Lol. Truth. My husband is 53 and it's just now paying off. He now has his own firm, employees, and plenty of work, as well as opportunity to design what he likes, but this has only come about after years of NOT actually designing much of anything. Or, he would design something only to never see it actually get built due to various common issues with owners. If you want to do it, have dedication and patience.

yes but why the hustle ? did we expect to be architects the year we enter the university? build the classical buildings without any financial support ? people must work hard to achieve what they want in life, the journey was never meant to be easy, the dude here is telling us to change our careers because it's hard for him, maybe he's making millions from designing buildings, while we listen to his words and shatter our dreams@@awesomebydefault3877

@@ahmetkerematakur4247ecause you will be executing the design sketches of your Associate Director, and he will override your design decisions. When you get promoted, you will be managing people and the project timeline, and you won't have time to design. You will delegate the actual design work to other people. You give a design sketch and conceptual idea, and your guys will have to execute them. Your client also dictates a lot of things. He can easily say, "No... can we have ANOTHER OPTION?" This is the most dreaded thing you will hear from a client after working 3 days without sleep on the design. And you have to start from scratch again. To me, the best path is: be a superstar in design and be very good at it. Then be super duper patient and learn MANAGEMENT and BUSINESS. When you get promoted, drop the design mindset, and go full businessman mindset. Be a Creative Director type person where you don't do hands-on design anymore. You must also accept that there will be a lot of people who will be better at design than you. But you are the guy who knows how to make the BUSINESS work. You have to shift your mindset to business and client relationship. Time management, budgeting, etc. Learn how to run a company. You will make more money like that. Architects should also learn how Franchises like McDonald's and GAP build and run their franchise. There is this thing called a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in management. It is how these Franchises build and manage their companies. It is a simple guidebook to standardize operations, so time is not wasted. It makes the company run like clockwork. As you move up, you do less and less design, and more and more business management. It is the only way to make a lot of money. You CAN'T have your cake and eat it. At least I don't know how anyone can do hands-on design and still make a lot of money. I don't know anyone who is able to do it. People who are promoted to higher positions as bosses, mostly DELEGATE work.

1. It’s a 4 year degree then comes the certification which takes a few more years while you work. 2. Not as good as doctor or lawyer but it’s a good living. After you earn you license, the sky is the limit if you are good at getting clients. 3. Like every other worthwhile profession, its called paying your dues. Edit: It is a 4-year degree in my state. Some states, it’s 5 years. Contact your state’s professions office to verify.

1. Depends, in Europe you can’t do shit with a bachelor. Master is practically a must and that is gonna take at least 5 years. 2. it’s different depending on where u live n work but architected is on average one of the worst paying jobs for the time spend on education. It has to be done for passion. 3. eh very few professionals require you to grind out worst of the bunch assiagnemnts for multiples years after you’ve already got ur license.

I have always said this to anyone who has just got their bachelors in architecture and wants to get a masters. Dont get an M.A in architecture. Instead get an M.Sc in energy in buildings. Its nothing like architecture. Imagine civil and mechanical engineering had a love child. Thats what it is. When getting an msc in energy in buildings you study thermodynamics, heat tranfer, and fluid mechanics. Your taught a variety of different subjects from construction technology to construction materials to building facilities and building systems ,Hvac systems to building physics to even urban planing there is this class on the curriculum called energy management in cities and it teaches you the basics of traffic and transportation and what urban canyons are and how heat and air transfers is, and what itself in different street canyons is like and etc.... the softwares you use are not even architecture based they are either softwares used by mechanical or chemical engineers. Like ansys. Transys and its plugin fluent. Or simpler ones like designbuilder or any other energyplus powered softwares. Your salary will be two times that of an architect. You have a wide range of choices from being a building energy modeler to a hvac systems engineer or if you wish for a more laid back job you can work as a building energy auditor. Or an energy consultant. You get to work in both private and public sectors. You will work along with mechanical engineers. Infact you will be doing exactly what they do. (When it comes to facilities in buildings). most of the time your employers are going to be from the energy sector. Either petroleum based or tech or government regulatory agencies. Wonderfull decision i made infact ive forgotten nearly everything i was taught about architecture during my bachelor years. Never looked back since.

If you study medicine, you will have to clean up an operating room, wash instruments, disinfect and store them, which is a job 10 times more boring than washing dishes by hand, you may have to rescue a drunk who smells of urine, hemorrhoidectomy or lower endoscopy for 10 people a day, working 60 hours per week and night shifts will keep you always absent from home, you must often face of the pains and the deaths of patients and the stress makes you down

@@hazelhang4615 It's very dependant on the country. I hear 7/7 working days in places like India. Japan is also terrible. EU is decent, a lot of worker protection. I had fair employers in that aspect (before I quit it altogether).

3 reasons not to listen to this guy 1: it requires different mental skills that you may be much more proficient in than what is required to be a doctor or lawyer 2: you must spend plenty of time in all jobs to be able to be trusted with more difficult tasks (constructing your own designs or working on early stages of a project) 3: even if you dont earn as much money as a doctor or lawyer, you still earn enough money to have a very good life, and most people would rather have a job they like and have a good amount of money than a job they dislike and a lot of money

the thought that this man already had a license as an architect, as an architect instead of discouraging others to study architecture, maybe giving them a piece of advice and encouraging them to move forward as an architect. I have the thought that you are discouraging future architectures probably because you don't want other or newly professional architectures to come ahead of you.

@@ArchitectRussell they know its a lot of work but they are aware of the fact that these creative people have tendency to work harder and longer hours in their perticular field of interest. They find joy and meaning in that work so in many cases, even when they want to earn more money, they would never switch to other jobs. So the industries set the standsrds for salaries and incentives very low, specially for youngest people who r mad passionate.
