just saw them open for whitechapel recently and they are some of the funniest guys I’ve seen. they opened a wall of death just to make the pit play twister and they kept calling ‘whitechapel’ ‘whitecastle’. they are one of the most technical and fast bands you’ll hear. As for headless guitars and basses: They are around since the eighties, when guitar and bass builders experimented with new concepts. They just turn around the principle of bridge and headstock tuners. The bridge there contains the tuners and the strings are simply clamped where the head normally is. This actually has 2 advantages: 1. You can turn the tuners with the right hand without having to reach over to a headstock at the other end of the instrument. 2. Their tuning is a bit more stable, at least with every headless instrument I ever played. Only guitars with the Evertune bridges have more stable tunings, due to a very nifty patented mechanic that ensures constant tuning with springs. Btw., you are not far from becoming a headbanging metalhead! I'm impressed how much you enjoyed this piece of music. Death metal/deathcore is not easy to understand, generally. And Archspire is quite on the more advance end of the spectrum. You actually develop a good taste even in this genre. I am really a bit surprised how fast you went forward on this journey. Please continue to be this open-minded, all the best and have a great weekend! ❤

The main advantage of a headless guitar or bass besides the tuning staying in longer is that you don't have to worry about breaking it while on tour. Headstocks are easy targets for damage. Hell I nearly cracked my headstock in the comfort of my own home lol

Well done, Rachel. Brave. Now, I think you should listen to vocalist Dickie Allen in Infant Annihilator's "Blasphemian". The technically best that I know in the genre of deathcore/death metal. He is state of the art of what guttural vocals have to offer, huge range (in opposite of what you saw here). They are quite controversial, so you are better off with the Southpark apocalypse kind of video to this song, than with lyrics videos, I guess. They don't take themselves too seriously, so you shouldn't, too. But musically, they are top notch. Or better: Over the top.

It's so cool to see you dabble in the more extreme side of music! Beyond Creation is another similar style (tech death), French Canadian band I would love to see you react to. Songs like "Earthborn Evolution" or "Afterlife" both have awesome music videos! As far as Deathcore goes (Slaughter to Prevail, Lorna Shore), I think you would really enjoy the band, Whitechapel. Take a dive into the lyrical genius known as Phil Bozeman. The music video for "When A Demon Defiles A Witch", or even the live video for "Saw Is The Law" are both great places to start with them.

I listen to them all the time. I feel the exact same as you in this video. Every. Single. Time. I mean I’ve seen them three times, I get “lessons” from dean lamb. Have A Lot of their merch. And it still amazes me. Edit: headless guitars are convenient, physically. They also sound different (tone-wise) from guitars with tuning heads (at least in my opinion). They are usually built differently also to accommodate support in the neck, among other things. Edit 2: you should listen to Humanity’s Last Breath. Or Darko. Thall 🤘🏻

That headless guitar is probably a Kiesel Vader (I didn't look at the video too much). Headless guitars mainly exist as a way to minimise weight and to bring the guitar closer to your body, so to speak. They tend to make more ergonomic sense. I have 2 headless basses and one headless guitar and I will never buy anything else. You need to hold them to feel the difference. For me personally, it's also an aesthetic thing but at least a couple years ago, most people still hated headless guitars in terms of looks. They're mainly a jazz thing from the... I wanna say 80s?... but have seen more widespread popularity in recent years with their use in progressive metal and adjacent genres.

The headless guitar is the same concept of a normal guitar but instead of putting the strings from the bridge to the head you do it backward, from the neck this time and the tuning pieces are in the bridge.
