Archivum Musicum
Description: "La Carmagnole" is the title of a French song created and made popular during the French Revolution, accompanied by a wild dance of the same name that may have also been brought into France by the Piedmontese. It was first sung in August 1792 and was successively added to during the revolutionary events of 1830, 1848, 1863-64, and 1882-83. The authors are not known. The title refers to the short jacket worn by working-class militant sans-culottes, adopted from the Piedmontese peasant costume named for the town of Carmagnola.
It sarcastically sings of the triumphs over the Queen of France, Marie Antoinette (Madame Veto), King Louis XVI (Monsieur Veto), and the French monarchists in general.

Wait this is a song us French learn at school (not anymore since 15 years I guess). This song is popular in France even if we just remenber the "let's dance the Carmagnole".

this song was also in the waterloo movie. After Napoleon arrives from Elba and visits the palace, the people sing it while carrying him.

It’s a style of jacket that was worn by the working classes in Paris (ie the revolutionary patriotes described in the song). The name originally comes from a town in Piedmont where the jacket was first popularised.

@@carlogambacurta548 Its not my opinion, it's objective fact. A Rebellion of 250 years on and off founded on human sacrifice, beheadings and genocide with 4 failed Republics doesn't replace a 800 year old Kingdom. It simply ends it's beauty for a while. This song celebrates bloodbath and parading chopped heads around a screaming crowd. Barbaric.
