5:40 for some reason it took me 4 attempts at listening to realise he said 'or so you'd think'... I misheard it as 'also you stink', which obviously I knew wasn't right but I couldn't hear anything but that

You forgot to mention all the wasted space above the drawer to account for the hinge. Living with a hoarder I cringe at that wasted space.

Not everyone lives in Canada, London or New York. Cold, dull, gray interiors are a God send for people who live in Geographical Zones where it’s scorching hot and super bright for 8-9 months of the year.

I like the applya5d couch best, but not the chair as I grew up with the 1950s originals which finally got chucked out in 2017 . I like the low backed poang.

My simple workaround is to design completely and utterly without attending to current design trends. I design with styles that I like from days long passed.

Daniel, can you please give more ideas for living in the tiny spaces currently being built in England at the moment? Some flats don’t even have a functioning kitchen. I like to entertain, so I need storage and seating! I like to craft and that needs storage. I like to cook, but I only have space for one 1200 food cupboard. I have storage wracks in the garage to store bubble wrapped cooking pots kept clean in big plastic boxes. Why don’t our kitchen cupboards go to the ceiling and have 3 or 4 shelves instead of the 1000 with one shelf, like they have in Scandinavia? …and thank you for the dry wall filler. Leaving massive holes in drywalls has put me off using the walls.

You cover some different and pertinent design issues here. However, I have inherited vertical blinds in our two house moves (in Oz); and have loved them 🙂. Yes, they do make a bit of noise if you have a breeze flowing through; but you can easily adjust the light really accurately in the direction you want, - and they don't trap the dirt. Particularly good on large windows and patio doors. Thanks for your thoughts. We are keen to try the above counter drainer option!

Baseboard heaters? Well the building was built with them, and thats how they are heated. So what do you want a person to do, rip them out and figure out another way when thats all you have for heat? You obviously have never lived in a -40 degree Celsius climate

Ventilation for sure, but you also need to have make up air to replace that air taken out. Otherwise that exhaust more or less stalls because there isn't enough air to replace the air taken out. So big is good, but you need to have the same amount of air to replace it, otherwise it turns out to be just as bad as a to small CFM fan

Murphy beds strike me as a great guest bed idea but not so good as your regular bed. The last thing I want to do at bed time is any sort of physical exertion which would be necessary to get furniture out of the way and then pull down the bed.

*VIDEO IDEA BELOW* Hi Daniel, I want to share some feedback with you. How two of the tips were presented rubbed me the wrong way. 1. Vertical space - You said people don’t use vertical space often enough, predominantly because they are afraid of ruining the walls. That’s only one reason. You didn’t account for people’s height, disabilities, injuries, etc, and it came off as abilist. 2. Hoarding - please be careful with this topic! You are an architect, not a psychologist. While the exact cause of hoarding is still under investigation, it is often a response to severe trauma. Having so much space in your home that you have the illusion of not needing to organize can definitely cause clutter, but it’s unlikely to cause a clinical hoarding disorder. I loved the story you shared about giving your daughter a cart to own her toys. You mentioned empathy and trying to work around her needs and not force yours onto her. So I don’t think you had malicious intent when taking about vertical space and hoarding. But please be careful with your words as to not alienate your subscribers with disabilities and/or mental health disorders. Do you have any advice on how to take advantage of vertical space when you are short or have mobility issues? This could make a good video topic. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk btw

Well done. Looks fabulous. That bed looks like its not comfortable. A wall bed without a cabinet is very reasonable then you can put the sofa on wheels to move it away. I covered my free standing wall bed with a rug. The cupboard usually around it would not fit due to sloped ceiling

This video offers great insights for home design, renovation, or when moving to a new space. However, it's unpractical to apply if you can't redo your whole space/home.

Cabinet maker here, and I like this list alot. Those pullouts inside cabinet doors seem to really take hold of people's minds in a way that causes mental lockdown. Do they see it on one of those home shows on TV where it permanently burns into the brain? I don't even say anything anymore, its not worth the hassle. Also how are those inset ceiling lights simultaneously too bright and yet not enough light. It seems possible someone could create one with soft, wide dispersion but I haven't seen one yet. They make me squint and simultaneously struggle for light. Push latches are bothersome as you demonstrate and prone to malfunction and to that category of troublesome gagety hardware, I would add soft close door hinges. They feel great when new but they wear out twice as fast because of internal stress, the hinge is both pushing and pulling at the same time. With heavy use the doors will sag and scrape.

I don't get why he didn't use the bed as a sofa...now it looks likes tehre two sofas. If he would just use the bed he would have anonther lovely free area behind Lilla. Or put both of the desks back on back and use the other areas as bedroom/living room. :/
