I couldn't be happier when I saw that there's another episode of Architect Redesigns. Not only were you able to fix everything that's awkward in this building, you also made every single inch of the space usable and functional. Kudos to you Daniel. Looking forward to seeing more of your redesigns. Yup, we'll be patiently waiting because I know it will all be worth it 👌

I drive by this home in Seattle almost every day and I can't say I've ever noticed it! Brilliant space planning and furniture layout. Your redesign would honestly be a dream home for me in Seattle- larger than most apartment's but without all the wasteful extras of most American single family homes.

I actually watched a bit of the "original" video introducing this house... after skipping the entire talk about the neighbourhood and not the house for which I came for, I was super disappointed with what I saw. I was so unintrigued by the design for such a small space that I actually stopped watching after just the kitchen xD Watching your video was so satisfying. It felt like I've stepped on a bad-design-nail and you finally removed it for me and now the wound can heal xD

Wow. The downstairs is super nice living during the rush hour and in summer. Sleeping upstairs after things cool down and traffic quiets itself is perfect. I would be more likely to be in the upper garden during the golden hour and on weekends with the main entrance open.

Hmm yeah if there's a heatwave it might be nice. But day to day 🤔? I personally don't like that kitchen and lounge are below, with limited lighting, but also no view outside. Even though in his animation the room is decently sized, that leads to claustrophobia. And was there a laundry upstairs now? Kinda suspect, because the main bedroom also doesn't really have much storage (at least not for two people). He build a window seat near the only window with a view - but I wish it had become a study with a sofa instead. Making the driveway into a garden/terrace might be nice - but now where do you park your car?

Love this idea and the execution. Was really interesting. The outdoor patio area and extension of the indoors outdoors is the best move. Makes the entire property and home more functional. Only change I would make is a built in run of banquette seating along the entire (or at least most of) the wall opposite the kitchen. So from the stair, TV, storage, etc unit all the way to the glazing to the patio (or something like that). Adds more storage and allows more space with the dining room table being able to move closer to the wall. More of these, please 💚
@anaalves3658

That is a very good point 😊 . But some people don't like banquets, it's not the easiest to get in and out of, but a really good idea 😊

Awesome redesign! If I was living there the only change I might want is more kitchen working space. So maybe a breakfast bar or kitchen island that could have seating on one side instead of the table… just because I like to cook and need more counter space. Otherwise, the positioning of everything makes so much more sense than it’s current design ❤

All the changes you've made seem great, though I think I would flip the orientation of your proposed staircase, to have the stairs lead staright into the kitchen without needing to pass through the living room/tele area. This would further open up the space in the kitchen/patio area and slightly increase the privacy of the downstairs bedroom space.

3:20 is it really that big of a deal to not have a laundry room on the same floor? For something you'll need to use only a couple of times a week, i think its very much doable. My current laundryroom is shared and downstairs the apartment complex. I always have to take multiple outside stairs to get there, and so far, the amount of times that happened to be in the midst of a terrible hailstorm were very limited. Off course having it on the same level or like inside the house would be ideal, but its really not the end of the world
@NilZed1

The house was built in 1925. Well into the age of cars and literal centuries since anyone middle class (and thus neighborhood is that or better) housed animals in the same building as themselves. If she didn’t own a small enough car to fit already she likely wouldn’t have built a garage at all. Originally the lower floor probably had no bedrooms down there. Just garage, laundry and storage.
