What about architect engineers like Calatrava or Frank Lloyd Wright or Felix Candela? What about the fact that architects study 6 years, whilst structural engineers 4 years? What about the fact that the architectural course still has a significant engineering component, whilst the engineering course is almost empty of other disciplines? What about the fact that many architectural courses come with legal rights as an engineer to engineer any building up to four stories high? And the allowance to become a fully qualified engineer with one year extra study, whilst if the engineer wishes to become an architect he is placed in first year. ( not to mention the fact that the engineers drawings are children's drawings regardless of the maths behind them ) What about the multi disciplinary knowledge of the architect, who is well positioned to take into consideration all the concerns of other specialists and bring the building together. What about the percentage of architects who own their own practice or get a profit share in the business verses the percentage of engineers. I know an architect who in his third year of work, out of university had a combined salary and profit share which was about four to five times that of a full engineering salary, and as I suggested, for architects getting a profit share or starting your own business is not exceptional.

@@user-cq9re6jn5c Architect Engineers have a deep interest in developing forms which stem from engineering. This allows you to increase your spans and cantilevers, reduce the thickness of the structural components and produce altogether very aesthetic buildings. If you look at the buildings of those I mentioned, you will see the type of architecture which results from these principles. Until very recently there was no division in disciplines. The architect & engineer was one person. Other disciplines like quantity surveying and building science, also stem from architecture. Due to the fields growing in scope it became more impractical to handle all simultaneously. Today Architects are the only ones who maintain all disciplines, because the 'Mastery' of bringing the disciplines together harmoniously is extremely important in producing a building which functions well and is pleasing to look at. With computers available to reduce the workload, the architect is well positioned to become something closer to the historic architect who fulfilled all roles in one person, which has some benefit in achieving harmony of thought, design and final product.

This is bs stereotyps from an engineer pov. You could also balance that with the bs from an architect pov. Architect : orchestra director, coordinating all the aspects of the design, not only for the client, but also for the users and the context, either rural or urban, from construction to decades of use and maintenance, and to potentially its endlife. And that's not talking about what "architectural design" means, which is way more complex than just aesthetics. Engineer : juggler trying its best to optimize the time he has, the ressources and tools he has, to satisfy codes and regulations through conceptual simplified models, which constrain a multifactorial design over decades for some shortcuts that helps him not to have to modify too much his excel sheets over a few weeks.

The work of Sunray Kelley is far superior to anything that is portrayed here, both aesthetically, in engineering terms of the strength of the structure, and practicality, His houses are not only beautiful, they work well and are enjoyable to live in. Meanwhile, these structures cost their own capital worth every five years to heat and cool, they psychologically encourage mental illness and psychosocial dysfunction, will never be renovated and in 50 years will be transformed into massive, crime ridden, vertical slums before literally collapsing into a pile of rubble, under their own weight!
