Did this with my 3rd -6th graders and it was a big hit! We did the messy traditional paper mache with flour and water because I could not find the craft paper in town and had not ordered it until later. However, the students enjoyed experiencing the messy mache. To save on cost since we are a small private school, we used free card board and it was a little hard to cut so next time I will go with poster board. We will start decorating them this week and I am excited to see how they will personalize their letters. The Blick Art plans and KZbins are great!!!

This looks soooo much easier than what I did in school. My art teacher had us cut styrofoam into a letter we made that would be stable enough to stand on its own. Then we had to put lots of glue in a plastic bin, cut strips of newspaper, and then dunk the newspaper into the glue and cover the letter. Then after the all that was done and dried, we had to paint the letter. It was sooo messy and took a lot of hard time and work.

@Michelle Layardi You could use traditional papier mache materials such as flour and water, or white glue and water and newspaper. Bear in mind, that this is a little messier so you'll want to have a good drop cloth or something underneath your project area.

Excellent! Just what I've been looking for. Saves buying ready-made letters for decorating, and you can make them what size and shape you like. Thanks for the creative inspiration! I'm definitely faving this one"

Yes - you can if you cut them down to be shorter. Make sure they are even and level.

For the anteque one paint it bronze/gold first then paint it black and dont let it dry after you put black over it, wipe it off it gives the same effect but easier.

Yes, you could use a cereal box in place of the chipboard, but it may be thinner and less sturdy meaning your results could be slightly different. You will also have a smaller design than the example shown in this video. If you have more questions, our product information experts can assist you - you can email them at: info @ dickblick . com. Thanks

Since we haven't tried that process before it is difficult to know the results, but we recommend experimenting to find new materials and ways making this project your own!

Because masking tape is not water activated it will not work in the same way. You may want to experiment thoroughly before substituting the tape to make sure it works.

Thanks for sharing a great technique! Do you think a foil technique could be used instead of paint?
@Blick_Art9 жыл бұрын
Rosemary Chee Hi Rosemary! Yes, you could use foil to cover the letter or shape, however, any tooling should be done prior to applying it to the form. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

What if I use paper mâché after I apply masking tape? I have done many paper mâché sculPtures and I always use,asking tape before putting paper mâché on it. It sticks perfectly.

Amazing I love the idea.... :) but lil help plz... what if I want to add light bulbs to light it up, how do I do that wid these letters? Plz suggest? :)
@Blick_Art10 жыл бұрын
Hello! One suggestion would be to put a string of Christmas lights or led lights (that don't get hot) inside the framework of the letters. If you want to create letters with real bulbs, you will want to use something more sturdy such as plywood and use low wattage bulbs. If you would like additional assistance, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information team at 1-800-933-2542

@Blick_Art8 жыл бұрын
+Lexus Zyken On the letter “D”, she is applying www.dickblick.com/items/00711-1006/ to create the texture. We also list gesso on the lesson plan if you want to paint it the letter and need a white surface to work from. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

Como faço para pegar os moldes das letras grande ?
@Blick_Art10 жыл бұрын

Can i ask where you get your large letters at??
@Blick_Art9 жыл бұрын
Jojo They are either drawn by hand onto chip board and cut out, copied from a computer print-out, or if you want them to be larger an opaque projector can be used to trace larger letters onto the chipboard. But all of them were made by hand, not purchased. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
