pit not far from Dos Cabezas. The wooden structure by Archie's car at the video start was the loading dock.
