i keep getting an error once i have too make nested sequences, after i close the file and try to open it again, it gives me an error that the sequence has a problem presets etc. and that file will never open again, i have to create a new premiere file and importe everything to this new file, but even so after ii close this new one i get the error again, have you seen this error ?
@VideoRevealed
@VideoRevealed 8 жыл бұрын
I have not seen that error with those circumstances. Something is "not right" in the master Project and you need to divide things up to find the culprit. Try omitting the Audio Conform files and Preview Files if you haven't tried that. They may be corrupt. Next, try archiving just half of the Sequences and see if that works. Then try the other half. Create a new Project and import each half of the Sequences and see if either one causes a problem. How many Nested Sequences are we talking about here?
@BellaBeastTv
@BellaBeastTv 8 жыл бұрын
ya ive tried importing just one sequence, but anything i importe to the new file from the old i get an error, the error to be exact is "This project contained a sequence that coul d not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec coule be associated with this sequence type" thank you for you quick response.

Next step is to try to "refresh" Premiere Pro. I hope you have your Preferences backed up? Quit Premiere Pro. Hold down Opt+Shift (Mac) Alt+Shift (Win) immediately after launching Premiere Pro. See if that allows you to open the Project. If that doesn't work, I have a script you can run that has fixed absolutely every issue I've ever had.

Hello Colin, I have learned using PP mostly by watching your videos. I truly appreciate your efforts. Here is my question: I have followed the instructions in this video and successfully archived my project to an external drive. How do I purge the hard drive on my computer of all the files that are related to this one particular project? Thanks and best regards from Istanbul, Turkey.
@VideoRevealed

Hopefully you've organized all your media in one location and if so, just delete the folder. If you've placed everything in multiple locations, then you need to manually find and delete them. Premiere Pro does not manage files on your computer. You can Right-click on a clip in Premiere Pro and locate where it is, but you'd have to do that for each clip. This tutorial might help for future projects: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5WuZqOBeZpopNE

Also massively love your work. My archive though is BIGGER than the original. Fewer files but the folder takes up more space. What seems to be happening is that if I use multiple subclips from a single source video the archive makes a duplicate of the source video for each clip...Do you know why this might be and how I can eliminate this? The folder looks like this: File__2022-08-08-13-01-09-338-000.mpgBDMV/Stream/File__2022-08-08-13-01-09-338-000 and then they are sequentially numbered File__2022-08-08-13-01-09-338-000_001 (but same source)

Hi there Colin. Love your vids! Very informative! I hope you have time for this. I do have a problem when I proceed as you describe, transcoding media ect. After transcoding and coping, I eject the drives where the original files are kept and. Now, on opening the project file -stored after coping and transcoding the media files - Premiere tells me "Missing media for these clips", and these are all the clips used in the project.". And yes, I did save the project after coping and transcoding the files to my back up drive. Any ideas? Ive done it six times now. Cloud version. Latest update. I could go in the folder and manually select file by file, but this should not be necessary, right?. As I said, hope you have time :-) Or any one else reading this :-). Thanx again

So rather than exporting my project, which would mean to send the finished video to KZbin or to wherever I export to. Using project manager will allow me to copy everything (graphics, audio, bins, video, sequences) to an external and open it again to edit later if I choose. Is that correct? That way I can also make copies of all of my hard work. I’m trying to figure out the best way to save all my projects to my external and make copies after I have finished editing. Even though the project is done, I may want to come back and re edit.
@VideoRevealed
@VideoRevealed 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is exactly how you'd save Projects in case you need to open them later.
@mitch.chapman
@mitch.chapman 6 жыл бұрын
VideoRevealed can I archive them by copying projects and moving them to a new location OR consolidating and transcoding? Basically, is one better than the other for personal use? Some of the terminology is a bit over my head. I just want to create a project, save to my external, and be able to come back and edit one day.
@VideoRevealed
@VideoRevealed 6 жыл бұрын
Copying everything will allow you to make changes to your edit that aren't in the Timeline. So if you end a Project with clips in the Project panel that you didn't use, then copy and keep everything if you ever think you'll use those clips in a new edit someday. (takes more disk space). If you only want the media you used, then don't copy unused media and trim the clips to only the portion you used. Make sense?

First, thank you for taking the time to have such detailed replies. I know this must seem elementary, but it's quite a lot to process when I'm just starting out. Just to make sure i'm getting this process...(I apologize if this is lengthy) (1) If I create folders, like you showed in your other video (video, audio, graphics etc) on my external, add clips or audio to the folders on my external and import these to PPro, this will create bins and I will create a new project called "my first project" as an example. This "project file" will then save to my external where the folders were first located. (2) I can then add additional graphics, clips, or audio to the folders on my external and import those to premiere if I need more files. From there I add anything from my "bins" to my timeline, create different sequences and start editing. Will these edits update/save to my "project file" in my external or will it create a new one? (3) After I am happy with my final project I can export to youtube (which is my goal). If I want to save this project with all it's edits, color grading, transitions etc, I should "collect files and copy to a new location." I can save all clips or only save my used clips (making the file smaller). I will call this finalized project "my first project_1" Can this "new location" be back to my external? Then can I also copy "my first project_1" to send to an additional external? Can I delete my original file structure "my first project" that I originally created to import, since the one I just collected to new location "my first project_1" will likely be the most updated and most comprehensive? (4) If I want to open this again with PPro to edit, I can simply drag everything from my external into PPro and start editing again. Hopefully this made sense. I really appreciate your time and videos. I keep watching them over and over.

(1) - Yes, all good. (2) - All changes are saved to the same Project. Think of it like working in Microsoft Word; you work on a document and save. You close it. You open it on another day and begin to add more words. You save and all the changes are saved to the same document. This tutorial is useful for safeguarding versions: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYnUdXt5bL1naZI (3) The goal is to archive whatever you personally think is valuable. All clips or trimmed clips. (only you can make that call). Once you have an archive, and you've opened that archive to check that everything is still okay, you move it to an archive location and delete the copy on the external drive*. (4) If there is a need to work on that Project again, you move it to your external drive and open the Project from there. Premiere Pro will link back all the media and you're good to go. It wouldn't hurt for you to just back everything for the next 6 months as you become used to this workflow. Eventually you'll start to understand what you need and what you don't. Also, you'll find that you mind not even know if you need come media so you'll save that, just in case. * I am paranoid about losing stuff. Really, really important stuff gets backed up in 3 locations. I end up finding it much later after it's finished and I can choose to delete that extra stuff or not. I have some very important clips in the recording studio with family and friends recording my music album and I guarantee I have the whole thing copied in 5 locations. I keep finding stuff all over. But that's a small price to pay as the alternative is losing clips that mean the world to me. Feel free to be as detailed as you want in your questions. It shows you care and you're willing to learn. Two great characteristics of someone ready to take on something BIG!

@@VideoRevealed From what I have experienced it works for the "first level" of nested sequence, but if you also have nested sequence inside of your nested sequence, then it's not taken in account.. It's something that I use a lot and I was really annoyed by this limitation ! Now I use the plugin PlumePack and it's working way better: it keeps a data structure for your files, all level of nested sequence are taken into account, with the premium version you can lossless trim instead of transcoding.
