Being part of *Shinji Mikami* franchise *Resident Evil 3 remake* as *Carlos Oliveira's* face model truly was an honor. I remember playing Resident Evil 2 on playstation when the game was released... I was amazed by this new concept called "survival horror." A whole new generation of game was labeled as "survival horror" right after Resident Evil. I truly felt in love with the franchise. I remember that soon as I finished the game I got *Resident Evil 1* and later *Resident Evil 3.* What an amazing epoch... It truly was a fascinating experience playing the games and now day being part of the franchise is just so surrealistic. But here I am *Benson Mokhtar* aka Carlos Oliveira. Also RE4 and Vanquish as well! In fact, I think all three of those games are the trilogy of 3rd person action games, sharing the same camera view but each has a unique unconventional style of gameplay (RE4 for tactical tank controls, God Hand for hard-to-master beat-em-up gameplay, and Vanquish encourages speed with bullet time for subverting the cover-shooter gameplay). I would like Shinji Mikami to direct another unique action game again. I'm not sold on Ghostwire yet, but hopefully that after the Microsoft acquisition, maybe Mikami now would feel less pressured to make a game that please the mainstream market and would rather make something that he wants to share with the world. God Hand may not sold very well, but I'm glad that it was made because it stands out differently from other action games up to this day.

15:08 He's right. RE4 was definitely his peak. It's not my personal favorite game, but I have no problem with people calling it one the best video games of all time. If you had to break a game down into different gameplay components and look at it as if it were a science, say there was a college class teaching game design, RE4 is probably the gold standard. I replay it regularly and every single time I'm amazed at how that core loop of gameplay holds up, how perfectly designed it is. From a game design perspective, it's just uncanny how amazingly well crafted everything is. The encounter design, the level design, the pacing, the emphasis on positioning, the in-game economy with the merchant, the upgrading system, boss fights, enemy variety, sound design, animations, context sensitive actions, enemy hit reactions, replayability, etc. The amount of pure design they included in the game is incredible. Obviously there are games that're going to be better in certain aspects, but I really find it difficult to think of anything as tight and cohesive and expertly crafted as RE4. It's a pinnacle.

You’re right. Interestingly, I remember loving RE1 so much (late 90s), and dreaming of being a games designer, I began creating concept drawings for a potential sequel. What came to mind was a cult of robed Satanists who lived in some Satanic temple in the woods. When RE4 came out, my dream came true - Los Illuminados monks, satanic temple in the woods... and then some!

RE4 is overrated as hell, hate that stupid, soulless game for so many reasons.

God, what a content. Glad to find the channel, I mean, I don't even know how I found it(?). Anyway, Shinji Mikami is doubtlessly a talented director! Thanks for the subtitles (obrigado ao pessoal do SubTube!), finally I can recommend videos with another language to my brazilian friends!

completely agree with his point on Code Veronica. that game is criminally underrated, it's quality was way higher than any of the previous games. it should've been a mainline entry instead of a spin off

To the developers' minds, it was pretty much the third proper game in the series. Initially, the third game was something entirely different, which Capcom shitcanned when the PS2 was announced because it wouldn't be done in time for the PS2's launch. Not wanting fans to wait around for too long for the next PS game, they then looked around at some of their side projects, saw Nemesis, and said, "Yeah, you'll do," and gave it a 3 to make it consistent with the other PS titles. But in terms of story, Code Veronica was considered to be a true, actual sequel.

I will be forever in debt to him because of something he made that is called Resident Evil. One of the only few games that interests me these days.
