This is not a song. This is a journey into the deepest layers of human pain. From underneath the initial softly flowing sorrow, the roar of pain grows stronger and stronger, until the agony becomes unbearable and turns into paralysed resignation. Into this motionless, near-death state, the voice of hope finally enters, promising relief and a modicum of comfort. Perhaps it is the hope of a final exit. The piano's final drawn-out, echoing note is reminiscent of the long beep of the ECG machine signalling cardiac arrest. Every time you go that deep, you die a little. Whoever composed this music knows this state of mind perfectly well and has captured it in this masterpiece with the utmost precision and sensitivity. I have never come across anything like it.

I love how one line just makes us understand a lot about the song. He keeps repeating "turn my head" and it doesn't seem to make much sense at first. Then after a long silence, he says "off". And with that word we understand what he means and the name of the song. Fucking amazing

I still remember when I first heard this song. I entered my ex-girlfriend's house, she was sitting there playing some music on her phone as she'd usually do. This song came on almost immediately as I entered the house and sat beside her. I fell in love with the song almost instantly. I played it to myself when alone in my apartment a million times. A few months later we broke up and I could not bear to play it for a year, it reminded me too much of her and the break-up, and just the first piano note at the start was enough to break me.

One of the best songs about depression and mental suffering. I love how the music help convey the lyrics’ message : the music gets louder and louder, noisier and noisier, just like the song’s protagonist perceives his environment and its signals (the lights) up to the point where he just wants to turn it all off in order to find peace.

Archive played a big role in shaping my music taste as a teenager with a lot on her mind. At some point I stopped listening to them as much as I used to back then. I saw them live a couple of days ago and deliberately did not refresh my memory before the performance. I cried my heart out. It brought me back to my younger self and it felt like a big warm hug that she desperately needed and never got. Forever grateful for music.

If someone asks you what is a feeling of heartbreak ,guilt or any other feeling which causes emotional pain then show him this song. Repeating notes , tension slowly grows just as thoughts which constantly say to you the same thing. You try to fight them off. Sounds slightly change as you try to defend yourself. They try to do it in diffrent ways. You still defend yourself. The internal battle that takes place inside your mind is reaching its apogee. After that there is a quieter moment. You've won with yourself. Later the same notes come back but you're preapared for them. You replace them with other thoughts which aren't agresive and repetetive. They no longer influence your life but you still remember them and you always will. You can see that in the end of the song when repeating notes from the begining come back.

I'm listening to the Lights everyday three times a day, this is the final archive masterpiece as it says in the song "Forever". what a beautiful combination of instruments OMG. the lyrics are the most true story of everybody's life that everyone(even for a once in a life) has experienced by him/herself. It starts with a shocking psychedelia force of complaints about the pain filling inside of every action of the life which it ends to a silent "Turn my head" but not "Turn my head off" and it tries to help the complex to be saved by the middle silence of song. then it starts to release the pain of the complex to the end and the most noticing point here is that the final "Hurt"(the most painful thing[Hurt] that it's crying about which is the most important because it come at the end) is "The hurt of missing". I think the The hurt of missing is the most unhealable pain in the world "Forever" too as the composer has written in lyrics. So far this was a sad song far now but why everyone in the comments loves it as hell? Because it's a therapy for the most common pain of "The hurt of missing" which is leading to "The hurt is killing me" situation. after all complaints and the final "Turn it off forever" the song get a beautiful strong magical shape which starts a filling inside you like hope and optimism. as much the first part was deep into darkness this part is flying right to the lights in the counter way. so the whole message of the song track is: "We all know that we are struggling with any kind of pain that everyone can imagine, but that's it, so say Yes, be "ever blind" and Go On." It hurts to feel It hurts to hear It hurts to face it It hurts to hide It hurts to touch It hurts to wake up It hurts to remember It hurts to hold on Turn my head The hurt's relentless The hurt of emptiness The hurt of wanting The hurt of going on The hurt of missing The hurt is killing me Turn my head Off Forever Turn it off Forever Off forever Turn it off forever Ever blind

Obviously the best way to listen to this is actually if you can get it on vinyl I’ll see you there is a lot of CDs and then you will experience the full clarity of the piece of music, Is this mainly due to the upload this piece of music has been done it needs to be at least 24 bits 32 bits. A great piece of music, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.

“Be silent and listen: have you recognized your madness and do you admit it? Have you noticed that all your foundations are completely mired in madness? Do you not want to recognize your madness and welcome it in a friendly manner? You wanted to accept everything. So accept madness too. Let the light of your madness shine, and it will suddenly dawn on you. Madness is not to be despised and not to be feared, but instead you should give it life...If you want to find paths, you should also not spurn madness, since it makes up such a great part of your nature...Be glad that you can recognize it, for you will thus avoid becoming its victim. Madness is a special form of the spirit and clings to all teachings and philosophies, but even more to daily life, since life itself is full of craziness and at bottom utterly illogical. Man strives toward reason only so that he can make rules for himself. Life itself has no rules. That is its mystery and its unknown law. What you call knowledge is an attempt to impose something comprehensible on life.” C.G. Jung

I used to listen to this song a lot when i was 16-17. Didn't really understand it, just felt right and beautiful. I'm turning 20 in a few months. A dude I'm talking to right now sent me this a few days ago and it felt like getting back in touch with the teenage angst me, full of so much passion, love and anger. Anxiety and depression made me forget most of those years, even the music I used to like, books I've read, movies I've watched... as a defense mechanism from triggers, I guess, but this didn't trigger any negative emotions. The only thing making me sad is that I lost so much of myself in process of trying to cope with my own brain.

I have to say goodbye to a person that I deeply love and this song so perfectly describes every bit of pain I feel - not only with lyrics but with the music itself. The pain of lost chances and having to move on again, even though every second it's like there's a part of you dying, along with the parts when you try to numb it as much as you can or to tell yourself that everything's gonna be alright... But there's always another wave of pain waiting there to flood you all over again, and even when you're trying to hold on as tight as you can, there's always this one bit that can make you feel like you're drowning and it's like there's just no end to this...

What an epic masterpiece, thanks for uploading. I can't stop listening again and again. It is comlex, changing, growing, and when you think it can't get any better, this angelic vocals set in, with its perfect smooth climax at 13:15 and a cool finale. I can't describe my feelings while listening to this, other than "eargasm"

J aime Archive. Les instants épices de 15 - 16 mon surtout. Et ça évolue beaucoup d un album à l' autre. Trop méconnu du grand public.

Amazing. This song allows me to forget life for a few minutes, or at the very least stop caring enough that I can relax somewhat. My deepest gratitude for uploading this awesome piece of music!
