Lyrics
I wanna bother God
I wanna feel the ground beneath my feet
But I’ve got a smile full of broken teeth
Goodbye
All the doves have flown away
I must’ve lost myself, lost myself, lost myself
I know it’s not enough
Why does defeat always taste so bittersweet
I just wanna live and die in peace
The flower that never blossoms is quickly forgotten
It must be gold if it’s glistening
I must’ve lost myself, lost myself, lost myself
Goodbye
All the doves have flown away
I must’ve lost myself, lost myself, lost myself
Fly high
‘Cause the ravens are here to stay
I must’ve lost myself, lost myself, lost myself in a cloud of
Dead butterflies
Epitaph Records is an artist-first indie label founded in Los Angeles by Bad Religion guitarist, Brett Gurewitz. Early releases from a variety of punk heavyweights helped launch the 90s punk explosion. Along the way, Epitaph has grown and evolved creatively while sticking to its mission of helping real artists make great recordings on their own terms.

I feel a bit silly leaving a comment but, by the off chance Dan may see this, I just wanted to say thank you. This songs really touched me in a special way. In December 2020 I lost my older sister to a murder suicide and it’s been really hard to cope with it and why it even happened. This song is really beautiful and speaks to me. I’m so sorry for your loss Dan, I know it’s been a few years now but, this song brings me to tears and you’ve moved me, Thank you.

I hope you are feeling better now, I can't say I know how you felt or still feel, because I have never personally experienced that, but I am an empath feel for you. That should never happen to anyone no matter what and it's so sad. I hope you are experiencing life better now and the grief has lifted. Dead Butterflies is truly one of the best songs I've ever heard and I want to do more research on what it's about and what the lyrics mean.. And I'm going to listen to the song on repeat and deeply listen to the lyrics to hear them to know what they mean. I hope you have a good day or night.

I've been waiting for this since hearing it live. This song is always going to be very special to me. For some reason, I had a feeling to wait to watch the concert later in the evening on that Saturday and I'm glad I ended up making that decision. My sister passed in a car accident while I was watching the concert, and this song played right around the time the incident happened. The way Sam screams GOOODBYEE gets me every fucking time, it feels as though he's helping me say my goodbyes. As it turns out, my sister also has some paper butterflies hanging in her room that are always entirely still until I sit in her room for awhile, which always makes me think back to that Saturday night and this song's lyrics. I don't think it was coincidence I decided to wait to watch the concert, and I am forever grateful for how much your music has helped me grief.

Totally understand your POV. If it helps for context, they said in an interview with Kerrang that Tom always wanted to make an industrial-style record, so the new sound is a nod to that + trying to evolve. @@michaelmarkel434 this isnt really industrial at all though. Its more Radio Rock/Butt Rock than industrial. @michaelmarkel434

@@RCmetal11 agreed on this song. I was referring more to Animals (that riff would feel right at home with Rammstein) and what they said about the album as a whole in Kerrang. We'll see how the rest of it ends up. There's no denying that it's a departure from the previous formula though, and you're probably right. I like what I've heard so far, but I know it's polarizing. I think the big tell was the live stream. To me, the new songs fit into the setlist nicely and didn't feel drastically out of place. It was a good display of their range, and I think it was an attempt to show everyone they are more than the formula that they do so well. So to your point, dead butterflies isn't industrial, but maybe the album as a whole will have that feel.

I usually don't leave sweeping statements like this, but this new direction that Architects are heading towards is the epitome of GREAT music. Their orchestrations, use of electronics and refrain from over-technicality alongside their obvious love for their craft are something that I feel can't be replicated. I sincerely thought metalcore / djent / something-core was, perhaps running out of fresh ideas, but Architects is maturing like a fine wine. This is sincerely on an Anathema (Great band) level of passion and tasteful melancholy, and I, for one am embracing this change. Do I love their "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" era? Absolutely. Do I think it's the peak of their musicality? Absolutely not, and so far their later offerings have proven that. I am confident they have done Tom proud.
