Mies van der rohe is my all time hero in architecture. he is sophisticated theoretically, aesthetically and technically. I quit my job as an architect because I do not want to project manage shopping malls and residential towers. but I still love reading true 'architecture'. I will design and build my thesis house like Farnsworth house for myself in Scotland someday.

Could you make a video how work between architects and civil engineers looks like?
@30by405 жыл бұрын
do you mean coordination?
@jan-weber5 жыл бұрын
I mean more like the communication between the architect and the engineer. For example, you have done all your planing work and afterwards you go to a guy who can calculate all the statics. He finds something which is not good and tells you that and you have to change it. and so on... :)
@30by405 жыл бұрын
I see...that's what I would call 'coordination'...it happens throughout the design process so we never have the scenario you describe where something doesn't work...I'll see what I can do for a vid later this spring...
@jan-weber5 жыл бұрын
ah ok, you are doing it this way. looking forward for the video in spring.
@levlad125 жыл бұрын
@@jan-weber During the design process you as an architect have to "guess" where the columns would be and what structural system the building will use , most architects through out the world learn construction systems , statics , and strength of materials , some universities also go deeper into reinforced concrete structures , wood and steel , you can't be completely dull to how the physics of the building are calculated otherwise you'll have a hard time doing anything beside a cube . The engineer than takes your drawing and calculates the loads and does structural analysis , since most architecture firms have engineers employed usually the communication is just a desk away from you , and he just nods with his head or gives you a thumbs up . If you are an architecture student keep in mind that during your carrier in most cases you'll build residential buildings. Good Luck!

That's a good to know resource for historical reference and study. I try to keep an eye out for really old architectural books to keep on hand for reference sources. Found a 1950 third addition Architectural Graphic Standards book in a used bookstore back in the 80's. And I still have my 1970 sixth edition Architectural Graphic Standards that I bought new in the mid 70's. Lost many old architecture books that my father inherited from his architect uncle after a major move in the 80's. Sad loss. In addition to your video, I would also look for inspiration from objects you'll see around you through out your day and travels to get an idea for a design theme, or concept that would give an interesting/unique overall appearance to tie it all together as a whole as apposed to a collection of architectural elements that comes out more like a tossed salad than a coherent whole. I started doing that in the 70's, and the designs I've come up with doing that where typically the ones I liked most, and most satisfying. I've noticed once I got a design theme/concept first, the rest of the design process is so much faster because you don't feel like you're aimlessly stabbing in the dark with disconnected architectural elements/features, but now there's a design free flow to exploit the overall design concept/theme.

You are a blessed architect, and as a secondary school student, I'm limited to things like budget, materials, and lots of other things. I can't get out into the real world of architecture until I'm older and am being held back from my true potential. You're videos inspire me so much and I can't wait for more of them everyday. They give me something to think about, something to doodle, something to make every day and I thank you for that opportunity. Of course, I can't make anything like a cabin like yours yet, but when I'm older, my dream is to be a thriving designer/architect. If there are any tips, books, tools or anything you can help me with to get me started in this amazing world of design, then please can you list them down here. Also is there anything you can do to help me with my pursuing dream of being an architect? Thanks you so much for all the work you've done!

Hi, any advice or opinion on how a concrete with red brick aggregate would look? For an extension on a red brick building? I have made a mini sample of this in the university workshop and it looks good on a small scale however I am unsure on how it would look on a larger scale, I am unable to find any precedent online? Would this suggest it would not look good architecturally? Thanks.
