I would have likes to know the energy efficiency of the home. How well does it keep the temps as well as how much it costs to heat & cool.

Since it's all pure concrete, without insulation, I can imagine it gets extremely cold in the winter. If you want to build something like this, that's completely fine, but you're going to have to insulate every room, so if you want energy efficiency, you can't have concrete walls in every room, you're going to have to coat the concrete walls in each room with insulating foam (spray-on) and then cover that insulation with wood. Either that, or buy lots of blankets and firewood for the winter months ;)

Martin B It has insulated interior walls. And I'm sure there is insulation in places like the roof and possibly even mixed within the concrete.

1timby He needs insulation on the whole outside perimeter of the house, roof (looked like he's got tar paper rt now) and siding, $20-30k. Use the mass of the building to your advantage, right now, those continuous floor to roof spaces, living in Vermont (-0 °c 4months)....impossible to keep warm, must be like living in a cave.

Interesting concepts but I don't like many of the "features" of the home such as the see though things. The concrete also looks a little unfinished, like they didn't vibrate enough when they poured. Those gaps will let moisture in and the steel will rust and the concrete will start spalling a lot sooner than if it was sealed

I like the house overall but it does need some touching up here and there. You can plainly see so many instances where the form was not vibrated letting the concrete cure around big air bubbles. But... he has a big concrete house and I don't.

Oh really? Im an American and in Ukraine. EVERY house here is built with brick, cinder blocks or concrete. Lasts forever. Havent seen one wood built house yet. I always said I will never build another house, but after being in Ukraine I changed my mind. Next one is concrete.

i come from south america, coastal region, on the ring of fire. every house is brick and concrete, including mine. i detest the way america fast tracks all this cookie cutter homes. having said that i am judging his hodgepodge of features. i think he was inspired by Alvar Aalto experimental brick house (that he doesnt live in).

jose pajares I live in the USA and I want a concrete home, but in the USA a concrete home is much more expensive than a wood frame home and wood frame homes in the USA are already ridiculously expensive. Unlike South America, the USA has very strict building codes. A concrete home in the USA is typically superior to a concrete home in South America, but that superiority comes at a great cost. The only other option is for a homeowner to build his own concrete home. That is possible, but not many people have the time and energy. The main reason more people in the USA do not have concrete homes is cost. It might be possible to build a concrete home in South America for $20,000 US or less, but in the USA it might cost $300,000 US.
