Architecture in Conversation: A Conversation with Adam Caruso

The Architecture in Conversation event series address the current debates in architecture planning and its social functions. Our guest speakers will explore contemporary debates in architecture and social movements linked to both our shows. Through different approaches, both exhibitions pose questions about the current role of architecture in neoliberal cities, as well as the role of spatial practices in imagining new sociabilities.
Adam Caruso, one of the architects of our building, is back to present his reflections ten years on. Caruso will also be talking about Trix & Robert Haussmann’s work and his design for the exhibition space.
Adam Caruso and Peter St John established their practice in 1990. The practice rose to prominence after winning an international competition for the New Art Gallery in Walsall in 1995. The practice’s engagement with the art world has been notable for the creation of museum and gallery environments that enjoy the confidence of curators and artists. Cultural projects include the Millbank Project at Tate Britain, Nottingham Contemporary, Damien Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery, and Gagosian Galleries in London, Paris, Rome and Hong Kong. Adam Caruso has been Professor of Architecture and Construction at the ETH Zurich since 2011. Caruso St John’s Newport Street Gallery was awarded the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2017.
