I have a '95 YJ. Had been having issues with intermittent high idle depending on ambient temperature outside. Would start in the mid 80's at about 1100-1200 RPM, up to 1800 RPM once it hit the mid 90's and up. Another mechanic finally figured out that the computer wasn't relearning the IAC Valve after it was replaced (it was bad). He had to use a computer to take control of the IAC and adjust it correctly because the computer wouldn't. Had the problem for 10 years. SO happy it's fixed- FINALLY!

Changing sensors after a period of time is wise-preventative maitenance. I had a vehicle with 150k, changed each sensor as cash allowed and most of them made subtle differences in engine operation. Taken together it makes a nice improvement. I pulled apart my TPS (the original) and the wires inside had a lot of white corrosion on them. Given that its job is to send a signal back to the computer to manage overall operation its important to have a clean signal. Corrosion will affect resistance and in turn send a weaker signal back to the computer. Changing the TPS made the single largest sensor improvement as far as "seat of the pants" go.

Either that or keep some de-greaser on hand and keep it clean. The magnet gets gunked up and dirty, throwing the timing way out and you may not be able to fire it up - It happened to me. Hey thanks for this video! I ordered all of these (which btw make sure you do some shopping around before you go to one store and just buy them all you can easily shave $50 bucks off the price that way). Anyways, I'm having sputtering, surging, terrible gas smell, code 52, and around 3k rpm the jeep starts to lug out as if you have a limiter or are pumping the gas petal up and down. Hopefully these will help it out and make it run good again. I'll let you know!
@Archifx8 жыл бұрын
Skippy A these parts should help you. Sounds like the ecm is trying to over compensate by adding loads of fuel for the miscalculation of air / spark / timing. All of these things are what the above mentioned sensors are trying to achieve. These sensors are trying to create a harmony with the engine. The gas smell is obviously the engine running rich and the sensors are what tell the ecm to make the engine run rich. Clean your throttle body real good when you replace your sensors and make sure to come back and let us know if it helped.
@noble2kat1428 жыл бұрын
Alright well here's my follow up. Overall, the Jeep is running better. At stop lights the engine would want to stall when picking back up in first gear and that made for some pretty embarrassing moments haha. So the surging has been taken care of and it warms up from cold a lot better now without sputtering and such. However, I've run a good gas tank through it and code 52, gas smell and the odd issue of not wanting to go past 3k rpm persist. I'm at my wits end with this issue. I'm suspecting that the Catalytic converter might be clogged and therefore causing build up in the down pipe where the O2 sensor is and that is making the Jeep read rich. Does that make sense?
@noble2kat1428 жыл бұрын
I've also done some modifications to the Jeep that could also be a cause of the issue. I have a 2.5L 4cy and in order to give it a bit more "Umph" I swapped out the 2.5L throttle body for a 4.0L throttle body and added 19lbs injectors to it. My friend did the same mod with no ill effects though so i'm skeptical.

Anybody know what parts become compatible, if for example I have a 91 YJ but a 97 2.5 (TJ). Say for instance a starter. Am I okay getting a tj starter for a tj engine? Stuff like that. Is there a point where it may not matter. It could be compatible with a yj? This jeep seems to be TJ in its engine, transmission, and transfer case. Or changing out the heater core. Can that be a YJ heater core instead of aTJ heater core? I'm guessing sensors all around and muffler sensor better be TJ related? It makes it so much fun asking for parts at the parts store.

just depends on the year in which you bought or are buying and which parts, their quality can vary, as can any company's, due to moving manufacturing to/or back from china, specs changing, getting a bad reputation and trying to rebuild it..... a lot of info on who's parts are bad is old and they are now good again, or vice-versa for example, do (2017) get an odyssey battery, but don't get the others that used to be good
