If a team of rescuers could not safely retrieve a dead body, how can his neice blame those exhausted mountaineers who themselves were fighting for their own lives in horrific weather ?

It doesn't sound like he was "left to die" as the title puts it. He died. He wasn't alone. His body was left, as is the case in 99% of such incidents. That's very different to simply leaving behind a sick/injured person to die alone while others go on without them.

Mikhail died doing the very thing he love most and after conquering the summit. He was surrounded by people who shared his passion, had cared and respected him. They left his body in the most dignified way they could possibly manage. He was laid to rest on Victory Peak, among the mountains nearest to God and Heaven. What more does his niece and family want?

As a mountaineer and team leader I know the risks at altitude and in the wilderness. Mikhail would have been aware of the same. Its a chance we take every time we go to the mountains or an overland expedition. We are a strange breed and many of us have already made peace with the fact that we might perish out there but that is also part of the alure and hidden thrill to climbing. When my time comes I hope it is in the mountains or a wild place also. The thought of dying in bed or a hospital is hideous to me. Don't be sad for mountaineers who meet their end at altitude, and cant be retrieved, their spirit took them there so they could be with the mountain always instead of stuck in a box in a hole or burnt and scattered. The mountain can take us at any time. It decides not you....... R.I.P. Mikhail. 🙏

I think the title needs to be changed, it's untrue and feels like clickbait - he was not left to die, they did CPR at 7,000 meters after running for his glove, his companions were selfless and brave. Also, shame on the niece for blaming other climbers for not continuing to risk their lives for a body. Such a lack of emotional intelligence, lack of empathy. I wish people like her would change, become more empathetic, they cause hurt to those around them.

I used to spend time in the winter in the Rockies above tree line. I always had spare gloves and hat! I don’t understand why these experienced climbers didn’t? The other thing I have always wondered about is battery warmers in their gloves and boots. I used to have battery socks and gloves back in the 70’s climbing the Rockies. It’s easy to bring lots of spare batteries. Plus use them intermittently. Any thoughts?

@@randystrain7512 I can't be sure as I don't climb myself (I have severe chronic pain) but from a quick Google search, keeping batteries & phones above freezing (0C) is prioritised even now (to stop the devices from failing), & with respect to 'no spare gloves', I'd suspect that's kind-of Alpine Style thinking, take as few items as possible, be quick, elegant lines etc (though, admittedly, with a large group, you'd think someone would have spare gloves; maybe they did but didn't think of it in the moment). Tbh, Mikhail just seems wholly unprepared & frankly, a non-self-aware danger for the other climbers, who seemed to all complete the training before hand, save for him, cause he 'did things his own way...'. Pretty arrogant, guys like him are often seen as robust & reliable but that's just because their personality doesn't allow them to really open up to learn or try something new & difficult, so their strong, perhaps overbearing personalities (esp. for other people that are more introverted or shy) translate into 'He can do his own thing/rules don't apply' cause you don't want the stress of getting yelled at by a fully grown man (not saying he did this, just that people are mostly passive when it comes to others risk-taking, even if it endangers their own health/lives, like a co-pilot refusing to speak up when a captain is responding improperly to a stall - social anxiety & interpersonal problems often play a role in sudden deaths).

Why can’t his neice learn mountain climbing and get his body of the mountain herself instead of just twiddling her thumbs at home and whining other mountaineers to risk their life for a person they don’t even know 🤨

It sounds like he died from a pulmonary embolism, not a heart attack.

He didn't say heart attack. A heart attack is a myocardial infarction. He said cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest means a stopped heart.

I would never try to climb anything where there is only a few days to do so! And just how do they know exactly which days these are??! 😂🤣

Sounds like he knew he wasnt in good enough shape to make the climb. Too bad he didnt tell his family to leave his body in the mountains if it came to that, like a lot of mountineers do. (Or maybe he did, and they didnt listen?)
